Washington Post: Secret meeting held to establish Trump-Putin back channel

As I missing something? The guy, scumbag though he may be, had no connection to the transition team or the campaign.

If this was in January after the election it also weakens the Trump is Putin's puppet narrative.

A secret meeting to establish a direct backchannel between Trump and Putin weakens the puppet narrative??

Why would they need a back door to the Kremlin, though? As far as I'm aware that direct line is still present in the Oval.

It literally says he was seen at the Trump transition offices in December. Given his sister was given a job and the other stuff coming out I think it's safe to say he's linked to the campaign, Russia and Trump.

He was a big donor to the campaign, was spotted at Trump Tower during transition, his sister was hand picked by Trump to be Education Sec. So not really "no connection"

As for the timing, secret meeting to setup secret back channel communications, which happened right after both the Dossier and IC's non-classified report came out.

If anything this strengthens the "narrative" as it shows attempts to continue the relationship despite a lot of things becoming public.

You still need a super secret backchannel to do things like hash out super complicated justifications for removing Russian sanctions.

Is this a big deal? Im thinking it isnt since this thread's moving way slower than last week's about that one dude who wanted immunity.

The fact it happened in January strengthens the narrative. Putin helping Trump become President was the Quid. After the election they would have to meet to negotiate the Pro Quo.

Also Prince has strong ties to the Trump Transition. He is a huge donor. His sister rode those donations to a cabinet position she is in now way qualified for and Prince was spotted multiple times in the transition offices. The only reason Prince wasn't working for Trump in a official capacity is because he was too toxic.

Yes. It is a big deal. The article indicates that this meeting is part of the FBI's investigation which gives us another clue as to it's scope. This backchannel would also provide more indications that there was a Quid Pro Quo relationship between Trump and Moscow. Also this tidbit about the man who set up the meeting is key:

WaPo said:
Current and former U.S. officials who have worked closely with Zayed, who is often referred to as MBZ, say it would be out of character for him to arrange the Jan. 11 meeting without getting a green light in advance from top aides to Trump and Putin, if not the leaders themselves. ”MBZ is very cautious," said an American businessman who knows Zayed. ”There had to be a nod."

The Flynn immunity thread moved faster because what was going on there was more immediately understood by anyone who's watched The Sopranos.

That's what I mean, if this is proven as go-between for the admin it was definitely for illicit, off the record shit. Tying it to Trump through blackwater is probably difficult though.

It's another piece of the puzzle that already have about a thousand moving pieces, but this one's pretty big.

Trump's Twitter attacks aren't going to do shit to dissuade the FBI investigation.

Not unless republicans are willing to fuck their own president over and cripple their 2020 chances.

The sooner they move on the better. Constant negative press isn't doing them any favors, or maybe it did with Donnie's campaign so I don't even know anymore. It's like half the country wants the president to be involved in treason and undermining the election for some reason.

Literally the next thing we'll be hearing is that trump did what he had to to beat Hillary (cheating and committing treason), so that's why he's smart, and good. The best.

Schiff said this outright about both Nunes and Trump. Their actions will not throw off the investigation.

They (the IC) know what's going on. I think by the time everything surfaces people are gunna be surprised at just how bad it is. That's my gut feeling

Spicey tomorrow: this just shows that the allegations of Russian interference and collusion are fake news. If the campaign was colluding with Russia it would not have needed to set up a back channel in January.

Somebody is working really hard to make Trump look as bad as possible. Whoever it is is a true American hero.

It could be one or a combination of these groups that he's made enemies of

1. Black People
2. Women
3. Democrats
4. The Majority of the American Public
5. Hispanic People
6. Muslims
7. Jewish People
8. The entire Judiciary Branch of the US Government
9. Scientists
10. Poor People
11. NATO
12. Scotland
13. Rosie O'Donelle
14. The US Military
15. Mexico
16. Germany
17. Australia
18. The International Intelligence Community
19. CNN
20. The New York Times
21. Speaker Paul Ryan
22. The Freedom Caucus
23. Veterans
24. Refugees
25. New York
26. The "Media"
27. His Staff
28. The State Department
29. The House Intel Committee
30. His own supporters

etc....

Just more Russian salad dressing.

Seriously it's like you can't even have a secret meeting on a remote island with the Russians anymore?

What the hell is wrong with these damn leakers?

This is obviously so fake it's absurd we even have to comment on this but the leakers definitely need to be caught and jailed!

Mine too - people are erring on the "Trump is a useful idiot" side but I reckon the reality of how low he'll actually go to fleece America for his own gain will blow minds. I'm intrigued by how deep all this stuff goes.

Lmao @ idgaf comment from Seychelles official
“I wouldn’t be surprised at all,” said Barry Faure, the Seychelles secretary of state for foreign affairs. “The Seychelles is the kind of place where you can have a good time away from the eyes of the media. That’s even printed in our tourism marketing. But I guess this time you smelled something.”

As far as I'm concerned, he's a useful political idiot who is very good at finding ways to exploit and corrupt systems for personal gain.

Even if he started as a useful idiot, once Russia had proof of his co-operation, they could use it as blackmail to force him to take other, more overt, actions.

Yep - he presents that larrikin image to his base and the cameras but I think he's dangerous snake and so arrogant he thinks he's above the law. We'll see what his involvement is but I think he's very much in on this stuff. The links are too strong, IMO.
