Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has 5 types of Battle Mode and new amiibo outfits

Question:

Do these modes have the option of "stock?" As opposed to the timed games? What I mean is that all the videos I've seen how shown the balloons but even when somebody loses them all, they just get new balloons and their score gets halved and then the score is tallied at the end. I'd way prefer the old school version when once you're out of balloons, you're done.

And again, why support a dead system where said DLC wouldn't be that profitable long after the Wii U's demise?
To show the slightest bit of care about those who supported you by buying even that dead-ass system instead of milking an entirely new console purchase out of them for the mode everyone knew was desired before it was even known to be missing in MK8.

I'm not saying it is a moral obligation or something, I'm saying it is how you keep fans instead of burning them over and over again till they finally drop your ass.

Not everyone that own a Wii U is going to buy a new Switch in the first year or even the second year for that matter. When a new system is released doesn't mean that previous system is "dead". Plus, with over 8 million copies sold on the Wii U, Mario Kart 8 DLC would still most likely be profitable for Nintendo. In all honestly, if Nintendo would have had just made a Mario 9, this discussion would just be moot anyway.

Wii U being dead is because it's sales have dried, not because the Switch is coming. The DLC just kind of seems more effort than it's worth to port back to a device not many are going back to in April 2017, even at 8 million copies, let alone pay for

The effort of "porting back" as an argument for their reasonableness presumes that it wasn't known before MK8 was even released that it was something people wanted. It's in Deluxe because it was known. They had 2 1/2 years. They didn't just realize last-second when it was too late and development was all Switch.

Happy that Shine Thief is returning. I will say I wish Mario Kart took a battle mode stage out of DKR book and make it about trying to find enough items and returning it to your base. While also making sure players aren't coming to raid your base.

That doesn't stop publishers from releasing DLC on games that sold a lot less than 8 million.

Ridiculous is the fact that they couldn't be arsed to release this for Mario Kart 8. The only fucking MK Wii U got, and it's a goddamn early access version.

You've officially gone over now. Unless you're parodying yourself now? Do you even know what you're saying anymore? MK8 "early access?" - you realize there's a racing game in there, too and battle mode is not the main game? Right?

All we have are these pictures in the OP. Nobody could possibly know.

But we could extrapolate from older versions of MK. The last one I played the battle mode in, was DD. After that it was always SMK or 64 again. Did the newer ones have options for that kind of stuff?

We still don't know what the Shine Sprite mode is.
It could be either Shine Thief or Shine Runners.
Personally, I do hope it is Shine Thief as it's a more fun game than Shine Runners, which is fundamentally a less chaotic version of Coin Battle.

If the battle mode is feature rich, it's quite baffling Nintendo didn't even mention it in their presentation or Treehouse. I guess they want to build excitement in March/April.

In all fairness, an up port probably doesn't have the same ring to shareholders as New Splatoon, New Mario, New Tech, And These Two Western Dudes.

I feel this is the case, as it would've been foolish to make it content-light for the second go-around.

MK Wii, MK 7, lack the option to choose stock over timed in battle mode. I hate timed battles and battle mode was always my friends and I go to mode. So I haven't really liked a Mario Kart for years now.

My decision to buy this game hinges on whether or not Nintendo include simple options like allowing us to choose stock over timed and letting us choose if we want bots or not. Could you imagine if Smash forced timed battles with mandatory cpu players? It would be awful, just like Mario Kart battle mode had been for years now. They either include these simple options or they can fuck off with this game imo.

Mario Kart 8 was already a solid package. But this one includes all the DLC, battle mode, a few new characters, double item combat, and all of this is portable. Will be worth every penny...

This option is already available in the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 ("No COM").

Mario Kart 8 WiiU had 8 tracks so at worst I feel MK8 Deluxe will match that.

I honestly hope the Yoshi's Valley remains a battle track since it was the only race track that fit battle mode.

Imagine if they did the same with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS. :D

I actually hope they removed the other race courses (as battle maps) for MK8D, as they honestly didn't work.

I disagree

The race track stages would be great for shrine runners and the phirana pursuit mode

For bomb omb blast and balloon battle yeah they're awful

Most of the game was spent trying to out run your enemies on the course, or becoming a dickhead in ghost mode and launching items. I want both of those things removed, as it made the Battle Mode in MK8 the definition of anti-fun.

I'm going to buy this game again and it will al be worth it because of the battle mode.

Block Fort DLC pls

It depends on what version of Block Fort is included. If it's the N64 original or Block City from Mario Kart DS, cool. But I'm not down with the platforms falling into the abyss in MKWii's Block Fort.

I don't disagree with either of those

But mario kart 8 deluxe's battle mode is radically different even in balloon battle, and that doesn't include the other 4 modes. More track like levels have worked in prior mario karts (like big donut in n64) and I think they'd be great especially in shine runners (where the it person has a big glowing light indicating where they are) and I assume the phirana mode (which I assume will be like a zombie mode where one person starts as it). The ghost issue would have been an issue even if mk8 had always had battle mode tracks to start. Had these modes been available in mk8 with that games tracks and no ghosts mk8's multiplayer wouldn't have been the absolute mess it was.

I actually wondered if they've removed the ghost racers for Deluxe, or at least give us an option to turn them off. It wasn't brought up during the Treehouse stream, so I assume it's gone and everything is back to status quo?

Still, you can't be Bomb-omb Blast, and I do want to learn more about the Phirana Plant Mode.

Yep, I'm on the same page. The last battle mode I played was Wii. I hated it. DS had the stupid 'blow up your balloons' mechanic and GCN had way too small maps combined with no jumping button and a weird driving engine in general.

If I wanted to play battle mode, I would always go back to N64 - and that one was a mess too, at least on a technical level with more than 2 players - it has great maps, 4 players and the mode has a great core that feels competitive and methodical enough to counter the chaos.

I want options to allow that again at least. 4 players, no CPU, 3 or 5 balloons, stock, no time limit. All I want out of this. That's worth 60 bucks from my side.

Oh, and Block Fort..

That's something at least.

I think people underestimate the selling power of this game. It's coming very early in the systems life and should sell a lot of Switch.

I'm debating whether or not I want to grab MK8 again mainly since I'm not sure if I want to unlock all the courses/characters again. Having Mario Kart on the go sounds great though.

The game needs a way to keep all players involved into the end of a match, making dead players invisible was a huge mistake so either keep them visible but eliminated or have them lose 3 points and respawn with new balloons. Obviously that isn't needed for the other 4 modes.

It will be the best Mario Kart game out yet when it's released and it's also portable.

I will get it day one now with all this good news.
