EA: Titanfall 2 below expectations, lots of new content coming, long term franchise

I'm interested in this game but I don't want to support EA.
I like that they won't split their userbase through map DLC and I like Respawn, so maybe I'll bite when the game is somewhat cheaper...

I played the first level and found it to be pretty pedestrian "shoot the dudes in the rocky place" guff, put it down weeks ago and never really felt the desire to go back.

The tutorial and the first hour i was not impressed either but you should really sick to it a bit more.

Mmmmmkay. I'll wait to see what happens next I guess.

Respawn isn't EA's studio so they can't actually shut it down. Worst thing which can happen is that Respawn will have to make a new IP and find a new publisher for that - granted that this isn't exactly easy and the studio may die in the process but still.

Fuckin-A

I'll be playing the MP for YEARS to come

My favorite game of last year next to DOOM and my favorite MP experience ever next to TF1 and KZ2 MP (^______^)

Yea Titanfall 2 is awesome.

EA I dont understand. They obviously would have known that TF2s success would have been impacted by BF1, COD and FIFA.

It looks to me that they did this to inflate the success of BF1 and Fifa, while possibley denting COD sales.

No wonder why respawn seem generally fucked off with EA.

Why exactly?

Many reasons that accumulated over the years.
They buy and then shot down many of my favorite studios, like Bullfrog, Origin or Westwood.
They accumulate licenses like Star Wars and NFL exclusively and then sit on them, not releasing as many/interesting games as the open market could.
I don't like Origin as a service and I don't like that it cripples Online-Communities that would otherwise have a stable future on PC.
They had a few years last gen where I seriously thought they were gonna change - Dead Space, Mirrors Edge and publishing things like Brütal Legend... It was a fluke sadly.
Dungeon Keeper mobile finally pushed me over the edge.

I'm reconsidering my stance for some games, but so far not one has pushed me to buy an EA game for years. Titanfall 2 looks really interesting though and I'd love to play this game with some friends. There's lots of other stuff to play though, so I might look into it when the price comes way down...

Easily one of the best games of 2016 and it gets treated like crap by EA. They may have it as a long term franchise, but the fact they put it between or near BF1 and COD really shows the lack of giving a shit. Release it during the summer and it will do much better, then have it on sale for the holidays and it will sell more, breathing new life into it. I hope to god the free content will continue into the next iterations. Please no paid DLC.

And yet they keep doing well extremely well financially. How could this be?

Fools with deep pockets and even lesser common sense reward them annually for mediocrity? That and they've muscled out most of their competition with ME&A's.

Why would they aim for higher numbers? Who the hell is doing these things? What the hell is EA doing in general.
They used to be evil and incompetent, now they're just less evil and incompetent. It's an improvement I guess

When you basically have a monopoly on most of the big titles in one of the most popular videogame genres, sports, you have a huge cushion of fucking up, lol.

You are right about the monopoly but they were hurting not so long ago. Hence the change at CEO.

Longterm franchise? Titanfall 3 to release in the same week as GTA VI...

But game seriously surprised me. Strong SP and enjoyable MP.

It sold below expectation because MS was basically giving it away when it was XB-exclusive.

That would probably skew the numbers.

I never liked not starting in your Titan. Why hold back what everyone wants? Just dumb.

Maybe they need to consider more than 6v6 and bigger maps. Then there will be no need for worthless grunts.

"worthless" grunts are part of the experiance, at least in titanfall 1 they were part of the world and they all had unique animations and emotions.

Titanfall 2 nearly launched without this stuff too, and what's there is weak compared to the original game.

try last titan standing.

not starting in your titan and earning your titan is half the fun. the grunts do add to the fun. not the reapers so much

If you believe this then you have not played the game enough or don't understand the gameplay/map flow of TF and TF2. There is already a game mode called Last Titan Standing which you start out with a Titan and everyone has one as well. There is also a game mode for people who want to play PvP. The grunts are not the problem and if you think they are then you just haven't bothered to learn to play the game the right way.

Your right it did. Too bad a huge amount of people were not aware of that. Not only did they put it a week from battlefield but their marketing could have been better.

EA's relationship with Microsoft probably leans them to advertise more for the PS4. I always thought the biggest thing to hurt titanfall was the initial plan to have the first title be a Xbox one exclusive. There wasn't much of a built in fanbase on the PS base to give it added sales.

As far as marketing, I think it was relatively on point with the old COD ads, especially with Titanfall 2 being all over mountain dew and dorritos. Though the fact that you had those two ad campaigns and it still didn't sell well will hopefully drive home the point to publisher marketing teams that not all gamers live off the dew and flammable cheese crackers.

Titanfall 2 MP is one of my biggest go-to games currently, and I have no trouble finding players at all hours of the day in the mode that I play (Bounty Hunt). The population numbers don't ever seem to be incredibly high, but the game is far from dead.

Very active and easy to find a game.

Amazing MP, haven`t had this much fun maybe ever.

Thanks, guys!

Looks like I'll be getting TF2 soon.

I've barely played anything else since I got Titanfall 2. It's by far one of the best games I've ever played.

There are so many games coming out this year and all I can think about is playing more titanfall. A few small changes to the multiplayer would make it perfect. It's so close!

it ain't so fun in this game where pilot combat can hold you for the first 3~5 minutes of the game without a titan in attrition, because there are f all Minions (or that the minions are only really worth killing AS a Titan)

The player base is holding kinda steady for the last two months. Its not super populated but it hasnt become a ghost town either. And I was so sure it would be dead on the PC in a month.

So I think (hopefully) its found its place.

Pretty impressive that BF1 and FIFA 17 are on their way to be the best of all time sellers, BF1 I can somehow understand, COD dropped and people were really excited about the WW1 concept, but what was special about FIFA 17 that made it the best selling FIFA?

TF3 needs to drop Source asap. It's looks ok but the jump to a more capable engine would be really amazing, especially with Scorpio around the corner.

I'm pretty sure it needs source for some of the movement stuff they do.

The popularity of soccer/football is growing. Plus, it is clear that people are obsessed with FUT.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Titanfall 2 is one of the greatest first person shooters ever made. Yes, it really is that good.
