Glad that Bomberman and DQH did "ok"

Disgaea 5 isn't the only Switch launch title that didn't chart. I am Setsuna and Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence are missing too.

None of those are surprising at all imo. Disgaea 5 and Nobunga are full priced 2+years old ports.

Great Launch for the Switch. How this compared to the PS4, WiiU and others system at launch? Also, Zelda above Horizon by a fair margin (almost double). I thought that was confirmed that Horizon beaten Zelda in Japan because the PS4 users base.

BotW sales are pretty good considering the series has been selling pretty poorly since TP in Japan. Except for PH which is one of the highest selling Zeldas over there.

Should have had a MH port ready to go for launch, Nintendo paying for the port would have made too much sense. I know what I'm doing on the 18th.
An HD Switch port of XX would've been too smart. Also would've been the only way I would've been interested enough to purchase the game. I'm not doing all thos low and high rank quests again.

01./00. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild # <ADV> (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} (¥6.980) - 186.379 / NEW
03./00. [NSW] 1-2-Switch <ETC> (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} (¥4.980) - 79.536 / NEW
06./00. [NSW] Super Bomberman R <ACT> (Konami) {2017.03.03} (¥4.980) - 36.623 / NEW
07./00. [NSW] Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for Nintendo Switch <Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below \ Dragon Quest Heroes II> <RPG> (Square Enix) {2017.03.03} (¥8.800) - 25.606 / NEW
10./00. [NSW] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2017.03.03} (¥4.990) - 12.854 / NEW

That is 340,998 in total software sale, it is more than the hardware sold, so I'm not sure what are people talking about. Japan has more launch game than the rest of the world.

Surprised by the low Zelda numbers, but overall a very good launch for the Switch.

I am happy for Horizon and a bit sad to see Nier's numbers go down so quickly, but there is fierce competition.

Actually with the exception of Bomberman every retail release on Switch from third parties is a late port.

Yeah, I was merely pointing out that the level of there (lack of) success isn't surprising.

DQH doing better than them all makes sense as its DQ and it's not as late a port as the rest.

Given on how heavily MHX relies on the second screen of the 3DS, I don't think it's as much of a trivial port job as you'd like

Yeah, they're all late ports so obviously they won't sell much. I just thought that it's worth mentioning because others only talked about Disgaea 5.

I thought maybe westerners importing I am Setsuna (like me) because of it's English friendly release might have helped it, but that's likely only a few hundred copies!

Disgaea 5 isn't the only Switch launch title that didn't chart. I am Setsuna and Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence are missing too.

Nobunaga's isn't surprising, The last two games (Way of Heaven/Sphere of Influence) opened to 6.1k and 5.6k on Vita respectively (and went on to sell 36k/53k LT with all versions combined).

I am Setsuna is a whole case of "I don't know why they bothered".

Wat? The bottom screen on 3DS just de-clutters the HUD. Your special attacks could be mapped to the left joycon's face buttons/D-Pad. Not complicated. Also didn't stop them from porting it to 3G to Wii U, which I played with a Pro Controller with no Gamepad use.

We played Monster Hunter without a second screen for years. Just takes a bit of minor reworking.

Apparently game data transfers over so you wont have to. Granted I am not buying XX for 3DS period when it launches i internationally because 4 MH on one system is excess for me especially when all ny buds didnt buy generations because 4U was better content wise. If it goes to Switch I will for better graphics and controller support.

Yes they do. Misses the point entirely though. So you think that Japanese gamers, who already have a lower digital download rate are going to go spend significant extra to download games instead of just getting the game physically?

Physical is usually slightly cheaper as well since stores discount even new games a bit but the digital prices stay at full.

You're forgetting the fact that the switch has two sticks which frees up the d-pad for hunter arts. There's also the triggers which can act as modifiers for quick crafting.

the touch screen also indicates hunter art charge levels, and you'd also have to bind kick/special-action somewhere as well

there's also the second screen being used for things like chat actions, village warping, etc

3G started out as a game using a single screen that had additional second screen functionality added to it. MHX started out with the assumption of two screens. one is much easier to decouple than the other

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Yeah, Nobunaga being this low is not surprising in the slightiest. Actually, selling at around 5,000 copies would've been the best case scenario.

Waiting for Famitsu numbers before making more historical comparisons and (potentially) for more Switch launch titles. However, small tidbit: Puyo Puyo Tetris did...very well for what it is (Media Create)?

02./00. [3DS] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2014.02.06} (¥5.229) - 44.627 / NEW
12./00. [PS3] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2014.02.06} (¥5.229) - 10.306 / NEW
14./00. [PSV] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2014.02.06} (¥5.229) - 8.973 / NEW
20./16. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 # <ACT> (Capcom) {2013.09.14} (¥5.990) - 5.654 / 3.214.065 (-22%) - reference
25./00. [WIU] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2014.02.06} (¥5.229)

It actually was the second best debut for the game despite being a very late port. Also, its debut wasn't that far from Puyo Puyo Chronicles

08./00. [3DS] Puyo Puyo Chronicle # <RPG> (Sega) {2016.12.08} (¥5.490) - 13.873 / NEW

Everything you mention regarding second screen has a single screen solution. And there are plenty of buttons on the joycons to handle kick and special action. There's +, -, ZR, ZL.

This might be extreme tales from my ass since I found it unsourced on 2ch while looking for other stuff, but it appears to be some sort of retailer survey detailing software titles purchased alongside a Switch

ZR and ZL are already mapped to target lock and chat; +/- are menu buttons.

The point I'm making isn't that a single-screen solution is impossible, it's that the single-screen solution requires Capcom to make non-trivial adjustments to backport. I'm certain Capcom could have gotten MHXX-S out in time for a simultaneous release with the 3DS version but I don't think it's something that is worth pulling additional staff working on MH5 or whoknowswhat

Kick can be mapped to the select button. Special action can be mapped to one of the triggers. Chat actions can be mapped to the other trigger. Village warping can simply be added to the start menu.

BotW sales are pretty good considering the series has been selling pretty poorly since TP in Japan. Except for PH which is one of the highest selling Zeldas over there.

Zelda selling poorly lol. Still sells 400-500K per release on 3DS (for OOT3D it was 600K, MM3D + ALBW it was > 400K). Given that it's a launch game, it has the potential to sell more like OOT3D. We'll see though. Those are still decently good sales in Japan. It's just no longer the juggernaut it is in the West.

That's good to know. Maybe I'll give it a go since game data transfers. I'd really like to play it on Switch in dock mode with a Pro Controller though. Ah well.

I honestly exoect we'll get a 3U situation for the West wherenit launches on both systems. 3DS ks in it's last year. By the time they are ready to launch XX it's not going to be very rewlistic to launch games on it

Enough buttons go unused in 3U on WiiU that this stuff literally would not be an issue. The fact kick was mapped to the touch screen was awful btw. It was on - in Tri and 3U. Games have existed forever without a second screen.

It's still low relative to the west. 400-500k is Fire Emblem numbers now.

Over 200k week 1 for Zelda in Japan seems good to me.
