Rumor: PS4 dropping price to 199 tomorrow to counter Switch launch in some EU stores

Just another case of Sony being reactive to Nintendo that people will just handwave as something they were going to do anyways.

As a matter of fact, I feel a little bad for Horizon now.

Got confirmation it's shipping.

I've been waiting for a long time for a price drop, so I went in head first.

The only problem is it can't play zelda. :p

Got one reserved at my local Argos now!

...which means I'm gonna be getting Zelda and Horizon at the same time, huh? This could be interesting...

Good thing I just beat Shovel Knight

got a ps4 for 10 cents by changing my mobile plan The new plan was better and cheaper so it actually saved me money as well. I also got 3 months of free data as a bonus. Obviously this would only work for those who would save money on the plan and/or doesnt plan to purchase a mobile phone in the near future.

I wonder what game will do better, the one that launched on the platform that has sold 55 million units, or the one that is launching on a dead platform plus a new one that has 0 sales yet.

Why feel bad for Horizon. Game is going to sell huge. The install base alone for the game is larger than that of Zelda.

As a person who had not jump on a console this generation (and being interested in the switch), the 188 vs 360 price point made it an easy sale for me. It really hits a sweet spot for an impulsive buy for someone who has a beefy PC. It does help all my friends already have ps4s as well.

Black Friday x Scorpio launch will have a fire sale for PS4 pro hopefully
I'm ready for knack 2 at max settings 😎

It's interesting how supply constrained PS4 Pro is this far after launch. Out of stock on Amazon, unavailable in most Best Buy stores (though available online). I can't decide if it's outselling their expectations, or they can't yet make it as cheaply as they want to so they deliberately aren't making that many.

I'm glad I have a Pro but if they put the slim at $200 it's going to look really expensive at double the price.

I do think E3 would be a perfect time for them to fill the channel with Pro stock and announce a price drop, with Scorpio having to announce price and date the day before Sony's presentation. 'Scorpio for $399 in November eh? How about PS4 Pro right now for $349!'would be a nice counter to Microsoft if they could do it. And then they could still go lower, say $300 at Scorpio launch.

I don't think Sony fears Switch. They are capitalizing on the hype around a new console that is going to be supply constrained. People will be coming in to stores and going online, and not able to get a Switch with Zelda. PS4 on a fire sale + Horizon will be tempting.

Bingo.

They want to rope in a few dissapointed customers.

It looks more like a desperate move from Sony. People who wants to buy a Switch aka play the best game of all time are not going to buy a PS4 instead.

Yep its a smart move regardless hype a of a new console puts eyes on the Stores and Online marketplaces, can see Sony doing something similar when Scorpio comes out.

A fairly fanboy response if you think that, they are not desperate PS4 aint struggling for more sales.

This is quite clever. Nintendo created more hype than what they can sell, so other companies can swoop in the excess marketing. They even have HZD to mirror the people looking for something like Zelda (on surface level). Scary timing.

Woudn't make more sense doing this in Japan or US where Nintendo is much stronger?
More WiiUs were sold in Germany than XBONEs as faras I remember, they are Pretty Strong in Germany (as much as they can be in one of the Most loyal markets for the PlayStation).

As others have said though, this is a move to Profit from people going to Stores as Part of the Launch Day hype, Not as a move to "fight" the Switch (this is done by retailers that sell both after all).

Good grief, review scores does not equal sales and it's also available on the WiiU, plus Horizon is a very Solid ... "substitute" if anyone is that desperate to play a great open world RPG.
