Eiji Aonuma Promises Surprises For Next Zelda Title

It's going to be a tough job for Eiji Aonuma and the rest of The Legend of Zelda developers to top the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, that's exactly what the team will set out to achieve with the next game in the long running franchise. Japanese publication Nikkei Trendy recently caught up with The Legend of Zelda mastermind and you can read snippets of the interview, below.

On overseas reactions and thoughts of the series in the future...

"First of all I think the point that ‘this is a Zelda' is big. It's a series that has been continuing for a long time, if I am to put it in words then perhaps everyone would have thought it's not that simple to do a ‘reform'.

Furthermore, that reform causes a ‘surprise' to all our users who have played Zelda until now, since it exceeds their imaginations by a bit, and I think perhaps that's why they, including the media, have welcomed it with the ‘zeal'.

It's not an easy thing to be able to answer expectations of all our users, but through this game, I recognised again that the significance of continuing to create the series is right there, so in the future I'd like to repeat doing "great fusses*" and provide ‘surprises' that exceed everyone's expectations."

Close if old

I wonder what other gamers want in this new zelda?

For me it would be
- Dungeons more like alttp or oot, even make the small shrine dungeons more like real dungeons like you have in wow.
- More small hidden secrets, like a grave you can push or play a song to make something appears. Like in zelda alttp you have secrets that give you new abilities:
latest
I don't want to have everything almost from the start.
- More epic songs in dungeons like the battle with the elephant
- I miss the dark world like in alttp or oot
- Even make it more diffecult, so you're forced to earn more health to defeat to some boss or places.
- Weapon upgrades and possibility to repare special weopons.
- Underwater
- Ganon should not be a beast but more like in zelda1/alttp/oot "Human/beast" like

That would be a good change for me. But still open world, not linear.

All I ask for is more interior environments. Caves, dungeons, fortresses, castles, palaces, whatever. Otherwise, just keep doin' what you're doin', Zelda team.

Said this before but recall the rumors of delay right before release...

Is it conceivable Nintendo rather dramatically scaled things back to have a really substantial DLC?

The delay rumors were just about not getting the translations for Europe done in time. I doubt they held back a ton for DLC.

Twin links whose dad is a previous link. Son and daughter going on an adventure to save their dad and also the world. Implement coop if you want. Permanent companion.

Can I play as a Zora?
I want to play as a Zora.

Hey Eiji, lemme play as a Zora.

You now compete with another Link to clear dungeons, help people and be the hero. Except you can't kill him because then you're seen as siding with evil.

Really, I just want them to re-use all the Breath of the Wild models and just reshape the world and then go back to having more traditional dungeons but still with the emphasis that you can do any of them at any time. Just make it take the Mega Man route and have things just be easier/allow you to take different routes if you have already gained a particular item from another dungeon.

Simple sandbox online co-op fuckaround mode ala GTA, please.

No save points, you have to beat the game in one sitting or leave the console on with your link hidden where no one will attack,

It's a shame all the big video game reviewers just praised the game instead of criticising it. Now Aonuma probably thinks it's okay to have lacking dungeons, weapon breaking, and very little story. I wonder if Aonuma even recognises these flaws or is aware a lot of people feel disappointed with the dungeons and narrative.

BotW feels like the Xenoblade X/MGSV of the Zelda series.

SS has like a 93% on metacritic and they drastically changed the series after listening to feedback.

As long as they abandon long, tedious sequences in walled-off areas (wich you can't leave and never revisit again) that just exist to pad out the game and otherwise don't fit into the game or function as tutorial sequences that explain stuff as if you were a brain damaged Orang-Utan, then I'm fine.

I'd love to see them take some more inspiration from A Link Between Worlds for the next title.

So copy and paste ALTTP over again? No thanks, this game has brought absolutely nothing for the series. That's worse than suggesting the next Mario to take inspiration from NSMB

weapons breaking is not a flaw, it's a core part of the gameplay loops and works great.

Lol you're still on this huh...

Either way, I guess we're gonna act like we didn't get here coming off of Skyward Sword? Clearly shows that they listen to feedback, no reason to think they won't continue to do so for the next title.

Legend of Zelda, A Link's End?

Legend of Zelda, this is what Link will do if Zelda is the new main protagonist?

Legend of Zelda, Red Ganon Redemption?
