WWE announcer John Bradshaw Layfield met with bullying accusations

I'm glad Mauro is leaving once his contract is up. The guy deserves better and WWE is stupid enough to let their best announcer walk to protect an asshole on the payroll.

Was going to basically post this. Mauro will be fine and is honestly probably too good for WWE anyway. He'll wash the Vince stink off him and continue to have a nice career elsewhere, I'm sure.

It's really WWE's loss. They're essentially losing their best announcer in order to protect and enable their worst. Who else but a bunch of Trumpy idiots like the McMahons would make such a poor decision?

Good call WWE!

Layfield is certainly a piece of shit, but the culture of hazing isn't just a WWE thing; it spans the entirety of professional wrestling. The hazing of "young boys" in Japan, for example, is equally, possibly even more, heinous. In New Japan, for example, a "young boy" named Hiromitsu Gompei was beaten so badly in the "NJPW Dojo" that he died as a result of literally being taken to Suplex City by Kensuke Sasaki. Current WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, who has spent time in Japan, recalls a story in which FMW "young boys" were not just beaten, but were forced to drink each other's semen.

Again, Layfield is absolutely a piece of shit. But the bigger problem is pro wrestling, and what a scummy, bottom of the barrel "industry" it is.

It's awesome that this story is getting traction but I don't think it's quite enough yet for it to get Vince to fire JBL.

Hopefully sponsors talk to them as well about this

Mauro when he started was a huge breath of fresh air with WWE's awful, robotic, insincere commentary but eventually Vince got him to mold more into what they like but still he was better than pretty much everyone else, fuck Vince and his out of touch senile ass. Fuck JBL for being a such a sack of shit and really he doesn't care if he loses his commentary gig since it isn't like he needs it. Stories of him have been around since yeah at least 15 years of his antics. There's ribbing and being good natured with it, there's being a kayfabe asshole and then there's just being an asshole.
Wrestling has been a mess since Edge cucked Matt Hardy.

That is the only crossover between wrestling and cuckoldry that I personally know of.
Ehh, that's not really a cuckhold sitation, John Morrison and Melina though, that was one and IIRC one of the reasons Morrison never really got a big singles push.

Wow is that real

Yup.

He disliked him for some reason from years prior, and so at ECW One Night Stand in 2005 in the midst of a planned big brawl between ECW wrestlers and main roster wrestlers JBL took advantage and beat the crap out of him for real, left him a bloody mess. You can see it happening on the show if you look.

JBL did pay for it on a later show however when Stevie Richards used a planned weapon spot to crack a chair over his head as hard as he could in retaliation.
Chairshot of Justice

Hopefully Gawker releases a hidden camera video of the bullying and then Wrestle GAF cheers when JBL wins millions of dollars for invasion of privacy.

There are many other cuckold situations in pro wrestling. Chris Candido letting "the boys" have unlimited shots at Tammy Sytch comes to mind. And fresh off of last week's Hall of Fame ceremony, Dallas Page letting his boss, Eric Bischoff, take extreme sexual liberties with his wife, Kimberly, resulted in a "push" that got him the world title.

Just an unbelievably scummy industry overall.

About time some mainstream media picked up on this story.

Coachman at ESPN literally decided to stop covering WWE altogether rather then cover this, gutless coward.

ESPN has still been silent on this but it's no surprise. Their wrestling coverage is solely a promotional deal with WWE.

Not justifying any of this, but to single out wrestling is disingenuous.
This has been something that has been happening in High School and College locker rooms for decades, moving to college and even the pros.
It is not about Wrestling, it is about Jock culture.

A couple of years before the WWE realized it would be good publicity to promote women wrestlers as being as equally talented and athletic as men, they went on a hiring spree for "divas" in which the idea was to have "toys for the boys," which means exactly what you think it means.

I'm guilty of watching professional wrestling too, but I think sometimes we need to realize what we are complicit in when we pay our $50 to be able to boo Roman Reigns or chant "you deserve it" every half hour.

Hold up is this DDP thing true? If so holy shit, never heard that.

Well, so much of the stories in pro wrestling tend to be apocryphal that it's almost impossible to confirm anything beyond a reasonable doubt.

