Wonder Woman Review thread

How do you kill Wonder Woman? Do bullets just bounce off her like Captain America or is it always the arm band that does it?

Man, Thor 2 isn't even the worst Marvel movie.

Y'all could at least shit on Iron Man 2, which kind of deserves it, instead of Thor the Dark World which is just forgettable.

Had a friend tell me recently that rewatching Iron Man 2 in 2017 actually helps that movie out, as a lot of the weird digressions and storytelling dead-ends now seem to make way more sense and feel a little more natural considering how filled out the rest of the universe has gotten sense.

Basically, the burden of all that set-up is finally lessened a little.

...I'm not inclined to see if he's right, myself, but that's what I've heard.

The first Thor isn't solid anything. It's raging explosive diarrhea put to film.

Oh please no MCU film has been BAD. There's been a couple C- films or cliche ones like Thor 2 and iron man 2 or Incredible Hulk or cap 1 but they're all watchable without getting pissed. At least for most people that's the case

Nah

I dig it when scores can go more electronic (?) for what's typically expected to be an orchestral score. Something like Fury back in the day would've been more orchestral, but Steven Price did more to it and I think it totally has its place in period pieces.

It sounds like utter noise to me when I actually listen to it, and I don't mind experimentation, I just don't find anything especially great about the use of electronics in the Wonder Woman theme or even the BVS score.

For me it's traditional orchestral music all the way.

Cap 1 is not C-. What nonsense.

Eh

Agree to disagree.

In seriousness she is resistant to blunt attacks but weak to pierce and cutting ones

It's my least favorite personally. Well either that or Incredible Hulk. I find RDJ as tony stark enjoyable any time and the cast of Thor as a whole keep me from hating too much plus the portal fight was one of my favorite ending battles

Wait, the Wonder Woman score is out already?

Gotta go check that out.

Yeah it's like a D. last C- movie Joe Johnston made was prolly in the 90s.

Speaking of weird Film-GAF narratives, the notion that Joe Johnston is a subpar director (while Martin Campbell is apparently one of the greats) has never made sense to me.

Captain America introduced us to Cap, Bucky, and Peggy. It also has Tommy Lee Jones in it and a weird CG Chris Evans.

That's gotta be worth a few points.

i'm so glad i never know any of the youtube people anyone talk about in any thread

I know a couple. They honestly aren't that bad, but the mania around them is weird.

I think the appeal of youtube folk is that it's esstentially like talking to that one friend you have that's seen every movie. They aren't the people you generally go to for hard analysis on film; but they're more approachable than a lot of other critics out there.

Of course, that's what makes separating their opinions from "fans" and placing them on a higher tier so amusing. Their whole appeal is that they're just regular folks offering more relatable opinions than the "hoity toity film snobs" we usually associate with film criticism. There isn't much Jeremy Jahns, RLM, Doug Walker, or the Double Toasted guys (to name a few) can or will say about a film that I can't hear from just hanging out with my friends or posting on Gaf.

And that's okay. That's, like, the whole point. But as expected, these people have cultivated fanbases that take their opinions waaaayyyyy too seriously.

To me Wonder Woman's theme should sound more mythological and epic, not like classic but good Zimmer trailer music, especially when the film is set in WWI.

I'm not sure what mythological music sounds like but if this isn't epic than I don't know what is: https://youtu.be/chC-nTLh6aA

Sounds fucking great to me. Is this Rupert Gregson-Williams' first score? His father's work with Zimmer on The Rock is still my favorite action movie score of all-time.

Why would anyone look forward to an RLM review of the first female-led superhero movie in ages? Not really desperate to hear two middle-age dorks say "Diversity's a corporate conspiracy that kids don't even care about" for an hour and a half.

Why would anyone waste one second on any Red Letter Media content, period? It's steaming donkey diarrhea and always has been.

I think dr strange might be my least favorite marvel movie. Literally the only thing I remember from that film is "dormmamu, I've come to bargain"

At least Thor 2 had Loki being awesome throughout.

Martin Campbell aint so hot either. but he made Zorro AND particularly Casino Royale. two movies Johnston's wack filmography will never aspire to be as good as

subpar is being kind. but I understand we divert quite a ways on this guy.

The first Thor is BAD. The script is shit, the cinematography is terrible, the art and environments are completely uninspired, the acting would be better if I got a bunch of high school theater students to stand in, the story is engagingly fucking convenient and stupid. It's almost unwatchable for me.

As I said, I haven't seen Thor 2 because I fear what a worse movie would even be like. Captain 1 is one of my favorites in the entire MCU. Probably second to GotG. Iron Man 2 is pretty bland but I really didn't like Iron Man 1 either though. Hulk is insanely underrated.

I remember Benedict Cabbagepatch and his plight of being an amazing asshole who broke his hands and discovered how to turn the world into a kaleidoscope, plus Mads Mikkelson and his fabulous eyelashes.

So we're somehow going to surpass 10 pages before the embargo even lifts. DCEU review threads are essentially the E3 threads of off-topic.

Anyways, got my eyes set on a nice 90% RT
Absolutely. All they have to do is like it, not love it.

I thought the magic and the visuals of Doctor Strange were cool. Just wish those visuals came with a story I gave a damn about.

Could've used more of the magic seen in the trippy sequence too. The kaleidoscope effect got old a bit fast and the magical fisticuffs were really blah.

Should've been a more experimental big budget movie but hey, what's done is done.

For real though, that gif is climbing the ladder to all-timer status

And how much you wanna bet the 90s movie Disco is referencing is either Jumanji or fuckin' Small Soldiers.
