This trailer almost brought me to tears. You could feel the emotion surge with that absolutely gorgeous art style and soundtrack. Incredible.

Thomas, I doubt you have concrete spec requirements, but if I could run Blind Forest on my PC any chance I'll be able to run this on the same PC? Dunno if you had any goals like that in mind during initial planning?

That's actually a good question, I played it on a notebook and it runned pretty okay (30 FPS more or less), so if it retains the same requirements, it would be great.

Love the speculation that's already going on in this thread - rest assured that our team reads all this stuff, so any suggestions or feedback you might have on things you'd like to see, feel free to post here about it! :)

Please note that, despite me using and liking Windows 10, there is simply no way you will make money off of me if the only way to play the game on PCs is through the steaming pile of elephant dung that is WinStore.

I'm not one of the 'Steam or die' folk, just bring the game to a proper PC platform, be it Valve's one, CD Project's one, EA's one or Ubisoft's one. Or all of them, that's up to you. Anything but PC@Xbox.

I'm not yet allowed to talk about a lot of the things we're doing with Will of the Wisps, but rest assured that we definitely listen. We made the Definitive Edition of Blind Forest cause some of you raised your voice, so this time it's really about blowing the gates wide open and welcoming everyone back into the Ori universe with a huge bang. If you even have the slightest inkling of an interest in Platformers, Metroidvanias or 2d games... I think we got you covered with Will of the Wisps, hehe! :)

The biggest thing that comes in my mind is the end of the first game.
Please let us continue our save this time when the game is done, that is the only complain I had about the masterpiece.
But I think I'm not the only one with it. ^^

Do you not think you're over-reacting a little bit? The Windows Store isn't that bad, Id even rank it higher than uPlay. Missing out on a game like this just because of the store you buy it from seems very short sighted.

Regardless, if this is anything like the first game, it is being published by MS so will likely be timed exclusive on the store and will release on Steam at a later point. So you can wait till then I guess?

Can I ask how big is your team?

Also, ever thought of making an Ori 3D platform?

the first game came out simultaneously on steam and xb1, no windows 10 required. there is a windows store version but that is just another option, like how rise of the tomb raider or cod:iw are on both steam and the windows store.

i'm guessing this time it's different, because if you watched the conference you would have noticed that the trailer said "XBOX ONE AND WINDOWS 10 EXCLUSIVE" - so at the very least it won't be on steam at launch, and maybe not ever.

i can't really say i hate the windows store, i have gears 4 for pc and i've never had any problems due to it being from the windows store, so if the pc version really is exclusive to the windows store i'l give in. obviously i'd rather have it on steam though. probably not up to moon studios

They already "fixed" this in Definitive Edition, so I don't see why they wouldn't do it again in the sequel =)

This is the point I was trying to make. Did the first Ori not come out prior to Microsoft's Windows 10 Play Anywhere service? We may see a Steam release at a certain point after release, more akin to what happened with Quantum Break. Or it will just be W10 exclusive

EDIT: Id just like to clarify that when I said "if its anything like the first" I was talking in regards to MS being the publisher.

Small tangent: While I always have an open ear to specific issues, the more petulant and arbitrary reactions to when a game dares exist on the Win10 Store is one of the easiest signs I've observed to tell quickly if someone is talking about the substance of games or services, or if they're just basically an anti-brand noise maker.

Prior to the fixes maybe 9-ish months ago, I would have been right there with them, but as a store/download/update setup, it's reached par for the industry. No more, no less. The frequency of griping about the unspecified inconvenience of using it to purchase a game and play it borders on self-parody.

That said, I think a delayed release on things like Steam would be wise.

No, I'm not over-reacting.
WinStore (and UWPs) are an ongoing threat to everything that makes PC gaming PC gaming. A lot has been said on that topic before, and we had dozens of GAF threads about it, most of which usually involve PC-GAF being taught they don't appreciate the greatness of Microsoft by people who don't game on PC.
It's largely anti-consumer, it works now about as well as it did when it started (terribly),
Whether a developer wants to support that eco-system, it's up to them. Whatever incentives they have to do so is on them. Whether they release the game on PS4, Switch, X1, mobiles, whatever. But when they are saying they will release the game on PCs, release it on bloody PC (GOG, Origin, even Uplay if your publisher is so scared of Valve as a competitor they won't allow you to release on Steam), not locked to a pre-alpha version of AppStore.

The trailer looked so amazing and music was great, but I don't like these type of trailers that show zero gameplay. Might as well should have been a CG trailer. They need to mix in some gameplay footage into the trailer otherwise it's nothing more than watching a movie. It just ended up being a beautifully directed cut scene. I hope that developers don't just use the power of these consoles to make gorgeous non interactive scenes. I'm sure the game will be great, but that trailer didn't showcase that. It might be too early in development but it's still an exciting direction. For me, it can't be a game of the show with no game.

Completely 100% this.

