Best and Worst Evil Versions of Main Characters (Spoilers)

I'm thinking this is your vote for the worst since you followed up with Zoom.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer S3
Vampire Willow is pretty great.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S4
The Doctor was also fucking fantastic. In fact, all of the Hydra World alternates were amazing, but him and Coulson in particular were dope.

Also, Supernatural S10
Demon Dean was fucking awful. Just Dean with no inhibitions. Super boring.

I wasn't too big of a fan of Once Upon a Time S4's "Heroes & Villains" world. It seemed like character swaps for the sake of it, aside from Gold. That I bought 100%.

My big thing is that, ultimately, I feel like an alternate version of the character done well is when you believe 100% that if one little thing happened, that this character would do this. But it's still that character in the end. That's what makes it horrifying when an evil version of a hero shows up.

I dunno if that really counts. He's not an alternate Wally, or even an alternate Flash. He just wears the Reverse Flash outfit, but uses Zoom as the moniker. Otherwise he's a completely different person with a completely different power set.

Right? Or am I wrong on that?

Maybe bending things working with parts of an ensemble, but...

Best: Dark Beast. The Age of Apocalypse version of Beast who's a completely amoral genetic researcher and revels in it. I love how he's just super chill about being an evil dick a lot of the time, kind of the fun guy the regular Beast used to be, just twisted.

Ultraman is great. He's powered by Kryptonite instead of depowered. He's depowered and harmed by yellow sunlight.

He also went to hell. Or HFIL.

Plus a bunch of other villains go to 'heaven' in that series.

Goku literally felt into hell by accident, not because he deserved to.

Also, only Dabura was a villian sent to heaven, because from his perspective that was hell to him.

Yeah, I was gonna say, does Superboy Prime count? I mean, he is his own character that turned evil rather than an alternate evil Superman, even though he is an alternate superman.
I mostly add him for the whinig but this thread have alternate universe and he is Superman just one from our earth

I kid, I kid.
Kind of.

Actually, I do think he genuinely qualifies as an evil Batman, at least for the first 2/3's of the movie. It's just whether that's a good thing is a matter of whether you like having an evil batman or have good taste.

Honestly, I feel like I get what Snyder was going for but trying to sell Batman v Superman as a hero vs hero movie like Civil War was the wrong way to go with things. If you're going with a Batman that brands prisoners, kills people, carries vendettas against people he's never met, etc, you gotta frame it as "Batman's become a villain, Superman has punch and/or inspire him to be a hero again".

Best, Vampire Willow. She's so evil, and skanky, and kinda gay. As Willow's evil opposite, Evil Willow led life to the evil fullest, which included riding people like ponies, BDSM, and being more honest about her own sexuality, which must gotten the real Willow thinking. Fighting an alternate reality vampire version of yourself makes for an unusual coming out story.

Runner up, NegaScott from the Scott Pilgrim movie. Since Scott Pilgrim is already a dick, for him NegaScott just seems like "a really nice guy." Yes, the comic version is more meaningful, but I like the dumb movie version.

Worst, evil Superman from the Snyderverse. This mopey, murderous, uncaring Superman uses much more force than necessary and causes more destruction than he stops. He has a super-cliched origin story, too, simply being raised by an evil Jonathan Kent who taught him to hate and fear and hide his gift instead of love and share.

Runner up. Any evil Clark Kent from Smallville. Any time the writers got too close to allowing Clark happiness, they'd have Clark get hit with red K or possessed or have an alternate version of him like Clark Luthor come to town to cause mayhem and force things back to the unhappy status quo without making the real Clark look bad. And thus they kept a simple story going for 10 seasons.

My nomination for worst is Evil Ryu. It's just a version of the protagonist who screams more & enjoys killing. That said, the conflict between Ryu & Akuma's cool, & Evil Ryu's just a "what-if" where the conflict ends the way Akuma wants it to.

Wonder if this is where Rick and Morty got it from

Oh yeah. I mean, all the Ricks are asshole-ish at best except Doofus Rick, & we still know little about him, but Eyepatch Morty was pretty cool. He'll definitely be cooler if they validate that theory where
he's Morty C-137, & the universe our Morty was originally from was just one Rick C-137 slipped into. That'd be interesting to see play out.

The "evil" version of Joker is the righteous Red Hood, a man intentionally dunked in chemicals by owlman, whose sanity was bent, but not broken. A fantastic character from one of the best episodes of brace and the bold.
BATB10.jpg

This is Daniel West, the reverse flash of new 52. He's an absolute dumpster fire of a character whose main motivation is to use his flash powers to kill people and time travel because his dad beat him as a kid. Terrible design and character that I'm glad is gone.

