Tetsuya Takahashi's message on Xenoblade Chronicles 2

I couldn't care less about story in games and loved the exploration in Xeno X, so I'm still torn about Xeno 2, but...

Some people think exploration is what games should be all about, while some are like “no no, story is what’s best.” Well we’ve got something perfect for both of those kinds of people: Xenoblade 2.

... this sounds good to me.

she is actually in line with the other female protagonists regarding her design
KOS-MOS is hot, but not so skimpy that her attire literally looks stripperific. In regards to roles, she is her own battle weapon and character, and not subservient to anyone, even Shion most of the time. I'll withhold my judgment on Pyra, but she's def a lot kinkier looking than KOS-MOS.

Same here, absolutely. I haven't really enjoyed many of the main characters in Xeno games in years which has made it hard to enjoy the overarching stories too, so I'm not really expecting that much from the story anyway. Would be nice if it surprised me positively, though.

I mean, the original XC had its fair share of miserable characters and tragedy.
Pretty much the entirety of
Melia's
and the
High Entia
arcs are tragic.

I'm not saying XB wasn't tragic at times, it just seems that this is much more light-hearted which is a bit of a bummer.

I wouldn't mind if it doesn't meet 2017 deadline, it just looks like a standart rpg, but it's not mindblowing like XCX was in its time.

I was going to post a Elma pic but that was a massive spoiler

what they talked about is that this game will feature multiple titans... so multiple bionis or mechonis like worlds...

we just saw the giraffe like one but if they have like 10 of those .... man the game will be easily bigger than botw or XBX

Elma is basically the main character in X as the story revolves the most around her. We just need her to be the lead party member in the sequel.

I would be okay with this. They should get another guy to do the art design, or get some folks to teach them how to get it done. Maybe that same guy can hook up with Bethesda, too.

This. Elma should have been the lead party member as well, hopefully some day.

Yep, though obviously still fanservicey. And yeah, her role, overruling and backing it up, etc. was also great.
It doesn't bother me too much, I'm just surprised that her like thong and backside are so visible lol.

Yeah, though her main armor is pretty good.

I really don't see how Pyra is more kinkier.

As I said before in another thread, seem Takahashi now doing games for his lulz.
I don't know why high rank suits in Nintendo keep pushing him tho, but I love it. LOL

Please give me Xenoblade X2 next.

Yeah I think I'm going to skip this. I'm getting too old and tired for this sort of story and characterization.

Eh I think this version is more comparable what with the mini skirt and all.

That being said, we obviously know a TON more about KOS-MOS as a character than we know about Pyra so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. At least it seems like she's the one with the goal of getting to Elysium and Rex is her support vs that being his goal and her just going along with it because she wants to protect him/loves him/whatever.

I would not object to slightly less skimpy shorts though. At least Sharla-level, that would make a big difference.

I... don't think I could write more than 5 sentences about what the story in this game is about, much less produce any sort of judgement on how light-hearted it is.

Lol i thought it said Tetsuya Nomura

Tetsuya Nomura's message on Xenoblade Chronicles 2:

"I'm very excited for you to play Takahashi-san's upcoming new game, so I decided to postpone Final Fantasy 7 in order to explore some North American caves with Tabata-san as inspiration for the character I designed. While we were there, I realized that Kingdom Hearts 3 is unfortunately not where I wanted it to be, so I have rebooted it for Nintendo Switch."

I agree with criticisms about the clothing; the way the character's dressed is pretty blatantly for fanservice purposes. But I think the rest of your thoughts are pretty weak. I'm not sure where the ceasing to exist thing comes from, but I thought the "I love this world..." line was pretty cute, why do you think that line comes from a place of dependance rather than romantic love and how is that harmful representation? We're missing context for it but that's something I'd expect on a valentine's card. And I don't feel like having big breasts is a bad thing for female representation, I've read several comments that read like they expect breasts to fall within a certain size range or that somehow makes the character worse or less credible or something. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of cool and capable women with big breasts in this world we live in. Again, I think it's the clothing that's obviously pandering to a male audience that's the problem that clashes with the character traits that the game probably wants her to have, not any of her physical attributes.
Regarding my breasts argument, just ask yourself this: Would a female designer have designed her the same way? Most likely not. This screams straight male teenager fantasy. Says a lot about the designer, as well, if you ask me.

