Should the Scorpio to be Bundled with Elite Controller?

I've been thinking about the Scorpio today and trying to decide whether or not I should upgrade, keeping the Switch expenditure firmly in mind. Part of me really wants to because 'new and shiny' but the sensible me asks 'why?'. This got me thinking, what (outside of games) would get me to bite. I'd need something to sweeten the deal. There's one thing that I know I want but won't spend £120 on and that's the Elite controller.

If MS are marketing the Scorpio as the 'enthusiasts' pro console, why wouldn't they bundle in an elite controller? It would make me bite (assuming a reasonable price). They bundled one with a regular Xbox recently which made it (or the Xbox, depending how you look at it) crazy cheap. I hope they do the same with Scorpio as standard.

Because the system is already going to be extremely expensive in comparison to the competition. They don't want to add another $100 on top.

They'd be crazy to do that, the elite controller is almost $200

I guess it's possible they make multiple SKUs and pack it in with one but that would be like 500-600

I think you just answered the question yourself. Microsoft needs the Scorpio to be competitive in the marketplace, not a pie-in-the-sky "get a 2nd job to afford" console. If they're putting the beefy hardware in Scorpio that they're claiming, they'll be hard pressed to keep it at a reasonable MSRP without adding in an expensive controller.

If they come with one version. I dont think so. Of they do more versions with bigger HDD etc. One version can have the elite controller also.

I highly doubt it. That's a premium product and by putting it in every box, you eliminate that exclusivity of being a "higher end" product. Plus it would raise the price by quite a bit.

The elite controller is a high margin thing to soak the very hardcore Xbox fan base. There's a chance that the Scorpio could be the same, with 399 core bundles being hard to come by.

In that case there probably would be one with an elite controller and it wouldn't be cheap.

399$ basic upgrade. Aimed for people that have controllers and that they just want to upgrade their Xbox one. (No controller included)

499$ premium. Come with Xbox elite controller and maybe a game or 2

I go for basic, I already have an elite controller plus 3 regular controllers.

I think it would bump up what's already going to be a high price-point, and would eliminate a potential up-sell from owners.

News headlines ending with a question mark almost always do it because it would be untrue without the question mark.

Edit: Good edit to the thread title.

Already have elite controller so I'll gladly take scorpio bundle with no controller at $350-370

Would it be stupid to have a no controller bundle so they can compete with ps4 pro price next fall?

Truthfully I think this is a good question. This Xbox is going to be a premium console.
The elite controller should be included. It be a great opportunity for Xbox to say most powerful console with the greatest controller of all time. It makes sense to include it. I wonder how much it even cost to make the elite. Microsoft has to make it look like its a good value getting the scorpion. This is a great way to start

It depends on the other hardware that's in it. If it's got another weak ass Jaguar CPU in it then it may be cheap enough for them to do a bundle with an elite controller.

If it's using Zen? No way. I can't see it retailing for less than $450 - $499 if it's got a Zen based SoC in there, add another $150 on there (imagining they'll cut the price of the elite if bundled) - $600 - $650? May as well buy a gaming PC - dead in the water at that price.

There's no chance of that happening, at least for the base version.
I don't know, controllers and peripherals are usually sold at a really high markup, meaning MS does have some flexibility.

I honestly hadn't thought of this, but I could see MS going this route for the Scorpio, if they feel the need to price it at $499. They bundle in an elite controller and make it seem like a good deal, even though the controller doesn't cost THAT much more to include over the regular one.

All of a sudden it goes from a premium $499 console to a premium $499 console that includes a premium $150 controller.

Edit: MS put a brand new Xbox One (1TB Hybrid drive), with an Elite controller on sale at their store for $230 at one point already. So yeah, I don't think the elite controller actually costs them much to make or include, the standard price for it is just a premium markup they can get away with.

Here's another unfounded possibility, what if the Scorpio does not end up being much more powerful, but takes a PSPro approach but they bundle a Pro controller to justify the higher price.

Well beaten by a few second by the above.

Bring it than bundle Microssoft !!!!

I already have too many Xbox One controllers... They should offer a Scorpio SKU with no controller for $50 cheaper than the standard Scorpio SKU.

They will probably need to get the price as low as they can get. Phil already warned that this is going to be a premium product and expensive due to the hardware in the system. They don't really need a FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS moment here.

8TF, 399$.
No elite controller is needed.

No. I'd actually like to see MS go with a basic SKU of just the console and no accessories'.

I have four Xbox One controllers already that are going to work on the new box. Get that price as low as possible!

It will be expensive enough as it is.

Like others have said though, the Elite controller markup must be pretty damn high. If they recouped development costs in the first couple of years and it becomes cheaper to manufacture they can still market it as Elite but throw it in the bundle. It would be hugely attractive. I really think they'll do it. If they don't, I'll be back to eat crow.

Let it be known though, all you doubters. If I'm right I'll be back to gloat like a motherfucker :D

Removing accessories won't have an effect on your retail price.

Should they do a no controller version and bring the price down $40-$50 and improve its affordability? Depends on if MS research suggests Scorpio will be bought more by upgraders or new purchasers. There are many controller options (including personalization) to buy separately.

It must affect the wholesale price of what it costs to produce everything in the box though, if you dont include a controller and a headset?

£329 with just the Scorpio and a 500G hard drive.
£399 with all the accessories' and a 1TB hard drive.

I think that would shift some stock. Of course they pack in Crackdown 3 in every bundle :)
