Golden Week is going to be terrible (you can blame Nintendo for not shipping enough Switch).

The worst thing is that a weak golden week means catastrophic sales for the following week. Week 19 will be Japan doomed (as every year).

PS4 starting to lose ground against PS3. It's already close to crossing down again after that huge momentum from week ~140.

The Switch at some point will cross the early 3DS numbers. The true test will be those huge surge in 3DS sales. But at least launch aligned it's already the 2nd best, just got to keep that momentum.

Eek @ PS3 vs PS4 chart.

PS4closure stands no chance. It's going to really lag behind for the next months. And I honestly don't see it overtaking PS3 again anytime soon.

How can Sony, with all the third party support they have, lose momentum so often?

I guess they have lots of mid hits but no mega hit.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Has there been a release date announced for Nights of Azure 2? I remember it being delayed to a vague 2017, and I wonder if the Switch is getting it the same day...
I wonder how long the switch version was in development

My Nintendo Store sold out of Switch's in 10minutes today. Next shipment will be on May 11.

This is by far the fastest restock of units on Nintendo's site compared to the usual 7~10 days.

Hopefully a sign that increased production is finally making its way down the pipeline.

3DS Dragon Quest is disappointing on COMGnet, I'd think it would be doing far better than that.

NEETs have nothing better to do than wait at home and preorder things, however most people won't preorder, but instead pick it up when they see it at the store.

People are not stupid. They are waiting for the Switch version.

Total.

I want the Switch version to do well, but this is unlikely.

3ds also lost about a month worth of sales pre-price drop

so as long as switch sells a consistent 40-50k weekly, it will surely make up for those sales in no time if it isn't already ahead of it by that point

3ds will be easy cake anyway, true test will be vs gba/wii/ps2/ds

been waiting for this chart update all last week

PS4 DQ11 is surprisingly close to 3DS at this point.

It won't be a surprise for PS4 to cross 100 million units over how many years it takes to do that.

Out of the three titles you mentioned, two I find questionable for having potential to help the PS4 surpass 20 million in shipments this FY.

The last Gran Turismo game came out in 2013 which means it's been four years now if GTS comes out this year.

During that time Turn 10 released 4 Forza titles from 2013 to present.

According to NPD, Forza is the biggest racing franchise of the current console gen.

It wouldn't be a surprise if racing sim fans switched to PC/Xbox due to how long it takes to get a Gran Turismo game now.

For Spiderman, there's not much information at the moment, the Batman Arkham series showed that licensed superhero games can still be successful if they're not scheduled to be tied in with movies. The only thing I can see holding it back for PS4 Hardware sales is the likelihood that it is a single player game.

Forza games individually don't sell much, H3 being the only notable hit with 2.5 million. Compare that to GT6, late PS3 games that has sold near 6 million. The points you made can be made to the PS360, where GT5 released late, and managed to sell 10 million+. These games are incredibly popular in Europe (as is racing), though I don't expect GTS to do as well as GT5 since its more online focused.

There was a period in the 3DS life where it was considered the fastest-selling handheld. So beating the 3DS at its peak is still a tough challenge. If we're talking about total sales, about 23M sales LTD is still a long climb. Also, Wii only had around 12.75M in Japan so that's easier than the 3DS to beat.

jj984jj

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
hiska-kun, now that Switch only has the 3DS launch to beat (on that chart) can you add a difference column for 3DS - Switch?

If Nintendo can ship 70-75k Switches a week until Splatoon 2, I think they'll be fine.

They only just managed to do that for mario kart week. There is nothing to suggest they will have that much stock every week until splatoon 2. More importantly whilst demand is high, selling that much every week for that long during the slowest part of the year would be miraculous.

That's not going to happen. Even if they could ship that many units, sales are inevitably going to drop in the upcoming weeks.

40-50k is more reasonable.

Dengeki data is out, and they have much higher sales for MK8D: 355, 315 with 70% sell-through (that's 75k difference...). That's actually more than what they reported for MK8 (344k), and with -1 day (since MK8D launched on Friday, instead of Thursday for MK8).

Switch is close to Famitsu and MC with 78k.

I'll let ZSaberLink post the full SW and HW charts.

that would be a very ambitious shipment, I would love to see NCL be this ambitious

I think Splatoon2 can cover the demand for it.

does this tracker trend higher?

why don't we consider having a 3rd space for it under famitsu on the OP?

That's got nothing to do with ambition: they're already shipping everything they can. Current shortages are not due to Nintendo keeping stock in their warehouses for future use or anything.

There's no real trend: they're sometimes higher, sometime lower, but most of the time they're about the same as Famitsu/Media Create.