I know, I'm just going by Takahashi's comments. It might not be light-hearted at all, but going by what he said, it sounds like it will be. And if it is, that's a bummer. If not, good. That's all.

There are plenty of pandering designs done by females. Solange from Code of Princess as an example.

This avatar bites me in the ass all the time it seems.

Yes, you're right. Zelda is a bad example of good female character representations in video games. But at least Zelda isn't dressed like that. And she doesn't cease to exist if Link dies. She doesn't have over-dimensional breasts. She doesn't "love this world because Link's in it." Etc.
Well, I mean, she likely does die if Link dies or if he never woke up in time. And why do you keep bringing up that quote/line in the game? People already told you she is referring to multiple people when she said that.

Female designers can and do design characters like her. Could still just be done to pander to a male demographic, but they do.

Yeah I've seen tons of really tasteful designs done by men (though usually western) and tons of cheesecake-y designs from women. That doesn't make Pyra a good design by any means, though. Her outfit bugs me, lol.

Are you the one in Kiseki threads complaining about how happy everything is? Go play Witcher or something, man. Fiction is depressing enough, I like a change of pace.

Anyway, much as I want this game, I want X2 way more. A few tweaks to that style of gameplay and quest design and it's a masterpiece.

Uh, possibly? I hardly go around telling people how much I hated the pillow-fight war of Cold Steel 1 and 2, but it was one of my bigger complaints about it and I have mentioned it a couple of times. I don't think I've talked about it since CS2's release, though, so not sure if I should be flattered you seem to remember me.

Oppressively depressing fiction is great, makes real life seem like a fairy tale in comparison!

I've always liked the second image of KOS-MOS over the top one. I think she's a much better designed character than Pyra.

Sure, I'm just saying that as the person that consumes this product, I have no issue with a female protagonist having big breasts. I do have an issue with the overly sexualized and pandering clothes. It's difficult for me to really put it into words, but what I take issue with is people saying that somehow her having big boobs clashes with the traits that the game wants her to have, or any sort of positive characterization that the narrative might imbue into her.
The clothes are silly, jarring and ultimately damaging to the game because they're obviously designed by the character's creators to be fanservice for a male audience first and foremost, in disservice of both the game and character's context. The same thing can't be said for her breasts.

"A young adult story with a taste of boy-meets-girl. Lately it feels like all I’ve been doing are games full of devastation, like where your hometown burns down at the start, or the spaceship you’re riding crashes(oh wait, that is all I ever do). Sometimes I just wanna try something different!

I don't believe this for a second. It's not a Takahashi game until the protagonist loses their hometown/starting location in a horrible accident. :p

Yes but her mere existence isn't tied to Link.

And why do you keep bringing up that quote/line in the game? People already told you she is referring to multiple people when she said that.

Do you have a source for this? I would gladly shut up if true.

You guys are right. It's the pandering to this specific demographic that I take issue with.

Yeah, but I kind of feel that Pyra is a little too much. I think I even saw boob jiggle in the stream the other day.
Didn't seem like a detail any more gratuitous than in the original Xenoblade. Unless the suggestion is that they shouldn't move at all?

Still looking forward to the game but this kinda makes me sad. The Takahashi of 10 years ago was so much more interesting than this watered down Nintendo version.

The original Xenoblade didn't exactly set Japan on fire. I'm guessing the more anime, fanservicey, Tales of style is meant to appeal more to the Japanese audience.

I'll buy it regardless, but I do prefer the original's style.
