I'd like crazier V-Triggers like in KI but I prefer less insane tools if they're meterless. I think people like playing broken characters so limiting that brokenness to a power up could be a better balance.
They have a very good idea with Guile's V-Trigger and I wanna see more of that tbh. Birdie's is also pretty good, even if it's not the most creative thing in the world

"Fuck up the screen with black shit" is fun times. Especially when you're doing a stomp mixup

I should try to play it again, but my sticks aren't supported well by the game
I normally don't like playing "pure" grapplers but boy, it is so satisfying to land a command grab with that guy.

STAB, STOMP STOMP DOUBLE STOMP.

Helps that he has great AAs, I always love that in a character.
You need Windows 10 if you want to play KI on PC, right?
Yup, Windows 10 exclusive. It's much better now than when it first released though. They've ironed out a lot of issues and the WIndows store is much more bearable now.

There is still an issue with sticks apparently, so you might want to download the F2P version just to test things out.

I'll quote my post from 2 pages ago:
Killer Instinct is 40% off for GOLD members on Xbox One/Windows 10. 24$, down from 39.99$

Xbox pre-paid cards DO work on the Microsoft store, and a 14-day trial code can be gotten for around 3$ so all in all, it's still less than 30$ which is a GREAT price for what you get.

Same problem for me. It used to be fine but sometime after the world tour mode's release it was borked and hasn't worked fine at all. I suppose I could try using one of the mapping programs but I don't want to spend money on them.

I keep meaning to pick up KI in a real way but man, I really just like the game I already play. Even with a waning pool of players and only a handful of offline events per year, I find it difficult to justify investing time into games that aren't VF.

shrug.

By the time I'm ready to move on, it'll be 2030 and SEGA will announce VF6 two days later.

Try XOutput, it's free.
My XInput enabled stick is jacked in one direction, but getting my other stick to work using XOutput was pretty easy. You don't need to install the driver, since you are on Windows 10. Use the USB device panel (press Win+R, then enter "joy.cpl" and press enter) to see what physical button the numbers in the program correspond to.

I personally would recommend giving it a shot. You don't necessarily have to invest a lot of time into it.

You can even try out the F2P version to get a feel for the game's systems and whether they appeal to you. Jago (the shoto character) is unlocked permanently, and there's a rotating free character every week. Current free character is Tusk.

I feel like this game deserves more players than it's getting tbh. I can't help but feel sad sometimes that SF5 gets so much in terms of viewership and popularity and KI can't stack up when it's just as deserving of it if not more so.

I could plug in and get a single match working well, then suddenly the next it wouldn't work.

It was fustrating playing Sub - KI

I own KI seasons 1 & 2 and played through the tutorial wayyyy back before the XBO even launched at a MS store. I like the game and really admire how committed it is to its mechanics, it's not "Street Fighter with combo breakers" or whatever, it's its own thing.

But when push comes to shove, I'd rather wait a few minutes to get online matches in VF than play anything else. That's where I'm at right now. I'm enjoying Zelda on my Switch and I even plan to get Tekken 7 when that comes out, but VF is life AND hometown.

I appreciate the mechanics and implementation of KI, they've done SO much right with it.

I really wish I could get past the character designs, especially the classic ones, just so...naff.

Fair enough, I can respect that.

Just make sure to live up to your avatar tag and be there for Yakuza: Kiwami ;)

Of course! I played through the whole series back in 2015 and have always really loved the first game. I think it gets a worse rap than it deserves, and am looking forward to revisiting it with a new coat of paint.

The classic characters are so gloriously 90's. Design-wise, season 1 KI is by far my favorite.

I had never played KI before this one, so to see everyone's original designs in the retro costumes was so jarring. It was SOOO 90's.

But their designs/redesigns in this one look amazing. Especially love what they did with Kan-Ra.

Finally decided to pick up KI, the only game willing to pander to my skeleton fetish. I still dislike the combo system, but I'll give it a shot.

It's crazy how bad the human characters look compared to the robots and monsters. The jank animations actually suit someone like Kilgore or Hisako.

Just be glad you aren't jumping in with the original combo system. It's much less frustrating now. I no longer feel like consistently opening the opponent up isn't rewarded even if your combos are consistently broken.

edit: cross post from the official thread but I'd appreciate anyone that could help.

Hey guys please go to http://beam.pro/killerinstinct - you don't even have to watch it just turn it on the background. If they can get a 1000 viewers we get shin hisako early.

Even if it wasn't an Xbone exclusive, I thought the game looked incredibly unappealing while Double Helix was in charge. The only thing it had going for it was music and sound design.

Chaos Code New Sign of Catastrophe is up for PS4 now

Great fighter that was crippled in its previous iteration by lack of online. It now has online plus the arcade updates that were missing from the first version like the new moves per character.

Its pretty cool as it lets you customize a bit by letting you choose a few skill to equip before the match like specials or movement stuff.

Yesssssss. Perfect timing for me.

I hope it's SFV for the 3rd for the special event in May (maybe all 3 will be arcade based?).

Can Killer Instinct fans tell me why Killer Instinct Gold/2 was so poorly received for its time?

Among my circle people hated the new characters and the characters/stages from the past. A barbarian and amazonian was seen as a step down from the dark future aesthetic of the original. That's not me though, I loved KI 2.

I think the game suffers from the general brokeness and bad balance of most 90's fighters too, although I can't remember the details. I don't remember anyone liking the new mechanics like the weird parry and everyone complained that the breaker system was simplified to just guess between kick and punch.
