Neo Geo games coming to Nintendo Switch

I think I've never played a Neo Geo game, apart from a little bit of one of the Metal Slug games a long time ago. I fancy a second game for my Switch to compliment Zelda, I will be playing it mostly single player. I'm really glad to hear the brightness issue on the Neo Geo games seems to have been fixed. From what I gather Shock Troopers or the Waku Waku games would be good choices?

Neo Geo is home to some of the best looking (and playing) 2D games ever made. Check out Metal Slug 3. You'll be blown away by the end of the first level.

Love Metal Slug 3 to death when I was a kid. But I will wait till the audio issue mentioned by others is fixed.

Just bought Shock Troopers instead. I hope it will deliver.

I want Waku Waku and Shock Troopers.

How bad is the audio delay? Should I wait for the patch or is it not very noticable?

I have three of the Neo Geo games and haven't noticed any audio delay at all, I own Metal Slug 3, Shock Troopers 2 and NAM-1975. I can't believe how technical some people gets with games, just buy and enjoy your games.

Thanks, just got Shock Troopers and Wagu Wagu 7.

I might have to pick up Metal Slug at some point.

They all have infinite continues (no challenge?) though, right?

You can disable continues. Wish you could pick the number of continues for training, but better than nothing.

And to be a little more helpful: I think the disable is in the gameplay menu. One of the top menus anyway.

So there is no practice mode on switch for kof 98?
If you are charging money for an emulator at least make em better then illegal options.

🤔

Mg3 is fine tho.

So which should I go for KoF 98 or 94?

I don't own a Switch, but I'm a huge Neo Geo fan and I strongly urge everyone with a Switch to pick KoF 98 up. I go to my local Round 1 every weekend to play it on the cabinets (98 Ultimate Match). It's probably my favorite fighting game of all time. I would buy it in absolutely every format possible lol.

ZERO lies detected. This post is pure truth.

For those playing Waku Waku 7, I'm glad you're enjoying it. It's a great game. Fernandez is a cheating piece of shit though, especially in the higher difficulties :)

I thought the NS versions were based off of the arcade games instead of the home console games which had all of those modes in it?

Does Waku Waku 7 have a training mode or whatever where you can see how to do special moves?

Also, not a big fan of complexity in fighting games. Is it relatively simple?

damn, still wanting Shock Troopers & a few others, but with progress being made on NG flashcarts finally, i kinda wanna hold out & save for when that scene's got it down

really?! this makes me even more excited for the switch than i already am if true..

Yeah, they're good. Feels awkward and cramped initially, but the thumbsticks are extremely accurate and comfortable due to their their length being so short and their pivot being so wide. Short hops (down, tap up) in KOF are the only commands I occasionally have trouble with, but overall these things can go toe-to-toe with low end arcade sticks. I'll say that again. The Switch's Joy-Cons are more accurate and comfortable than my £40 360/PS3 Horis.

'98 without a second thought. It's the best KOF there is and arguably one of the best 2D fighters ever made.

Nope, they're straight up emulated versions of the arcade games. However, each character has some specials listed on the character select screen when they're highlighted and you can find a full listing of special moves buried deep in the digital manual you can pull up while paused.

Unless I am horribly mistaken Neo Geo ROMs are the same whether MVS or home cart, it's the BIOS that dictates whether the game is in arcade or home mode. There's really no excuse for not letting the user choose the home cart version with the extra modes.

perhaps they want to stick to the title "Arcade Archives" instead of going full "Virtual Console" ?

I don't see how giving the option to select the home versions is counter to that branding. People have been enabling the home versions on their Neo Geo MVS boards (and the other way around) for about 15 years, it's old hat now and it should be expected in an official product.

They're all MVS since the level and credits are displayed, so they're basically the arcade versions. Having that said, I bet some would want the AES versions for more features.

Bought KoF 98 and Waku Waku to add to Metal Slug 3 and Shock Troopers. Waku Waku is awesome and tons of fun. I'm pretty bad at Kof.. lol

I'm hoping they add World Soccer 96 to the library. When I interned out in California we saw a bar that had some old arcade cabs and played it. Was a blast with friends.

Played some Metal Slug 3 co-op with some friends tonight in between Zelda. We skipped the Pro Controller for Metal Slug and used the Joycons in 2P and like others here, we were all impressed at how comfortable and responsive the Joycons are to hold and play in intense multiplayer sessions despite being so small (up until now I'd only played MS3 with the Pro Controller and in portable mode). They also worked great when we played Bomberman. I still hope Nintendo releases some VC friendly Joycons later with D-pads but the mini analog sticks on the Joycons are surprisingly solid in 2D gameplay for what they are.

This is my preferred way to play it, even more than on the Pro Controller. It's fantastic.

I won't stop saying it, the Joycons are great for fighting games, it's like Nintendo knew.

after putting KoF 98 through the paces, i really really agree

can't wait for Pocket Rumble and any ports we get (hopefully IJ2, MK, MvCI, T7)

Would kill for a virtual fighter port. The single joycons are perfect for it.

Kinda hoping for some classic Tekkens and Capcom CPS myself. Would be great if we could get CotA or MSH what with Capcom being all chummy with Marvel of late.

Downloaded and played some World Heroes: Perfect yesterday. Played with the joy-cons in the grip and you know what? The d-buttons actually work pretty okay when trying to pull off special moves. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. I'll give the same setup a shot with USFII, though I'm pretty certain the pro controller will be my preferred input device for that game. We'll see what happens.

You're correct. The ROMs are the same between MVS and AES, but the console BIOS and pins of the carts are different.

So, how bad is the audio delay issue, really?

This is holding me back from buying literally every single title in this collection. I need to know how much of an issue it is!
