Welcome back to the bimonthly Nintendo eShop Charts threads! It's been a while, but now that there's a brand new console in the mix (plus, charts being a thing on the system), I thought it would have been ideal to bring them back.

Now, for those of you who don't know about the eShop Charts...

1. Introduction

Digital stores are becoming more and more important as the time goes by. And this can be said for retail titles being sold on digital stores too. Digital storefronts on all Nintendo platforms (Switch, 3DS, Wii U) provide various sales charts, costantly updated and these are the most important things for this thread. So, after this brief introduction, let's clarify how these charts work.

2. The charts on eShop

2.1. How are they organised

Charts logo is pretty visible on eShops. On 3DS, you can use a filter to look at Current Releases charts and All-Time charts. The Current Releases charts represent how games are currently selling on eShop, while the All-Time charts rank the top 20 best selling titles since the launch of the services. You can also use the filter in order to view 3DS Only Charts, DSiWare only Charts, Virtual Console only Charts on both macrocategories. The same can be said for Wii U eShop charts. In their current form, Switch eShop charts are much more basic compared to the other Nintendo platforms: current charts only (no other cathegories / filters available) and top 15 instead of top 20. Plus, while users can rank games on 3DS and Wii U through stars, this option is currently unavailable on Switch.

2.2. Different region, different charts

eShop Charts aren't the same all around the world. US has specific charts, as well as Japan, while Europe...has lots of specific charts: in fact, there aren't European charts, but specific European countries / areas charts. There are specific rankings for Italy, UK, Germany, France, Spain + Portugal, Scandinavia and Greece, etc.etc. On Switch, by setting different users with different countries, you have the possibility to see different charts.

3. Organization of the threads

Nintendo eShop Charts Threads will be bi-monthly. For example, this one will be for May and June, the next for July and August, and so on. There's no obligation of posting charts, but the ideal pace would be twice per week, like Tuesdays and Fridays. Still, no obligation for anyone here.

Major rules to follow:

Posts with 3DS Current Releases charts can consist of just the overall 3DS Current Releases chart or it can contain the 3DS Only (retail + 3DS dd exclusives, so no DSiWare, no VC titles) Current Releases too. The same for Wii U when Wii U eShop will be updated with this filter.

If you've posted charts for one console, but you want to post them for the other console too, just update your previous post, so there aren't two links referring to charts for the same country.

Since Switch allows users to have mulitple profiles with different regions, you can post different countries charts in your own posts.

Additional notes:

1)Ratings don't strictly represent sales. They're posted to give additional information about titles and (if possible) discussing about trends of ratings
2)The charts do represent what's selling right now...and don't. In fact, "Recent Releases" charts list the best selling software during the last two weeks. Stated in the eShop digital manual itself (thanks serplux XD ).

Glad to see Has Been Heroes do so well. That game is awesome. NBA Playgrounds is nice to see too since it is one of the first big third-party multi-plats to launch simultaneously with other consoles (I guess Wonder Boy would be the other one if I'm not mistaken).

I feel like I'm buying into the hype a bit here, but software sales are pretty awesome so far, aren't they? People seem very excited about this new method of gaming. It's a console and portable system in one, not to sound too hyperbolic but its like a new way of gaming

I have a feeling NBA Playgrounds is going to do most of its numbers on Switch. I wonder how its doing on other digital stores

Basically what you're getting is if you combined the libraries of wii U and 3ds onto one console, playable at home or on the go, on superior hardware design/interface.

I am curious about that NBA Playgrounds game. I loved NBA Jam back in the day.

I can't believe I haven't bought Thumper yet considering I love almost every rhythm game. I generally prefer buying games on Steam when possible but the reviews for the Switch version are pretty glowing so I may just get it on there.

Ultra street fighter 2 seems to be doing good in the charts. Its only been a few days and its already charting high. I suspect it will go higher the next couple of weeks. Even with the high price I have a feeing its selling good.

Come to think of it, third parties in general seem to have a good chance of succeeding on the Switch.

Decided to take a look at Ireland to compare, we don't like Neo Geo games here. Thumper is climbing week over week which is cool, USF2 also going strong.

Glad to see Has Been Heroes do so well. That game is awesome.
It's a wonder, given how poorly it reviewed. However, I'm glad that people are willing to give it a chance and make up their own minds, because if you like that sort of game, it's honestly one of the best titles currently on the Switch.

How long will Minecraft stay on top of the eshop charts? Until ARMS? Splatoon 2?

I expect it to remain top 10 for the majority of the year, it's the biggest 3rd party evergreen title on the Switch and currently it's only available digitally.
Once NPD comes out for May we shall know what type of a boost Minecraft received from the Switch since Microsoft is disclosing digital numbers and Minecraft was #20 in April.

Also got confirmation about Nintendo having a NDA in place regarding sales numbers on eShop.

Slight OT, tolkir, but haven't postedt Week 21 charts from Spain in the PAL thread yet. I assume there was no Vandal Radio podcast this week, correct me if I'm wrong.

There was a podcast, but the guy with the charts is in Japan right now. Looks like he don't want to give the numbers to some partner to say them.

It was a pity because I think Street Fighter was top 5 or very close.

Street Fighter 2 must be doing great in the U.S. to beat out Minecraft. I expected Minecraft to be #1 forever, to be honest. Surprised that NBA Playgrounds is moving up again. I guess the lure of free Shaq Fu was enough for people to pick the game up.

That... or the NBA finals being on reminded basketball fans that they want a basketball game.

Just speculating on sf2 sales.

We know 20k sold in Japan and I assume 5 k digital.

I think its reasonable to assume 50k US and 50k Europe. That would put it at 125k already, maybe even more. 250k in the long run is not out of reach, which would mean 10 million in revenue. Not bad for a low budget effort.

Well, before the announcement, the game was down to 5 or 6 on the charts. After the announcement it's going back up. I assume that the negative word of mouth about the missing online play was at work, but with the update that people who purchase the game before the patch is out will get free Shaq Fu, it started to pick up again. Either way, those guys should be happy.

I'd imagine that once it goes down in price especially digitally it might turn out even more profitable.

Additional bonus

One of the most recent Nintendo News on Switch is a brand new type of eShop chart: the Top 10 monthly downloads. What I'm curious about is if it's a country-specific chart or an actually European download Top 10. Thus, it could be extremely useful to see what English / French / Spanish / whatever users received as news. In the meanwhile

Good to see street fighter doing well.

Also Thumper is listed as being developed by 'Droll', which I think is a much better name.
