Hamster Corp: ACA Neo Geo series on Switch surpasses 200k downloads worldwide

Switch seems to be moving software really well. Unlike the Wii U people are hungry for games.

Really positive stuff.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I could tell that something good was up with the neogeo games on switch, the constant effort to put them on their every week, the thread for it is always active to some degree, I myself have brought several with plans to buy more down the line.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
In addition to some Indie titles they are the ones benefiting the most from Switch having no VC at launch.

So about 14000 downloads per game on average? Sounds good for these kinds of games.
Do we have any comparison as to how Arcade Archives games are doing on other platforms? I'd expect them to do a little better on Switch just because there's not many games on the eShop in general yet.

That and Arcade games are a great fit for Switch multiplayer in Tabletop mode so those Neo Geo games benefit a lot from the Switch.

A good fit for the local multiplayer. The controls are somewhat weird sometimes but im having loads of fun with King of fighters on local multi.

Probably not. The balance is probably heavily biased towards the KoF and Metal Slug games.

But overall what I see in this achievement is that there is strong demand for local multiplayer games on the Switch, as expected.

Bomberman is certainly proof of that also (and 1-2 Switch).

You put up KOF, Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown & Neo Turf Masters and you've got a lot of my core Neo Geo down. Now get me Super Sidekicks, Soccer Brawl, Baseball Stars, Super Baseball 2020, that volleyball game, Garou and Neo Drift Out and I'll have everything I want (that I remember)

This is awesome. I'm glad they were able to find success, and I have a feeling it'll get better as time goes on. There are still a couple of games I need to pick up, too. Just wish money was unlimited. :(

How did Puyo do again?

Decently in Japan for a 3 year old port. It's now the 2nd highest selling version I think?

In EU it charted IIRC and it's split with PS4 is 74/26 in favor of Switch.

Edit: Here's a comparison with the current Switch total from Famitsu thanks to ZSaberLink:

3DS Puyo Puyo Tetris 42.096 104.044 SEGA 2/6/2014
SWI Puyo Puyo Tetris S 12.866 31.221 SEGA 3/3/2017
PS3 Puyo Puyo Tetris 11.863 24.570 SEGA 2/6/2014
PSV Puyo Puyo Tetris 9.739 14.745 SEGA 2/6/2014
WIU Puyo Puyo Tetris 5.232 8.673 SEGA 2/6/2014

The PS4 version never charted in Japan it seems.

This is honestly not that impressive, it will drop off a cliff in sales anyway once it has been sold to the NEO GEO core audience of 2 million. Frankly speaking, Switch gamers are starved for games and there was a huge draught going on in launch period so nothing to compete. Environmentalists will also crucify Nintendo due to their recent usage of air freighters to meet supply, further diminishing the impact this will all have. It's clear as day that these NEO GEO games won't have legs due to no AAA support on Nintendo consoles either.

Sounds good to me!

Hopefully they will continue to deliver content. I was quite happy to see that MS3 and 1 are still in the top selling games and were so for quite a while.
I still want to see Windjammers - one way or the other and I'd happily take an ACA release.

How is that not impressive? They don't have to program each game from scratch and most likely only optimize here and there. They managed to get a functioning pipeline with game releases every week early on. Customers honored that with adequate sales. These ports don't have to sell a million to be a success. 200k should already be really profitable for Hamster and more games are still coming.

Edit: Okay, apparently I got memed.

OK, that first sentence always gets me.

i mean......not to make excuse but there were hell lots more other ps4 high qualify AAA software competing for attention vis a vis the software library available for the systems you mentioned.

I am glad that the demand is there but why didn't they use the 4player versions? So much missed opportunity...

WiiU was actually pretty strong for *some* of its software. Look at the attach rates for Mario Kart for example.
Near launch software always benefits from the drought too. Let's see how it all pans out.

That's true but currently I believe Switch is moving a lot more software overall than Wii U did. It's attach ratio at launch is around 2 for Switch but was only 1.2 for Wii U.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

I missed a meme and nobody told me ;_;

Glad to see it being successful. Will definitely get more since I never had the fortune of playing many NG games as a kid.

Nothing higher quality than puyo puyo Tetris. Stop kidding yourself. Tetris is life, mate.

Jokes aside, I know I just wouldn't buy Tetris on a ps4 specifically. Nothing better than laying in bed and hopping online to battle it out on Tetris. Those matches can get long too lol.

Glad they are doing well, they are great instant action local co-op gems.

I had a couple on X1 but the Switch is so much more convenient to play quickly with friends.

From where does this meme come from?

Here:

it's not really that impressive. all the mario kart fans are going to buy this game anyway so sales are probably going to die down after the first 8 million or so. also, nintendo handhelds always do well so this is not that impressive. also, lots of games debut at #1 so it shouldn't shock people when another game does that.

The lack of games on the Switch could be the largest driver of this. I have one, but I'm pretty bored with it already, as I finished Zelda. I picked up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on a whim, but if you've played 8 it gets stale quick. As far as launches go, this has to be one of the worst in terms of available games.

They are awesome! Never thought my Switch would be my go to SNK machine but there it is. So far I have 7 titles from them and I want more!

Huh I have the complete opposite reaction to this launch, I am flooded with games to play right now on it. Zelda, Snake Pass, Graceful Explosion Machine, MK8, these Neo Geo games, and soon Disgea and Arms. Not bad for only a couple months into launch. A lot more than I played on my PS4 and XB1 at launch, at least personally.

That doesn't even count other Eshop games like Snipper Clips, Fast RMX, and Shovel Knight. So I am not sure why you think the "Switch has no games"

^ indeed. Add to that Puyo Puyo Tetris and Isaac and I'm having a hard time keeping up right now.

And that's how it's done without the sarcasm. lol

I can easily name quite a few systems that had a much worse launch lineup (or first month lineup) than the Switch has.

What 4 player versions? Off the top of my head only kizuna encounter had one via a breakout board to support extra controllers and I think League Bowling could be linked.
