I'm kind of looking forward to it either way. Either he does, and his allies on the right will go insane, or he won't and we have another blatant lie and an expected backflip. He's starting to fuck himself from both ends.

It's a good thing Trump hasn't built up a reputation for being a guy who changes his opinions depending on whatever fucking mood he's in.

oh how benevolent of him. and the rest of you ought to be ashamed of yourselves for even letting up for one second.

he didn't do anything here. if anything this is threat. he's saying he won't rescind the Executive Order that was in place but he could if need be.

Watch, he'll come out with an EO by the end of the week stopping same sex couples from adopting, getting married, or having the same benefits as straights. They will be allowed to work though. I don't know that for a fact. My fear is kicking in overdrive and I'm seeing the worse in everything.
Yeah I wouldn't drop your guard. Not with this fuck in power

Hope this is true.

I'm sure he'll still nominate someone who's against LGBT rights to the Supreme Court though.
Linda McMahon being the most pro LGBT cabinet pick he selected should be a good indicator of this being the case

But I totally believe that he isn't planning on signing any anti LGBT executive orders. Because that would be directly attached to him. And him giving the appearance of being more pro LGBT did help him win; so I don't anticipate him trying to at not least trying to somewhat maintain that image

This like that bad guy who suddenly has a change of heart for a split second. The protagonist then relaxes for a little bit and then the bad guy chops his arm off.

That's because the EO will be garnered towards religion instead of directly acting LGBT communities...goal post shifting at its finest.

So fake news in this case. It's dangerous, because it legitimises the government's use of term.

This EO would have been incredibly upsetting, but also surprising as I don't believe Trump promised such a thing during his campaign, and so far everything he has done is stuff he telegraphed clearly.

Religious Liberty

Religious liberty is enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution. It is our first liberty and provides the most important protection in that it protects our right of conscience. Activist judges and executive orders issued by Presidents who have no regard for the Constitution have put these protections in jeopardy. If I am elected president and Congress passes the First Amendment Defense Act, I will sign it to protect the deeply held religious beliefs of Catholics and the beliefs of Americans of all faiths. The Little Sisters of the Poor, or any religious order for that matter, will always have their religious liberty protected on my watch and will not have to face bullying from the government because of their religious beliefs.

The First Amendment Defense Act (often abbreviated FADA) (H.R. 2802) is a bill introduced into the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate on June 17, 2015. The Senate sponsor of the bill is Mike Lee (R-Utah), and the House sponsor is Raul Labrador (R-Idaho).[1] The bill aims to prevent the federal government from taking action against a person "on the basis that such person believes or acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction that: (1) marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or (2) sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage".[2]

This is part of the new strategy of the far-right to try and get as many people as they can on the anti-immigrant/anti-muslim train. It's like gert wilders in Holland or Marine Le Pen who's been trying to convince gay people to vote for her by saying that muslims were the most major threat to lgbtq people in the west. Just remember the reactions after the Orlando terrorist attack.

Trump knows that trying to fight gay rights is a losing battle. Thankfully lgbtq people are well organized and know how to fight back + a majority of the population supports gay rights. If you think this means that Trump and his administration are pro-lgbt then you're naive. Never forget whom he chose as his vice president.

Gay rights advocates seemed unimpressed. Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said Mr. Trump was setting a low bar by claiming credit for not overturning the actions of his predecessor.

“L.G.B.T.Q. refugees, immigrants, Muslims and women are scared today, and with good reason,” Mr. Griffin said. “Donald Trump has done nothing but undermine equality since he set foot in the White House.”

Also this, so fucking hard. The awful things you don't do aren't anything to the weight of the awful things you have done your entire life.

Praise be to Lord Trump for not shitting in my cereal. He could have, but he decided not to. Such a kind act of mercy. Bow to him.

I don't trust this administration at all, so I'm expecting Trump to push an executive order on "religious liberty" at some point down the road. Either that, or congressional Republicans decide to pass legislation instead.

It's nice that he probably won't directly do something like the rumored executive order but he's appointed so many people with negative views on LGBTQ issues that it rings pretty hollow. Will be interesting to see his Supreme Court nomination's views on this matter.

This sounds staged. Leak out the potential EO, and then deny it. People get the impression that they got fired up for nothing and warm up to him.

It's this or someone in the inner circle really wanted to go with it and Trump or someone else denied them. So it was drafted, leaked, and ultimately the decision for now is no. My guess is possibly Pence/Priebus wanted it and Trump said no.

Weren't there also rumors though that the party itself might basically do the same thing through law rather than EO?

the LGBT community is insanely organized and has only ever known the fight for most of their lives. The administration is backing down for now, but they'll be back. don't get complacent.

yes i guess it's more likely that the trump squad staged this 'leak' , than it's likely that the media made up the story because they figured fuck it people will believe it's legit and hell it's a coin flip whether he'll do it or not anyway....objectivity works both ways brosefs...

he's been supportive throughout his campaign, people love digging up straw men to induce more needless hate

Eh, maybe. It's possible that the news was made up out of whole cloth and a bunch of people were taken in, which is what it would need to be to be fake news.

Or it's also possible that the rumor came from something real, like Pence floating an anti-LGBT executive order, and it didn't pass muster with Trump. It's also possible that it was floated as a trial balloon to see how angry people would get, and dropped when people flipped out. It's also possible that it was unintentionally leaked, caused a bigger reaction than expected, and they decided it wasn't worth the political cost.

Jumping right to "fake news" when something doesn't happen isn't very useful.

Positive move by Trump for sure

I mean not really, leaving things at the status quo is neutral.

While that sounds plausible, here's the problem. This story wasn't really picked up by mainstream media anyway. It didn't make waves. If no one knows the story, who is this act for? You and me? The online crowd that tracks this kind of stuff make up a fraction of the public. We'll see if this statement dominates the news cycle tomorrow but I doubt it. If they were doing what you described, they could have waited another day for maximum effect.

I think it's more likely this is either a deflection until they later put out a roundabout discrimination EO or they simply don't care right now but won't feel any qualms about flip flopping in the future.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the EO "leak" was a way of testing waters. The only thing that can help this country is how much he cares what people think of him. Keep letting him know what is bullshit because I'm sure he wants unbelievable approval ratings, the best.

Do a ton of shady shit, 'leak' that you'll do more, and be like 'Nope, see, I'm a good guy, I'm not doing that one thing! LOVE ME.'