That's because unlike the movie and the game, Nega Scott in the comics was the good guy, Scott didn't want to face all the bad, shitty things he did, Nega Scott wanted him to face the concequences of his shitty actions, that's why the mature thing was to allow nega Scott be part of Scott again, that's the part where Scott stops being an asshole.

Regular Scott is the evil one.

I actually wanted to make a thread about how different media portray the same characters based on the premise of the 3 versions of Scott pilgrim.

In the movie Scott doesn't learn jackshit, he wins by "the power of self respect", which means he still is a selfish bastard who only thinks about himself.

If you beat the final boss as Scott in the game it doesn't give you the happy ending, it gives you an ending where scott is a selfish bastard and got himself a harem of girls much like Gideon was doing in the comics, you need to beat the game as Ramona to get the happy ending.

It's only in the comics where Scott actually gets his shit together and stops being an irresponsible selfish manchild, that's why in the comics his second sword is "the power of understanding", because he has come to terms with how shitty he had been all along and finally is on the path to be a better person.

Great post. Movie Scott also leaves Knives at the end even though that's the one universe where their relationship might have worked if Scott had been just a bit more mature. I know they put in a "Go get her" sacrifice line for Knives but that's just proof that she cares about him more than he does her.

was more talking about the council but Rick is just as an asshole besides his care for morty they had a scale where he was middle of the road in evil.

You know, I've been thinking lately about if there was an alternate modern day reboot of Spider-Man's origin, he would likely have been an altright edgelord. High school Peter Parker ticks all the boxes for the kind of demographic they swoop up. Geeky white teenager shunned by his peers and no luck with romantic pursuits.

As Spider-Man he'd probably spend more time doing stuff like interrupting and disparaging BLM protests, and whining on his youtube channel over how the lamestream fake news Daily Bugle calls him out on his bullshit.

Best: Warrior of darkness from FFXIV
wod2.jpg

Thought they were going to just be dumb jobbers who would be cartoonishly evil. Boy was I wrong. Way more depth than I anticipated.
Esteem from the dark knight quests is great too. I was anticipating some sort of inner battle segment, but the idea of the "dark" you actually
being the part that's sick and fucking tired of stopping to help every random passerby and stranger with a problem without ever being even remotely catering to your own needs or being selfish and always altruistic
was pretty cool.
Worst: Oblivion

Ugh. Origin was kinda cool in theory but was just tryhard and forgettable.

COOPLEGANGER from Twin Peaks: The Return is best

tumblr_oqgu2yDFyl1rqawt2o1_500.gif

so good. that moment when you see that first person perspective of him driving with the slowed down music. and then you're wondering who's in the car and you see Cooper for the first time in 25 years with this trashy looking wig haha.

and then he subsequently ends up being a terrifying character.

Back in HS I actually had an idea for a new Spider-Man origin where Peter is exactly like that as a teen and first getting the powers but snaps out of it and becomes the Spidey we all love after Uncle Ben dies.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

The way that all three properties handle Nega Scott is brilliant and goes to show how minor differences change so much.

Also in the game, Scott's ending says that while he has his harem, he's secretly unhappy. Really another reason why Ramona is Scott's soul mate hehehehe

Though it was mentioned, it's worth saying again: Goatee Spock is not evil.

One of the worst evil versions comes from My Little Pony, or rather, Equestria Girls. The main character, Twilight Sparkle, was the personal student of Princess Celestia, who taught her powerful magic. The first Equestria Girls movie introduces Sunset Shimmer, who was Celestia's student before Twilight, is skilled at magic, and has a synonymous name. So you would expect the movie to play into their shared history, and have them match magic against magic. Except it doesn't. The movie involves Twilight following Sunset to an alternate reality where everyone is a human, and where Sunset rules... a high school as a bully. Her being Celestia's student never comes up again, and they don't use magic for most of the movie, until Sunset uses gibberish to turn into a demon, and then the heroes almost instantly beat her.

Granted, Sunset does become a pretty likable character in the later Equestria Girls stories, but they do this by basically abandoning everything established in the first movie. Still, it's such a shame that they wasted the "evil previous student of the main character's mentor" cliche on such a story. Imagine a world where Starlight Glimmer, the evil counterpart who appears in the actual show, had Sunset's backstory!

Best and Worst in his own way is Captain Pollution

latest

Captain Planet himself was always logically weird due to the weakness to pollution, so Captain Planet naturally defeated Pollution by... dragging him through clean seawater, pure magma, and chucking him out into an unpolluted sky.

The evil version of the Planeteers' rings were more interesting: Earth changed to Deforestation, Fire to Radiation, Wind to Smog, Water to Toxics, and Heart to Hate, which was a cool idea but was only used for half an episode and the rings were there to create Captain Pollution.