But in aggregate, so much scummy stuff has happened in professional wrestling that stories like the one above are as easy to believe as the stories of, say, Chris Benoit forcing Shawn Daivari to do a thousand squats, debilitating him to the point where he was legitimately urinating blood the next day.

And yet Macho was a heel for protecting his wife from Lust Hogan

Fuck JBL and I hope this gets visibility enough so the guy is fired.

WWE has a terrible culture and while this won't solve it, it helps.

The best part about that Butterbean fight is that Butterbean OFFERED to make it a work and do the job, but Vince was adamant it will be a 100% shoot.

Didn't this guy get his ass whooped by Butterbean?

That was Bart Gunn, who whooped JBL's ass in the Tough Enough challenge.

I have one personal JBL story. This was way back right when he started partnering with Ron Simmons. I don't even think they were the ACA yet, just the Acolytes. Me and a buddy had went to try and get Angle's autograph for a friend of ours who, quite honestly, was in deep depression. He was a huge Angle fan, so we figured getting his autograph would cheer him up. It was also cool getting to meet some of the other wrestlers. So, we're in the lobby around 9:30 or so that night, the wrestlers start arriving, and in comes JBL, hammered beyond belief. We see Angle, and ask him for an autograph. He tells us, if we're willing to wait, he's going to go change, grab dinner, then he'll meet us down in the lobby and tells us he'll "hang with us for a bit" for waiting.

So, we're just hanging out, chatting here and there with some wrestlers (Jericho is fucking amazing in person btw), and down comes Layfield to get more drinks. He's making extremely lewd comments to any woman that walks by. He then zeroes in on us and asks us "What the fuck we're doing here." We tell him, and he goes "Your friend should just fucking end it. If you don't leave here right now, I'm gonna fucking end the two of you." We're in shock. Like jaw to the floor shocked. He turns away to head back to the bar. Right about then, Angle comes down, sees us, and heads over. he signs, we thank him, go to turn, and he asks why we're leaving. We didn't really get into it any further, just got out of there. Last we saw, JBL was over at the bar making the waitress uncomfortable.

So yeah, dude's a real piece of shit.

Locker is definitely less toxic now. Obviously all I have to go on are wrestlers stories, but by all accounts, the newer generation are a bunch of dorks that grew up playing video games and imitating the Rock and Austin. The generation before them that jbl is from was dominated by jocks like ex football players and amateur wrestlers. Guys who spent their whole lives in sports programs with dog eat dog ultra aggressive environments.
But countless stories about everyone from Rollins to Strauman to Zayn and Owens paints them all as a bunch of goofy nerds who like making stupid voices and cracking jokes with each other.

JBL is the worst, the Blue Meanie story makes a lot sense when you look back at it.

This is just the cherry on top but sadly, I think he'll stay because he's a Vince guy.

Speaking of assholes, is DeMott back in Developmental or is Albert still teaching?

I forgot who said it, maybe DDP or Hall but the new generation has more distractions. back then, wrestlers would get shitfaced, drugs or another shit that could cost them. Now? The hardest thing that got leaked was the sex tape thing and everyone kinda knew that was happening anyways.

Benoit had the shave the balls of the vets, on the other end NJPW and others probably aren't also actively promoting anti-bullying campaigns. I mean, look at DeMott, stories of his shit came out the second time and still WWE did nothing until it started to get picked up by legit news sources.

Old Guard: None of these people care, they're just cracking jokes and playing video games! In our day we were fucking every person we could and doing a line off of someone's ass!

Anyone wanting to hear just how ridiculous these dudes can be should listen to Jerichos podcasts with them. For instance I love Anderson and Gallows ridiculous but dead on Stone Cold impressions. When they riff off each other just right it sounds like Austin is arguing with his clone.
He has one with Rollins and Zayn that is pretty great too.

What he did to the Blue Meanie is right on video at ECW One Night Stand, during the brawl. Appalling stuff.

Yep. I didn't know much about JBL other than the rumors of him being a rough worker, until this. Watching it in slow mo and focusing on JBL / BLue Meanie is crazy.

He's a dick. Blue Meanie got shafted in the "settlement" deal too ... he took winning a PPV match (or title?) over suing the company for some reason.
