Scorpio, does it launch in time for Destiny 2? (and if not that will really suck)

Oh wait you were being serious?

You actually really think Scorpio is launching in JUNE?

The only reason to hold back would be supply constraints or a more favorable release window (like holidays, which they'll still be able to sell-through). With the rumors of a potential PS5 in 2018, sitting on product seems odd to me. The Switch just launched in March, and in many countries people with disposable income have the summer off.

The S launched in what, early August?

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
It will be just like PS4 and Xbox One launch. It wont launch with any 3rd party games. But all big titles would have released by then and will be ready to purchase when you buy Scorpio.

I don't think the XBOX One S counts at all you guys, lol. It was just another XBOX One. Nothing new. The Scorpio will launch in October/November, MS said the holiday of 2017. I wouldn't get my hopes up until they start talking about the system without mentioning that release period and there's not really any time left

Scorpio should launch late August/Early September It's a crazy goal but I think it should get out in front of those fall releases. Give people a reason to pick it up so they can play the best fall multi-platform games on the most powerful hardware.

PS4 Pro, which is doing the same thing for a brand, launched to extremely little fanfare. There were rumors it would hit 2017, then a month before it released (October) it was announced at a conference in New York IIRC. Not at Gamescom. Not at CES. Not at E3. It just stealthed its way into our living rooms.

You realize they just finalized dev kits like 2 months ago right? There's not a chance in hell they'll have the console stock needed to launch June 11th and even if they did there's no reason to launch that early without these little things called GAMES. MS will be lucky to have the convincing 4K lineup they need in Nov much less 3 weeks from now lol. They also need big Fall/winter 3rd party releases running in 4K to give people a reason to buy this thing..launching in June is one of the worst ideas ever.

Also see Sega Saturn.

Is there even any reliable rumours for the PS5 releasing nexy year? All I've seen was a analyst said he thinks it will in a off hand comment.

Anyway MS can't afford to give it a half arsed release, a Holiday release would give them a lot of time to really start marketing it after E3 and let everyone know it coming and give devs more time to have stuff ready for launch.

It didn't stealthily come out at all. It was leaked and talked about to hell at the beginning of last year all the way up to E3 when House acknowledged it's existence all nonchalantly. Don't get me wrong, I'd shit my pants if MS somehow put Scorpio out super early, but there is no evidence pointing to such a thing happening. Everyone is just talking about how cool it'd be without looking at it from a business or marketing perspective.

E3 is going to be our real first introduction to the console and between all the info they dump and a supposed early launch, never mind the games they talk about, it just doesn't makes sense to blow their load for the whole year in terms of releases. Lots of big games and new consoles come out in the holidays for a reason!

Scorpio is "just another Xbox One", but with beefed up hardware. It's not a new gen.

It's not totally unfeasable, both Xbox 360 and Xbox One have components dated as being manufactured in between august-October , and they both released in November.

They said holiday originally but Phil has gone on record saying that they're ahead of schedule. I'm thinking that the whole "holiday 2017" line was meant to be the latest possible time they could release.

I'd agree with you here if Project Scorpio had any exclusive content, but it doesn't. The games we'll play on Scorpio will be the exact same game you'd use on your Xbox One. I'm not saying it's impossible for it to launch later than August/September, I just think it'd be a wasteful move on Microsoft's part. Software and services make them their money here, not hardware. There's literally no reason to make people wait on buying the hardware.

It's possible if they go the multiple SKU route like they did with the 1S.

An expensive bundle in September to target the 'day one' people, then a standard SKU in the usual November for everyone else.

That's the approach I think they'll take, albeit moved up quite a bit. In the US there was only a few weeks between the "launch" bundle and the standard SKU of the One S. In Europe it was apparently a little over a month.

I can see them doing that actually, maybe even throw in an Elite Controller for the expensive bundle.

There is no reason to have Destiny 2 on something else than PS4/Pro because of two reasons, the biggest community will be on PS4, and the stupid exclusive content that last an eternity.

Native 4K Destiny? I'll take that over exclusive content and a "bigger community"....

Am I wrong ? l

Yes, you're wrong. There is a legitimate reason to prefer FPS games on PC, particularly if the console versions of D2 remain 30 fps. Uncapped fps and res, and M/KB are game changers.

You guys are delisional if you think this is coming before October at the earliest.

I'm not sure what it is about Scorpio that makes people get crazy over the top ideas in their head repeatedly. First it was the specs fantasies and now it's the price and release date.

As others have started, I really hope they can get Scorpio out the same day. I have a great gaming PC and a Pro, but I really want D2 on Scorpio as the majority of my FPS console friends are on Xbox. If Scorpio doesnt release at the same time I'll probably end up getting D2 on the Pro just to actually utizile my 4k HDR TV. At least have the Scorpio release within a few weeks, rather than months. With Phil saying they are ahead of schedule heres hoping.

Won't play this on PC because even if BattlEye is used this game (especially Trials) will attract so many hackers. Be CS all over again!

Well due to the way the Scorpio is, will it not improve the picture and frame rate anyway with supersampling etc?

I'm not sure they'd need to actually do a Scorpio update for it to run better.
I assume that it would only work that way if it is like battlefield 1 with a variable resolution and framerate.

Again, nothing about PS4, PS4 Pro and PC.

SOLELY about whether or not MS pushes Scorpio for September launch.

Im not playing on PC, I'm only playing on Xbox One, I'm not worried about an inferior experience, I just (yes first world problem, dont know why the fuck that matters) am hoping to experience D2 for the first time in the best possible light

After realizing that Middle Earth, FIFA, Madden, Forza, and quite a few more games release in Aug-Sep I now believe they will have it out in time for those because it makes sense to capitalize on multiplatform sales.

Releasing in August doesnt mean they are going to sell out by christmas, thats a ridiculous notion. As much as I hope for their success, I dont see it being a thing that is such a world beater it completely sells out, its still a niche product

Totally comparable. One is the essential relaunch of a system and the other is just a slim model.

Later is certainly not out of the question.

It depends really what MS wants. A quick release or wait for the holidays.

Even Forza usually releases in September does it not, probably the same for F7. So it might be they want it on the market in time for their own games too.

Yep, both will have huge player bases so you will not be hindered from finding games / teaming up with people, there's a threshold these games reach that'll provide a consistent experience no matter how much larger one player base is over the other.

This is also a great point! My primary rationale behind expecting an earlier release is just based on software. New console generations have the benefit of bringing exclusive titles alongside "ports" of games from the previous system. Scorpio shares a library with Xbox One, so Microsoft really doesn't benefit from releasing the hardware after the major fall releases. The sooner they can get people into the new hardware, the more they stand to gain in software sales.

No. You are probably right.

The game will be the same across Scorpio and Pro just like it was the same across XB1 and PS4.

The bigger userbase will be on PS4 because Destiny is already way bigger on PS4 than XB1 and PS4 has strike, weapons, maps and gears exclusives for at least one year.

Possible? Sure.
But price is key for scorpios success. It needs to be as cheap as possible. Launching it with a premium on top will quickly kill of the hype.

First week of September, 4TB model for 499, then the last week of September 2TB and 1TB models for 449,- and 399,- respectively.

You're not wrong but also not completely right. There are legitimate reasons such as performance and increased visuals that may make someone play at a different platform. While there are also people who would like the complete content of the game who chooses Sony.

Friends are also a good reason but either way there is no absolute.

Does Microsoft have a similar restriction as Sony that no multiplayer game can be 30fps on the base model and 60fps on the Pro?

Would be nice if they went different routes and let the consumers decide what's best for everyone.
