‘Fast and Furious’ Writer Chris Morgan Teases Han Seoul-Oh’s Possible Return

One of the biggest fan-favorite characters in the entire Fast & Furious franchise is Han Seoul-Oh, played by actor Sung Kang. The character died in Tokyo Drift, but he was such a hit with fans that writer Chris Morgan decided to alter the entire series’ timeline in order to incorporate him into more movies in the saga.

The franchise has since closed the loop and passed beyond Han’s death, but Morgan has hinted that there’s a chance we might see him again.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with Morgan about The Fate of the Furious, and while our full interview will be published next week, I wanted to pull out one particularly interesting piece of our conversation that I think will be of interest to Fast fans everywhere.

Are we ever going to loop back around in the timeline and see Han again?

Chris Morgan: “Now, that’s funny because I’ve actually been thinking about that a lot. So it’s interesting that you and I are on the same wavelength there. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out. I love Sung – he’s one of my favorite people on the planet.”

So is Han in Fast 9? Morgan’s response isn’t exactly a confirmation, but the fact that the franchise’s primary writer has been thinking about that character again is significant. And considering the pretzel twists in this saga’s timeline already, it certainly wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility to loop back around for another encounter with him. After all, the character already has a history even before the Fast and Furious franchise.

Johnny Tran as the F&F universe's Big Bad is all I want.

Nah, Lance and his snakeskin pants are. :)

I eagerly await the retcon where he crawls into a convenient manhole under his car to avoid the blast

Either that or just go full on stupid and bring him back cause why not

Wonder what they do to save him. He clearly died. Probably can't pull a Letty again so I'm down for time travel shenanigans
or superpowers
. The series has already jumped the gun right?

Letty already miraculously survived approximately the same death, so it isn't like they need to even do weird timeline stuff.

Of course.

Bringing Han back would be a two bird with one stone kind of thing.

-Han is back
-Statham can be apart of the family

Being that it looks like Statham's character is looking more like a "good" guy in this next film, I can see Han's character having survived the explosion so that Statham can comfortably transition to being part of the "family," as he would have technically not killed anyone in it.

Really, this franchise's biggest mistake was killing his character. I'd totally accept a retcon or an explanation for how he could have survived that blast.

What is the actual timeline? Fast and Furious, 2F2F, insert every movie that has come out, Tokyo Drift?

Or is there no actual timeline?

Time travel? I'm sure they've exceeded 88mph nearly every time they drive. Just need to get that flux capacitor in working order.

Then again, I suppose if you need more Han, you could always watch his origin story in Better Luck Tomorrow.
