Capcom: Ninja Theory and Dontnod nailed the feeling of the Capcom DNA

DE fixed loads of problems the game had, enough to make it have maybe the best combat in a western game.

But it's still garbage compared to the older games and games like bayonetta and MGR.

Even then, taking away comparisons, the plot is so cringeworthy that it's almost impossible to play.

Oh dear, what was said?

Some powerpoint presentation when discussing the game design. Some snippets(context could be lost so unclear on whether to actually take this at face value), but regardless I am not a fan of Ninja Theory myself.

I like MGR but it's not a combo heavy game. It's more forgiving than DmC.

Makes no sense since Remember Me was a Sony game that Capcom picked up near the end of its development.
How much Capcom was injected in that short time? Seeing how stale and boring the game is, maybe they overdosed.

NT's DmC is best the DMC I played. Shame Sony didn't give Heavenly Sword another try. They've improved a lot since that game.

DmC, at least vanilla, was a decent game but a huge step back from DMC4 in many ways, mechanically speaking. The aesthetics were alright. There was some stuff I really enjoyed, other things I didn't. Only the QoL improvements I appreciated without reservations.

I hear the DE is a huge improvement but I only had a PC when it came out. I assume you can have most of the stuff with mods but by that time I was kinda done with the game already. I double dipped on DMC4SE instead which is, of course, a much better game.

There's an option to make the style system more strict and harder to earn S ranks, added a lock-on, I think enemies are more aggressive and will attack you frequently than just standing around, and an optional turbo mode that speeds up the overall flow of the game by 20%.

According to a comment it's old footage. The game is going through a rework.

I wouldn't call MGR more forgiving than DmC (the latter is far too easy for that), but it is less combo-oriented. Ninja Gaiden would be a closer comparison, in respect to the focus being more on dispatching enemies quickly and efficiently than styling on them as much as possible.

DontNod didn't capture that at all. Remember Me looked like a Ubisoft game through and through. So much that three or four times I forgot that Ubisoft was not the game's publisher.

DmC was a failed experiment that only succeeded in splintering the fanbase and casting doubt on the future of the franchise.
Pretty much. If the game was truly good and/or successful a sequel would have been green lit a while ago. The game falls into the category of Capcom making a game nobody wanted.

If Ninja Theory did a good job we wouldn't be where we are at with Devil May Cry.
They indeed did a good job,DmC is one of the highest rated DMC games with pretty good sales (but not as good as some of the classic series) you just have to consider the thirst for classic DMC is great

What other outside devs used Capcom IPs?

I can only think of DmC which was listed as "getting it" but also Doubl Helix used Strider and that turned out decent?

I loved DmC music to battles to bosses it all fit

I loved DmC at 60fps in the DE on PS4. I hated it at 30fps on 360.

It's the sort of game that absolutely has to be played at 60fps. If the new God of War is 30fps then SM has lost a fan.

I wouldn't disagree. Especially NT moreso than Dontnod. I see the thread has already turned more into "DmC was bad". But if that was its own game, and had the capcom label I'd have still bought it. Remember me a little lesser since the idea was so far ahead before capcom even got to it. But it still sort of works.

I'd want to see both games repped in MVCI so that's something.

I even say stuff like Operation Raccoon City had a capcom spirit even if the quality wasn't there. Which was the biggest issue really. They did feel like capcom western games, they were just missing a special something (talking the games not mentioned like lost planet 3)

i dont want that specific brand of capcom dna,
where DmC is concerned,
thank you very much

the new GoW doesnt even look like a character action game to begin with, it looks like another over the shoulder perspective game now

If we're talking combat mechanics only, I think DmC is way better than MGR.

It's just that MGR has much better boss fights, and that obviously makes a huge difference.

No nod to Grin? I thought Bionic Commando (both '09 and Rearmed!) were awesome! ... oh yeah that's right; didn't have the words Street Fighter or Monster Hunter anywhere in them, so they didn't give 2 shits. Same with Dragon's Dogma.... why Capcom? ...why?

Grin destroyed themselves with Wanted, Terminator, and trying to juggle multiple unannounced projects that never came to light.

Although I really liked that Wanted game.

It took reading this post for me to actually internalise the fact that Ubisoft had nothing to do with Remember Me.

Shit.

Ninja Theory should get a second try at the DMC ip before Kamiya. They made the better game. :]

Which only got to where it was due to Itsuno coming in and saying what a shit job they was doing and made them learn how to do gameplay.

Heck even the DE re release was NT just taking ideas from Mods that were done on the Pc

Ninja Theory nailed the Capcom DNA so well that Itsuno and a few people from the Devil May Cry 4 team had to come in and basically teach Ninja Theory how to do gameplay. So the idea that Ninja Theory nailed the Capcom DNA gets retorted with this gif in my opinion

From a looney tunes character to someone with an actual character arc. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dante's character arc in DmC is "I started off being an asshole to everyone now I'm an asshole to everyone except the one girl who wants my brother more than me". If DMC2 didn't exist, reboot Dante would be the least interesting take on the character.

Also, like ElBoxyBrown said, Dante gets a pretty solid character arc in DMC3. He doesn't get much an arc in DMC4 because he's not the main character

This, all of this.

Entertaining that the "white hair!" narrative is still perpetuated by DmC's defenders as why people didn't like it, regardless of how many times its rejection is explained to them.

But the hate was there before any gameplay was ever shown, and most DMC fans were never good enough to be concerned about legit gameplay criticisms.

Remember Me was a really great, underrated game.

Completely agree. I loved that game even if it had some flaws in the combat that needed more work/polish.

I'd like love a new Remember Me game with Capcom quality combat. Shit I honestly even liked the combat although it definitely could have used improvements. Art style and soundtrack were amazing. Story was meh but Nilin was a pretty rad character.

This.
