Never had idea how it worked. Just had something plastered on the right side of my screen and didn't know how to take it off, haha.

Sure sucks for people who used the feature though.

What? Why?!

"Xbox snap achievements" is something I yell at my Kinect all the time!

edit: actually read the article. If this helps speed up things, and they've already planned some sort of picture-in-picture-type replacement, then I suppose it's all well and good, I guess...

We kinda knew this from MajorNelson over last few days but I guess it's reconfirmed?

Still there but as an overlay

EDIT: Or just look at this picture from Xbox Wire:

What does this mean for custom soundtracks running on either Pandora or the "Simple Music Player" app? Or for Twitch streaming?

Literally anything from the article

Xbox Platform head Mike Ybarra revealed the change on Twitter yesterday, noting that “we replaced Snap to improve multitasking, reduce memory use, improve overall speed, and free up resources going forward for bigger things.”

It's an okay feature but just for them to get rid of it with no replacement is dissapointing and seemingly par for the course for them.

I hope they have a replacement coming.

Pip is replacing it most likely. The test run is the Achievement overlay perhaps.

now you will have the ability to set where you want the Pip to be instead of it shrinking your game.

just my guess though.

Didn't use it much so I can understand why they'd get rid of it. I hope those rumors of them allowing picture in picture apps are true though, that'd be a better replacement if they can figure it out

Good, my biggest gripe with snap was I would do it by mistake never know how to unsnap

Thank god. Was always cumbersome and resource hogging too apparently. Reminded of my old TV that would do picture and picture.

How will Twitch work, then? As it stands now, it snapps the twitch app to allow you to start your broadcast and set your streaming options, then once you're streaming, you can click B to unsnap and go back full screen...

I liked it in concept but only ever used it a couple times with the only memorable one being when I plugged a PSTV into the HDMI and did some late game grinding in Xenogears while watching YouTube.

If this gives us better performance in the dashboard I'm all for it.

It will be integrated into the new guide-bar if I heard right.

Pretty much everything I actually liked about the otherwise terrible xbox one interface is going to be gone soon. Are they going to take live tv away next?

That's what I'm guessing too. Like Cortana can overlay now too, no longer snapping a web search or w/e like b4.

I think this is it. So we can hopefully just overlay a small video feed on the screen rather than a full app down the side

It looks like this now:

They're still tweaking things, but so far it's way faster.

Remember reading about this before and I couldn't be happier. Snapping apps is cumbersome and slow. Hope the replacement is faster.

Snap was a pretty half ass attempt at multitasking so it's nice to see the UI get a more sophisticated version of it.

liked it for a few applications but it was very obviously a resource hog and unwieldly to boot if you were using pad commands for it.

wonder what this means for twitch chat, tv and other more popular applications of it, though.

Great. It was a questionable design decision baked at the core of the platform with very little support.

Well, good.

Snap wasn't a great solution. A simple pop-up or slide-in overlay menu like on the Xbox 360 would have been much better.

I'm sure Microsoft has usage data on snap mode that made removing it something that would have limited wide spread controversy. I'll miss it even though I rarely used it. Losing the option to use though still sucks.

I use this for snapping reference images of liveries from Google for creating skins in Forza games. I'm gonna miss this feature big time.

Not happy.

Thank goodness.

I fully rely on Kinect for TV controls and it's a disaster when something snaps by mistake.