I am not a "give me Steam or give me death" sort, but I will never use the W10 store cos of A) UWP and B) it's a horrendous pos on equal footing with GFWL

This is how I usually feel. But this game gets a pass, as far as I'm concerned.

Why?

1) Ori and the Blind Forest was phenomenal.
2) The team has demonstrated that they are able to listen to feedback (see: Definitive Edition) and care about the experience of their player base.
3) The game's director posts here. He is pleasant, enjoys interacting with his players, and has promised us something great *in this very thread*. His track record leads me to believe that something at or above the level promised will be delivered.
4) Having played the first game start to finish multiple times, and seeing what it was capable of, I can say that everything in the trailer looked like it was most likely in-engine.

So yeah! It should be good =)

I must be the anomaly, because of the handful of games I've bought on the Win10 store, I haven't had issues with the store itself... plus, I can cross-play on my XB1S if I want. *shrug*

One thing that is VERY important to me and why I think Ori was so stand out - Please bring back the escape sequences. They are bar none the best way of doing "boss" encounters in this style of game and were not only challenging, but super fun and rewarding, not to mention an utter spectacle.

Since you're here, Thomas, I just want to chime in and say I won't be getting the game if it's Windows 10 store exclusive. If you could somehow do Steam or GoG that would be outstanding.

Trust us a little :) I wouldn't worry too much. Will of the Wisps isn't just a visual upgrade, far from it. The idea is that Will of the Wisps should be to Blind Forest what Super Mario Bros 3 was to the original Super Mario Bros :)

Ohhhhh dang. Those are big words! Not that I doubt you.

Asked on twitter, but are you guys on today's Xbox daily or another day?

Also thank you once again for being so engaged with us, the fans.

Looks great. Ori & Cuphead are pretty much the only things that spark any interest for XBone in me. Unfortunately, as only a Switch & PS4 owner, I will just have to watch Let's Plays.

Its a Teaser, not a Trailer.

Did you forgot how the first Ori was introduced? Game was great too so they have pedigree here.

Hi Thomas. I enjoyed Ori very much and purchased on day one. It is an excellent game. Just for some feedback, I hope you can move this Ori into even more Metroidvania by including more solving puzzles. Perhaps kind of like Shadow Complex. i was disappointed Ori did not have too much critical thinking puzzles.I liked Ori but felt it had less puzzles and more memorization sequences that I did not like too much. I hope you can add more puzzles and less memorization sequences, or both. Thanks for listening.

Gotta say Thomas, this was one of my favorite e3 reveals!
I loved playing the first with my younger sisters. If I could give any feedback, I would personally love to see the combat system expanded (maybe some enemies require some sort of physical attacks and a couple of cool boss fights.

Also I just want to say that I still listen to the music from the first-I can't wait to get my hands on the next.

Anyways, can't freakin wait - but also take your time - I'm willing to wait for you all to make it as good as it can be.

This has prompted my to finally finish my elite run of the first game, which means starting over, since the expanded version came out since my last attempt, which is fine by me.

This game S2

Don't even need to hear about it anymore, I know that whenever it launches it will be amazing.

No, I'm not over-reacting.

No it's not a threat. A lot of what's said in this article is bullshit, or has been addressed.

"No Exclusive Fullscreen Mode"
It was only an issue because some applications detect exclusive full screen to work, like for instance gsync. The compatibility woes has been solved.

"Lack of interoperability"
This was just a lie from day 1. Injection worked right away, the only "trick" is that uwps require a different method of retrieving the application to inject. It's simply a matter of the tools updating to support this, not any kind of block

"Modding Restrictions"
Already solved by the community. Even the file integrity checks are a solved problem (Not sure about modifying the executable, but I think even that can be done for some games)

Injection mods are the same as above, just need to change how they acquire the app process to inject.

"Ecosystem Drawbacks"
They mention stealink and no drm from gog. One is a feature anyone can develop an app for, and the other is a characteristic not of platform. Steam also has some drm.

They also bullshit about certification, again, that's a store process, not something required with uwp.

"A more holistic view" and "History and Context" are complete bullshit not worth mentioning.

"Potential consequences and the future"
This is also false. Most of the installers (installshield for instance) which are used to install win32 applications already support uwp, you can create a installer to distribute every where you want, and anyone is free to integrate like those installer did to their store (for instance steam might integrate uwp on their own installer making no difference to the user on how they install their games.

Apps that do so even have the platform benefits Ms added to uwp, such as streaming install (think of Ps4 playing games when installing from the disc), automatic updates, A/B testing for new features and some more. And this was added to the app model, available to any uwp even those you install from outside of the store (yes, you can simply download a uwp from a web site, install, and have it always updated)

So no, UWP is not a cancer, it's not against what PC gaming should be about, not anti consumer in the slightest (someone should create a law about this word btw)... It's just a simple new format that is receiving great new features such as the ones I mentioned above as platform features usable for all developers and are made in a standardized way.
