New Xbox Avatars coming this fall

I hope they have Avatar clothing drops with certain Xbox Achievements like they did for a handful of games late in the 360's cycle. Even though I was never super into Avatars, I appreciated getting extra loot with a cheevo.

Very cute.

That looks surprisingly good.

Well, they look way better than the last time they teased them. I probably won't bother doing much with mine, not like they're going to be showing up all over the dashboard again or anything, but they look good. RIP my Needler pro though, assuming none of the old stuff comes forward.

The animation, on the face especially, is great. If you said this was from like Disney's GC studio or something I'd totally believe it.

Well hey, that's cool. I dunno how they're gonna integrate Unity into the existing apps on Windows 10, but that's not my problem. Can't wait to make a monstrosity with whatever tools we're given!
And this makes me glad I didn't bother buying any outfits when I found out the avatars existed :p

These look amazing, I'm skeptical that user created Avatars will look anywhere near this good or be this well animated. Would love to be wrong!

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
Really great design aesthetic and customization options.

If the actual avatars can match that level of animation quality I'll be doubly impressed.

Users aren't actually going to be coding these in Unity.

Everyone's avatar will look this good. You customize it and dress it. You don't actually code it.

I... Wasn't expecting to. I don't know why I would be expected to.

...Oh my God, Microsoft Avatar Monster Factory! Make it happen!

I am well aware, but I doubt they have a working editor for end users if they're not coming for another 6 months. These have probably all be hand made, basically a vertical slice.

So they're going to release new avatars...and give people no way to customize them. Right....

These arent going to be available for another six months, at least. Chances are everything in this trailer was done in a professional CG program like Maya or something, and the end product isn't going to have animation and modelling as smooth as this. Especially if this is for Windows 10, where it has to work on low-spec machines as well.

Basically this, where did I say users would have no way of customising them? I'm saying these avatars have been pre-made as vertical slice examples, I doubt user created ones will look this good.

I at least hope I can make one with dem hips.

These definitely look fantastic. Has a Pixar/Disney look to them. The animations are really great as well. I wonder who made these avatars? Was it Rare again?

Seemed like this Avatar got a stylistic/technical upgrade to...

But at the same time as releasing this video teaser of the new Avatars, this can be found in the promo pic of the Avatars on the Xbox One X product page.

The 2 Avatars w/ gradient hair in the pic on the left are in the same vein as the really nice ones seen in the teaser w/ higher geometry, more detailed texturing, better lighting, etc.

So bullshot? Why are those two different styles in the same pic that was just released? Which one are we getting?

I hope the promo pic released is just inaccurate and we're getting something like the trailer.

They look very good but the problem for me is the exposure. In the 360 you have your avatar in the start screen or when you join a party you see the people's avatars. In the xbox one they are hide and only if you see the profile.

Exactly this, the trailer avatars look far too good I don't believe it. The one in the promo image looks more realistic and it looks quite poor, if they're advertising that at the same time as the trailer I have doubts.

I really hope we end up being able to make Avatars that look like the trailer though, they look amazing.

Ditching the Mii look. Finally

Comparing the original avatars to Miis is excessive, as a matter of fact they're still closer to the new ones than to Miis.

Also yeah, that blue-eyed avatar doesn't look as good. Part of it might be in the lighting too, maybe the rendering won't be the same whether your avatar is rendered in the dashboard/a simple app, or in a full game (I guess the reason they stressed out the avatar was made with Unity was because devs will be able to use them easily in games).

I hope they can be viewed more easily on the homesreen.

This was one of those little things I really liked about the 360 dashboard in the NXE era.
