2007 - First mentions of Kingdom Hearts 3. Development not starting for a while due to Nomura's team focusing on Versus XIII.
2012 - Dream Drop Distance gets released. According to Nomura Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the next game in the series. DDD itself also has a secret message that outright spells out ''This leads to Kingdom Hearts III''.
Early 2013 - Development on Kingdom Hearts 3 begins.
June 2013 - Kingdom Hearts 3 officially announced at E3 along with a CGI trailer. Immediately after the reveal Nomura comments that the reveal was made ''a little early''. Osaka team who has been responsible for some handheld spinoffs is now handling the development due to the original Tokyo based team pretty much not existing in it's original form and/or being busy developing Final Fantasy XV. Game is mentioned to be ''at a low stage of development''.
October 2013 - First real gameplay of Kingdom Hearts 3 running on Luminous Engine shown and the footage looks very rough and early to put it mildly.
June 2014 - At E3 Nomura blesses us with some rough character art and Japanese VA talking nonsense.
Summer/Fall 2014 - Somewhere around here the engine is switched from Luminous to Unreal Engine 4.
September 2014 - Square announces that Nomura has been kicked off of FFXV and that ''he will be focusing his efforts on the production of titles that can only be made possible by Nomura, himself, and delivering products that exceed the quality of past titles, starting with another one of his representative projects, Kingdom Hearts III.''

September 2014 - ''Development moving steadily along the estimated schedule. However, we are having a lot of trouble with the image creating part of things due to the engine.''
October 2014 - ''I harness the burning anger in my heart into what I create. Kingdom Hearts III’s current development explodes very much in this sense.''
December 2014 - Concept trailer shown behind closed doors at KH2.5 release event, never to be shown to the public.
January 2015 - Voice actor of Goofy confirms Kingdom Hearts 3 will release this year!
June 2015 - First actual decentish trailer for KH3 shown at E3. While still rough in places the footage looks much, much better than the last time we saw the game on Luminous. ''Development is on track, development stage of KH3 is relatively advanced.''
August 2015 - New Concept art shown!
November 2015 - Expanded gameplay based on the E3 trailer show at D23 event behind closed doors, released to the public in December.
June 2016 - ''Upcoming KH3 announcements this winter!'' ''I think I will report new information on KH3 along with the release of KH2.8. I hope you now understand that work on KH3 is progressing well, and please look forward to this winter.''
October 2016 - 2 new screenshots!
December 2016 - ''I would really like to release new information, however at this present time I am unable to. I can say that we are currently working out the timing for future announcements. I'm terribly sorry to keep you all waiting for so long, but please wait just a little longer.''
January 2017 - New screenshot to celebrate FF7 20th anniversary! ''Kingdom Hearts 3 has entered a significant time of development.''
February 2017 - New screenshot!
March 2017 - Winter over, no word on the previously promised winter announcements. Nothing at Kingdom Hearts 15th anniversary thus meaning we got more KH3 footage at FF7 anniversary than the series anniversary itself.
April 2017 - Game confirmed by SE President to release "in the next three years or so."
June 2017 - ????????

I believe it'll show up at E3 and show a bunch of progress and it'll get released next year.

I could also be super wrong. But I have faith that Osaka Team can deliver. At least we don't have to wait long to find out how it's progressing.

I'm confident that we'll see the game next game, but if it somehow misses E3 and the next major events, I think that next year we will likely get an announcement regarding the game's development, be it a rebranding, a cancellation, a studio switch or simply a change in scope and direction.

If the game doesn't have a big showing next week it will be time to panic. I think they'll have something. They probably need a release window as well at this point though.

He admits he's not the best project leader before, which is why KH games have co-director and Tabata was originally came in with XV.

4+ Years of development time doesn't seem unreasonable at all given this is a team coming off 3DS game development. I'm sure development for KH2.8 took up their time and some of their team as well.

I do find the "Lord Nomura" stuff a little childish though. Just because some people don't immediately take shots at him doesn't mean they're worshiping the dude.

The "Next 3 years" part is in regards to all their titles - KH3, FF7 Remake, and the recently announced Marvel Titles. The expectation is all of the will be released within that timeframe. A lot of news sites just limited it to KH3 and FF7 which is misleading. Doesn't mean KH3 is gonna hit in 2020. There's a good chance it's hitting next year.

I think people are totally looking at this the wrong way. 0.2 was basically a full world out of KH3, just not with Sora as the protag. You've already been playing it! They must have SOMETHING to show this year...

Looking at it like that, if it gets released next year then they pretty much finished it in 5-6 years of dev time. Isn't that what all AAA games take? It all boils down to the fact that they announced it too early. I understand why they did but I feel like it brought more negatives than positives for SE. Hopefully it actually does release next year.........

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
It's the fact its on UE4 now and just going this slowly that makes it all too hard to swallow. It's a game where you whizz about and hit little creepers with all sorts of magic spell piff paff effect, just model the damn Disney content and move it about.

If its not out next year, honestly Square are going to have to just fire Nomura outright and he can be an art/design freelancer going forward.

God this bullshit is exactly the rope-a-dope that he played with Versus XIII. Being so vague, "advanced state of development", "please wait a little longer", not even committing to an announcement of an announcement, ugh.

This game is in development hell, we're not getting it for years, and it's going to have a lot of problems when it launches. It sucks, I want it not to be true, but let's not shit ourselves.

4 years already? Wonder when SE will learn to not announce games on the very beggining of developement.

If we're throwing predicitons, i think it will be revealed again this year (not necessary E3).
Release date: Late 2018
1 or 2 delays after: releases on early 2019.

Not entirely sure what was would be worse: waiting 3.5 years for FFXV and it ending up poorly or having to wait at least 5 for KH3 to somewhat deliver...assuming it does.
Have more trust in Nomura's talent as a director than most and I'd rather wait for a quality product, but it sure would be nice if SE didnt feel the need to announce it before it started full development
especially with a disgustingly misleading CG reveal trailer

Nomura seriously needs to get his shit together, and release this thing. And the game better be good because there's been enough waiting and handheld port teases and stuff.

I truly believe Kingdom Hearts III will receive a worldwide release in spring/summer 2018.

So yes, I believe it will be at E3 this year.
