You'll get a 4k update for MCC as a way to celebrate H3's anniversary.

I would be perfectly ok with this.

We are definitely at the "talk is cheap" stage at the moment, but there's nothing that he can do about that right now. I will say that him comparing it to the platform/hardware strides they have made in the last few years definitely signals that they are serious about it, though.

You know if they don't want to invest so much in new games and value what they've released so far like BC titles, updating games would suit them and fixing MCC while they are at it would be great to see. Still shouldn't be left as it is. Shameful.

If Joe Staten isn't writing a secondary Halo game mistakes were made.

If Casey Hudson is only working on HoloLens for his entire tenure at Microsoft, additional mistakes were made.

Why is everyone being so hard on Phil?

I think he's the perfect executive to carefully manage the slow careful winding down of the Xbox business into obsolesce without spending too much company money.

His soothing tones and touching soundbites offer comfort and hope to Xbox owners everywhere. This will surely prevent people abandoning the platform too quickly while first and third party support slowly withers away due to budget cuts.

Don't listen to these people Phil, you're doing a great job... sunsetting the Xbox brand.

There's some explanatory power in this viewpoint. Stop chasing Sony. Stop buying exclusivity. Stop announcing games "so far out". Focus on fans. Mix brand with windows 10. Convert users to windows store. Work on features and services that could be transferred to windows later. Etc etc.

If they are over it and intent on letting it coast down, then they are making the right moves now. Still could take years and consoles will be gone sooner or later. So it's not that dramatic of a move.

They don't have story driven sp games, which going by this thread are the most important thing at the mo.

I don't think anyone is saying they're the most important, quotes suggest choosing not to compete at all in that space, which means an overall unbalanced portfolio which will be objectively less attractive to a large proportion of gamers

we'll see come a month from now.

Well that's something

Question becomes, are they smaller titles like Ori 2 or big AAA games like SSOD or Quantum Break?

Personally, I'd take a million Oris over QB, but that's just me. And there's nothing wrong with smaller games, but if that's only what they have for SP content I could understand why some would be disappointed.

This just in

Well that's something

Of course they are not "ditching" SP games, and they will still release SP-only games. Who seriously believed otherwise? The more important question is, how many, and how big will those games be? Because from this interview, it seems like their focus isn't on such games at all. And he did not say anything that makes me believe otherwise yet. He is just dancing around the issue, giving PR answers to softball questions.

This is my worry too.

I couldn't care less for multiplayer, so I'd like a great looking big budget title, with a great story.

I was interested in QB but the TV episode between levels killed it dead for me. But I guess that was a one off hangover from the TV TV TV vision, so I'd hope not to see that again.

So? Sequels aren't determined by how many years are in between. Halo 5 still feels very good to play. I wouldn't mind a late 2018 Halo 6.

I don't think anyone is expecting Halo 6 this year, like said above, announcement at E3, release late 2018.

You didn't know a follow-up to Ori is coming?

I'm curious what the scope of this game will be. Moon is still a small and independent studio, but there is a small but solid fanbase that has emerged around Ori since its release. Besides, it was also a successful financial venture, turning a profit in the first week and generating additional revenue via the Deluxe Edition, physical release, and merchandise. They might have the cache to up the ante, though I'm not sure what they'd do in that regard.

They need to bring back OG Xbox franchises - Crimson Skies, Blood Wake, and Mechassault. I guess they tried and failed with Phantom Dust. Gunvalkyrie might be another intriguing one to dig up.

They would be unique games in the marketplace if handled right.

Remedy did want the TV stuff, just suited the Microsoft vision at the time, it's an advancement of Max Payne story strips. I agree, it didn't work out and should have been dropped.

One of the big strengths of the original Ori for MS was that they let Moon make the game they wanted to make on their timetable & budget, thanks to it being a digital-focused title. No need to overbudget like MS has done with so many of their other publishing efforts. I'm personally really looking forward to seeing Moon's follow-up myself.

I'd love to see MS fund more small team creativity for SP games.

Same here. If they don't want to go all-in on SP games, at least pursue smaller, digital ventures that don't need a large return on investment.

Damage control? Did people think that MS wasn't going to make any SP games?

No, and that's the point. Probably nobody thought that. But he chose to answer that question, because it is a stupid easy question to answer.

Someone should ask him if Microsoft will focus more on "games as a service" over SP games. You probably won't get a clear answer on that one.

Playing Ryse again for free this month, really makes me wish MS has the balls to fund/purchase the IP for a fully fleshed out sequel especially to showcase Scorpio hardware.

Edit. Well I guess they did try according to some of y'all. Well I wish threw some money at them for a damn sequel lol.

For me, I really enjoyed the live episodes in QB. I think that they are altered based on in-game decisions was really great and the other thing is that the quality was really well done.

As someone whose list of goty titles are almost always single player.... where I have like 5 games this year that fit that. Phil, I want nothing to do with Xbox. Games as a service work for games that I care about more then most, but generally I would rather play a game and finish it and enjoy my time with it then feel like I bought a schedule.

I remember the rumors about a sequel and I think the name floating around was Ryse: Knights of England. What Crytek was able to do on a launch title, with not fully developed SDK, still having the Kinect resources not removed and all was simply amazing and for me it is still one of the most visually impressive games this gen so far...to imagine what Crytek could do on Scorpio would be mind blowing.

I think the fear is that SP games will be further pushed to the side in favor of service games, especially from first party.
I think what he's saying is the AAA big budget stuff would be service based. That's not to say they won't come with SP campaigns. Gears halo and Crackdown all have SP campaigns. But they would have MP segments built for longer tales

Then smaller budgeted games would be SP only. Your Ori's, recore's etc

A tweet from a random Twitter account with less than 7k followers from almost a year ago? I'm not saying it isn't true but this proves nothing.

I mean it's happening regardless of that Twitter's reliability.

Yeah, let's face it: The only way to get games like Horizon or BotW is to go AAA. Not necessarily that genre, but games of that scope. Nothing against indies of course, but you won't see games like that out of them.

They tried. Crytek said no.

How is this in any way worthy of this drive-by response? Because that's basically what Spencer is saying and what the entire thread is about.

This was the same twitter account that leaked Microsoft's entire conference from start to finish.

So I wouldn't write them off.
