Thumper on Switch is 60fps and features redone camera for portable mode

Should be out in Europe within the next minute.

Maxed volume on the Switch with headphones is really shitty damn :|

Was not expecting this ughhhhhhhhh

Hm, I didn't have any trouble hearing level 2 while playing on a loud moving train, that's a shame. Maybe it's my earphones which help?

Maybe it's your headset ?
One of mines (an AKG) wants too much power to get a good enough volume level with most devices, but every other headset outputs a "normal" level even on Switch.

I actually just ordered a tiny Fiio A1 headphone amp to add some boost to my PSVR and Switch headphone outputs.

Ehhh i guess that would help, but i can't stand any extra gadget attached to my portables, it kills it for me

...i'll try the other heaphones i have laying around the house, if not i might just for the PC version

Maybe look to buy some low-impedence headphones.

I have a question that directly relates to Thumper but also other games that appear on the Japanese eShop. Since it's proven now that if you buy the Japanese version of a game, it also means you buy the American one as well, and vice versa, wouldn't it make sense to just buy the Japanese one that's already available, and actually a bit cheaper (since 1,999 yen translates to roughly 17 bucks) or is buying the Japanese versions of games not easy?

God damn, I have the wrong gaming habits. Before i even went on to level two i did S rank on the entirety of level 1. This is not going to work on later levels i can already tell. but god is it fun.

I can't believe Thumper is already handheld. This game is gonna get even more playtime.

Its got the graphics, intensity, HD rumble and most importantly THE VOLUME.

So good.

S Rank is attainable with just no damage and hitting all the blue ground thumps/notes. Restarting a checkpoint to get the S Rank is no problem either.

Don't worry about perfect turns and high scores unless you want to climb leaderboards or to try and make up for a missed thump/note.

To add to the OP, Drool had some words to say about the port beyond the redone camera. They appeared in this piece about digital publishing on Switch from MCV UK: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/remade-reborn-how-nintendo-s-fixing-digital-for-switch/0181749

For Drool, who’s bringing its ‘rhythm violence’ game Thumper to Switch later this year, Nintendo approached the studio while they were over in Japan.

“I met some nice people from Nintendo at [the Kyoto-based indie game festival] Bit Summit last year,” says the studio’s co-founder Marc Flury. “I was showing Thumper and they were interested in bringing the game to their new platform. In particular, they thought Thumper could work well with the HD Rumble. We were all excited to start working together.”

Even developers using their own custom engines have felt the benefit, with Sauter saying it simply took “a matter of weeks” to get Fast RMX running: “We also made sure all the Switch’s controller configurations work nicely with our game,” he adds. “Fast RMX is the perfect game to show off the Switch. It’s a showcase for [its] graphical power.”

Admittedly, Flury says that porting Thumper’s custom engine “was a lot of work” for him as the studio’s sole programmer, resulting in a brand-new shader just for the Switch version, but in the end his experience was a positive one.

“Fortunately, the hardware is capable and the tools and support have been top-notch,” he says. “As soon as we got the game running on Switch, I wanted to curl up in bed and play it. We’re excited to bring the game to a mobile platform. With the Switch, we can make it portable without sacrificing any of the visual or gameplay quality.”

Ended up buying the game anyway, there's a slider in the Audio menu wich actually boosts the volume

Now it's actually fine, sounds great on my Phiaton

Ohhh good to know thanks! Though its really satisfying to stay in the air using a perfect turn and the ground pounding the green ones for that extra visual impact. This game...I managed to S rank level 2 as well but then decided to just try to get through 3 without dying once because that continuing rush is something else... Endboss told me no. xD Also yeah, HD rumble is legit.

Yeah turning up the in game audio did the trick.

Get Inside Her!
Just played the first level handheld. This is definitely gonna need my tv and sound system.

Also split-joycon style, to maximize rumble effect.

Wayyy too low, my S8 at 1/3 of the volume is louder than the Switch maxed

No idea, i have a pair of Phiaton MS 400

I just got home and booted the game, I see that the volume is set to 2/8 by default in the game settings, is yours set to max ?

Wow, this game is awesome!

First attempt at Lvl 1 - 38,850
2nd attempt at Lvl 1 -129,450

Ranked 191 global right now.

The music is awesome and the visuals are top notch.

HD Rumble feels so good in this. Especially in Boss fights wenn you send the glowing... thing back and you feel it travel up the track.

I just started this... Got up through 1-9, just trying it out.

Not a pro at it by any means, but I'm REALLY liking it so far!

It also has one of the prettiest title screens, like, ever.

Also note: In Options, under Audio, you can pump up the sound. I recommend it!

Though the gameplay is quite different, this is filling that same spot in my gamer soul that Rez filled. I love it to bits, and I'm taking my Switch to bed for the first time in a while.

God, this looks and feels so good in handheld mode. The HD rumble really feels like an enhancement here. The beat-tiles that act like projectiles feel like you're hadoukening them out of your hands.
Yeah, I didn't consciously note it at first, but I was feeling incredibly tense after each beat-tile and counterattack, and I was wondering why. Then I realized, the HD Rumble was combining with the sound and visuals onscreen to heighten the impact. Like, when you grind along walls it really conveys a gravelly sort of friction. It adds this tactile quality that's subtle but impressive.

I've only played it in TV Mode, though, using a Pro Controller. The HD Rumble is still good, but I imagine it's even better with the Joy-Cons.

Also, insane screenshots, dude!

For people who have also played the PC version, which one would you recommend? I won't take the Switch outside of my house (unless going to a friend's), but I may want to play in bed from time to time.

No VR ? From the Digital Foundry thread it sounds like it depends on whether you want more effects/generally better graphics or the (apparently good) HD rumble and handheld possibility.
Quick pic to show the difference in effects between PS4 and Switch to give you an idea :

Just picked this up after work and was able to play the first level before going out. Quick Q: is it advantageous to always hold A? I get slamming onto the lights in the track but it seems like holding A speeds you up and would mean you are always ready for turns.

I S ranked but used the checkpoints to repeat a few spots, but on the leaderboards some people have higher scores by a lot, yet less rank, any reason?

You guys should be posting in the portable screenshots thread(!)

I want to but because I was the last one who posted in that thread, I need to wait lol.

I'm going to take a few more shots in a few.

Now that I'm more familiar with the game, I'll be going back to Level 1. I'm a fan of leaderboards so I'm hoping to climb :D

Enjoy the game, guys!!
