If Rare thinks that Banjo-Kazooie has so much pull to endanger and outshine their top project, then this would be quite telling in the following ways:
- Their reluctance to make a new collectathon that is obvious since at least 2008 being not justified even in their own eyes
- The relative weakness of their top project itself

If Rare were to announce a new Banjo game and were confident in their offering with Sea of Thieves (which I think they are!) they should rather see this as an opportunity to show they are an active, talented studio that can have multiple attractive games in the works at once. When they were making DK64, they did not shy away from talking about the successor of their most successful series, just because other, new IP games like Conker, Perfect Dark and JFG were in the works. Neither did it hurt their sales.

There certainly are players who would buy a Banjo but not SoT, like for instance myself. Having played SoT at Gamescom, I had the impression the game lacks any kind of mechanical substance and is merely a social meeting place for people who like to roleplay as pirates. The game is so extremely far away from Banjo (online multiplayer vs. singleplayer, social experience oriented vs. gameplay oriented, semi-realistic vs. antropomorphic animals, major aaa budget vs. what would probably be a b-title budget) that these games would not hurt each other in the slightest. If anything, I can only see a positive effect due to people having more interest in Rare and more traditional Rare fans buying an Xbox One who then might try out SoT as well.

I re-thought what I said and I don't think Banjo has much pull outside of hardcore Rare fans at all, and those fans are scarce nowadays. So even if a Banjo announcement did alienate those players from Sea of Thieves, it would have minimal, if any impact on Sea of Thieves in the grand scale of things.

I do agree that Sea of Thieves is a weak ass project, for now at least. It's been two years and they have still not convinced nearly enough people that the game has any substance whatsoever. There is no buzz around it. GAF threads with whatever dripfed news Rare releases barely make out of the first page and it stays completely obscure on social media. Nobody cares about this game yet. They need something that really turns heads at the conference this time. Making people laugh at a showfloor demo is not enough.

It's rational discussion. In Europe most products will go through several different deals before release and of course a lot more after launch.

You'll might see some awesome bundles aimed for the holidays or Black Friday.

Norwegian oil money.

No, I've never bought a console day 1 in the UK.

Lol win

On topic, pre ordering anything usually doesn't make sense financially for the individual doing it, but it's a way of helping the company/author/whatever you're buying.

I pre-order books of the authors I like to support them.

I pre-order indie games for the same reason.

I almost never pre-order AAA games (just once...DS3)

I never pre-order hardware.

just did myself, definitely true, of course it's flooded now with scorpio images if you search just the numbers, but if you put robot along the numbers the first image is indeed the 399$ teaser

i saw the thing about the numbers earlier, in a youtube video. People assumed the 6>4 is in terms of teraflops being the most obvious.

That long string of numbers ends in 101317, maybe the release date. Then someone found that if you put that entire string into google, the first result is some vintage ad for building a robot. And the title is something like "Build this robot for under $400". I did not test this myself tho.

Edit: impossible to check now cus google is flooded with articles about the video.

MS marketing team are amazing.

I get one strong indication from these marketing teasers for Scorpio: Confidence. This thing must be showcasing incredible results not just internally, but also with 3rd parties.

That's marketing though, right? Microsoft has a lot rolling on Scorpio, so even if it's a dumpster fire they're going to market it like it's Jesus Christ's favorite way to game.

I'm kind of hoping Scorpio will have a USB-C port, and that newer Xbox controllers have the micro USB ports replaced with USB-C.

Not expecting it, but it would be nice!

God, I hope not. I want the controllers and cables to be the same as the Xbox One. I don't have any USB-C cables.

That would be stupid for controllers.

Predictable Neogaf thread titles that will appear on the night of June 11th.

*So Scorpio is powerful, but where are the games?

*Is anyone else disappointed that Scalebound wasn't uncancelled?

*Which of the big three are you pre-ordering today? Banjo-Kazooie 3, Fable 4, or the new Halo Mass-Effect-style RPG?

*Any chance Banzo Kazooie 3 will be ported to the Nintendo Switch?

*Do you think the lack of 16bit rapid-packed math will dramatically hurt Scorpio's perceived power advantage?

Yep! I think they first showed just how confident they are with Scorpio when they first announced it. It's nice to see them back on the offensive after how much time they spent recovering this gen. Really hoping they can show that off with games next.

I'm of the mind that this "gen" is more or less done for at this point for Microsoft. They can regain some marketshare, but they're never going to catch up to PS4. However, I think they're doing a great job at preparing for the future if they truly plan to abandon the "generational" approach. That could feasibly mean that we'll get the equivalent of late-gen exclusives on Scorpio/Scorpio 2 while Sony is (potentially) starting from scratch with PS5.

Time will tell, but all signs point to Microsoft finally finding a "voice" for Xbox after having to play catch-up.

"Scorpio may be more powerful but I prefer Sony's exclusives"

"What good is Scorpio's power if Sony has all the extra content?"

"PS4 Pro price drop.. Scorpio DOA?"

"When will Microsoft let Turn 10 make a first person shooter?"

"I think GT Sport looks better than Forza 7"

"Was anyone else underwhelmed by MS press conference?"

"Now that Scorpio has been revealed, will you buy one?"

All of these are 100% guarantees for Sunday night or Monday morning.

I do agree that compatibility is a must, and it's a promised feature. But I do think one USB-C port would be nice to have, giving rapid charge to battery packs and whatnot.

Though it's not like I use battery packs, as my eneloops have been providing a good charge for about 4 years now.

The middle one for sure, but I think it's a fair question.
