They were banned for using a derogatory term towards transgender individuals.

That isn't really a connection that most people would just intuitively draw on their own. Chances are very high that the posters had no intention of being derogatory or insulting anyone when posting their joke pictures.

Oh well. :/

This is the best trap in gaming

roughly 98.9% chance at least one player will fall for his bullshit repeatedly

And its side-splittingly hilarious every single time

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
What game is this and what is the trap?

The game is Life is Strange

and the situation is
that the girl with the blue hair actually calls the guy to extort and blackmail him for money but the guy ends up shooting her

The other key thing to note about Mimics is that if you wait a a few seconds a mimic chest will actually lift the top some to reveal it's eyes. It physically moves the top up to peek out at you. If the chest doesn't move it's a real chest. This is true at least in Bloodborne. I never tested in other dark/demon souls games. #simpleasthat

and another thing I learned.

Was reminded by the Until Dawn thread of a trap in that game which is pretty cool in story context.
Pretty early on, while exploring an abandoned asylum, you stumble across a dismembered arm sticking out of a table made to do a continuous waving motion through a mechanism. If you choose to touch the arm, it pulls down and activates a bear trap. At that point in the game it is unclear what exactly the trap was for and who set it. Later in the game, when the characters are informed by a hunter that they are being hunted by the mythical Wendigo, it becomes clear that this trap was set by the Wendigo Hunter with the intent of capturing a Wendigo as they are cannibalistic and only see motion. The asylum was used by the hunter as his base and a prison for the Wendigo he already captured.

Also, thanks mods. <3

oh man i LOVED that trap

Until Dawn is the best

No worries! I edited my post for greater clarity, but the idea is the same. It's off topic, but it's unlikely those who were banned intended harm/perceived transgender individuals in a negative manner - 'trap' is mistakenly used as an endearing term by many, but the real concern is in the definition of the word and how it's misused/perpetuates stigma and stereotype against transgender people. 'Trap' suggests someone who has intent to deceive.
Thanks for the info.
As an anime fan I have only ever seen it used as a description of a cute/girly looking boy. Even on well respected anime blogs. It was the first thing to come to my mind when I saw the thread title.
Would be good if the OP clarified/warned the users in his post.

I didn't notice people mentioning Bridget, but the issue remains - again, 'trap' implies nefarious intent. Technicalities don't really matter, let's just not use the term.
As you said, the banned users probably didn't mean any harm, so I hope that they only got banned for a few days.

They knew damned well what they were posting.

Carelessly jumping into the path of an arrow trap has caused more deaths in Spelunky than I care to remember.

Most traditional roguelikes feature all manner of traps as well. Traps that lock you in place, release poison gas, explore, knock you into a wall, remove your equipment, make you drop items, drop you down to lower dungeon floors, and all other manner of nefarious things. A lot of them will let you use the traps to your advantage against the enemies too if you're smart enough.

Wait, you can whip the arrows?

Wait, there are no mimics in Bloodborne.

Anybody who has spent more than an hour on the internet knows that "trap" is a deragotry term used to describe transgendered individuals. It's inappropriate and I don't know why you're defending the banned posters who forgot they weren't on 4chan.

On topic, my favorite is probably the entire beginning of RE4. That counts, right? Village felt like one giant trap.

While probably not the trap op intended , anyone whose been caught up in a good Akuma/Ibuki/Alex player's vortex in Street Fighter 4 can tell you if you fall into that trap it doesn't matter what kind of life lead you have , if you can't get out it quickly , not only are you likely to lose the round you can also use up your resources if you're mashing.

Reading through this thread and seeing that Bish is apparently no longer a mod (or even around?) is shocking. Did something happen? Are we respecting privacy here and not talking about it? Was there an announcement? Because, wow.

I don't want to derail the topic but I feel like this the more pressing topic at hand now.

Another one that came to mind:

In Link's Awakening, you can steal from a shop. As a player, you probably feel empowered about having done so. Maybe you return to the shop again to see if the shopkeeper says something new, or maybe you go back in to steal again, or maybe you just go back into the store to use it as a shop. But when you go back, the shopkeeper annihilates you with a magic beam. You're then branded as "THIEF" for the rest of the game, overwriting whatever your character name was for the duration of the game. This remains one of my favorite death traps because chances of an uninitiated player anticipating this kind of reaction are pretty much zero.

Apologies you are right Bloodborne didn't have mimics. I played DS3 right after so I got the two confused at times haha. Bloodborne was amazing though.

There aren't even hidden walls outside of the chalice dungeons, IIRC. Probably fucked with a lot of series players.

The word "trap" is used to infer that someone who is transgender or cross-dressing is intentionally deceiving straight men. Because if you find yourself attracted to them you've fallen for their "trap" and you should be ashamed/disgusted with yourself. It is by nature derogatory and it should not thrown around like some sort of joke. It's gross.
