Media Create Sales: Week 14, 2017 (Apr 03 - Apr 09)

When I made my comments and predictions I still fully expected the March shipment to be larger than 2 million, that was based on comments Nintendo themselves made back in October:
Nintendo can up production of Switch launch shipment if demand is high

For all we know, they did ship more than 2 million world wide. Any additional increase would be pretty evenly distributed world wide and not amount to much in any one region.

Also here is the post I was referring too: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=231622752&postcount=635

I was expecting something along the lines of 80% attach rate for Zelda.
Still thinking it is going to be the Switchs first million seller and get there before MK8D drops.
Wonder how many people bought the Wii U version.

By selling around 650k in March and another 350k in April.

First being evenly distributed isn't a requirement - Nintendo could have easily chosen to service Japan with larger shipments. From a logistical and Q&A perspective it's also cheaper and more efficient to ship the additional allocation to Japan.
I think Nintendo were blowing smoke with the comments about upping production for the launch. Any additional units being produced were being saved for MK8D.

Is it safe to say that the Switch is not another WiiU yet? I mean, living here in Japan there is tangible excitement for this product totally unlike the WiiU. But is there some benchmark that people are waiting for? Or will it be more months of "too soon to tell"?
WiiU, PSV, PS4 all dipped under 20K (and much lower soon after) after 6th week.
Even 3DS quickly began to lose steam after a small time period (therefore Nintendo decision to heavily slash the console price).
If Switch can consistently sell more than 20K week after week it will surely perform better than WiiU.
But that's actually a low bar.
If Switch show sign of never dip lower than 30K (as bare minimum) then there is a good chance Japan have found a new market leading videogame system.

Finally, the long awaited PS4 Monster Hunter

Yeah there had to be someone

Came out last November. Second worst selling version of the game:

360 Monster Hunter Frontier Online: Beginner's Package 82.490 / 123.192 Capcom 6/24/2010
PS3 Monster Hunter Frontier G: Beginner's Package 24.053 / 42.595 Capcom 11/20/2013
WIU Monster Hunter Frontier G: Beginner's Package 2.945 / 4.911 Capcom 12/11/2013
PSV Monster Hunter Frontier G: Beginner's Package 22.892 / 31.229 Capcom 8/13/2014
PS4 Monster Hunter Frontier Z: Beginner's Package 8.663 / 8.663 Capcom 11/22/2016

Maybe the anniversary update adds Switch ... or just another expansion.

July is going to be one busy month this year.

Splatoon 2 and Dragon Quest XI are one week apart, and there's like 10 more other games between 3DS, PS4 and Switch.

Also Switch embracing the Vita.

July 21st for Splatoon in the west, I assume same in Japan? That one two of Splatoon 2 and DQ XI is gonna make the sales in Japan for those two weeks very interesting!

Welp, we got the dates.

About 3DS, I think a new Kirby is fine for late 2017 since they get to resue assets and the game will sell well enough.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
To my mind Nintendo has set things up pretty well up until Fall, especially in Japan:

Mario Kart- 4/28
Minecraft- 5/11 (digital)
ARMS- 6/16
Splatoon 7/21

This Direct really showed that third parties are going to try to get the Vita audience now too! As in more than Disgaea obviously.

So yep, not only did we get 3 new Japanese Switch games, but two at least were pretty surprising first timers for Nintendo hardware.

Senran Kagura isn't a shock, but we also got Fate/Extella by Marvelous/XSEED, and Nights of Azure 2 by Gust and KT.

As I thought, the assertions from some that PS4/Vita-centric franchises wouldn't come to Switch were a bit premature. Of course, it's still too early to tell exactly how much of that support will transition over, but the announcements in the JP Direct seem like a start.

Fate is the next Switch bomba tho, nearly 1 year old port for 8000 yen.

Senran Kagura sounds like a Summer Lesson type thing, so doubling hard on that.

Switch will absolutely gobble up most of the mid tier Japanese market.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Very solid - so much better than the first couple 3DS/WiiU months.

As long as any hardware sells it will get support. There isn't other alternative for Vita audience besides Switch.

Fate is the next Switch bomba tho, nearly 1 year old port for 8000 yen.

Those games have 0 legs, too. Makes me think it just exists so Marvelous can get their Musou clone engine on Switch for future SK games.

Well then, I guess that pretty much confirms Atelier Mysterious #3 will land on Switch whenever it releases.

I wonder if they'll continue with a final Vita port for that. And I honestly wonder if they'll cancel the Vita port of Nights of Azure 2, seeing how they made such a pigs ear of the first one and have an alternative portable version available now.

Very cool. Has gotten me a lot more interested in the Switch.

Can't see either Fate or NoA doing anything in terms of sales, but it's definitely gonna help with moving audience over.

I think 2P Minecraft is actually low key the most important announcement for long-term switch momentum that I wasn't expecting.

That has potential, a lot of it.

To my mind Nintendo has set things up pretty well up until Fall, especially in Japan:

Mario Kart- 4/28
Minecraft- 5/11 (digital)
ARMS- 6/16
Splatoon 7/21

There's been a two month gap between Zelda and Mario Kart and now there's another gap of two months between Mario Kart and ARMS. In terms of first party releases, I'm really not satisfied with Nintendo's line up. Especially since ARMS is still very much a wild card that could go either way.

They're lucky there's Minecraft to fill in the May gap, which hopefully will do decent enough.
