Titanfall 2 on XOX can go above 4K with Dyanmic Superscaling

And it still holds 60fps? Very impressive if that's the case and it isn't just happening while looking at the sky.

Seems like a waste of resources. No? I guess if you have nothing else to do because you're inhibited by the performance (frame rate) of the lower-end system, then you might as well do this, but otherwise? Very small observable differences for a lot of extra work.

How is it a waste of resources. They are already at 60fps and have a ton of GPU to resources to spare, so this is how they are choosing to use it...

Superscaling* though? Dynamically going above the target resolution?

well on a technical level it's basically just setting the target resolution to 6K and letting the console try to make it.

Since you'll only render at a resolution you can make it to 60FPS in anyway, it's not like there's a downside to setting a target resolution at 6K, as long as you design your levels to not push it below native too much

Will definitely be giving this game a go.

This console must be a bit of a monster, I do wonder whether it could have handled Destiny at 60FPS.

Guess that's a can of worms though.

CPU is too weak.

I don't think that's right. With superscaling (fun word), you are keeping the output to be 4K because otherwise, you would need to downsample to suit the display. I mean, it depends on the point of view, but I imagine for the sake of frametimes and bandwidth it not as simple as increasing the target resolution.

Though, would be nice to hear from a Respawn about it in more detail.

Fair point. I'd like to know this too.

I'd imagine not. Especially the Very High settings they patched in along with this update for PC (which was based on changing the .ini settings to push the LoD etc. the highest possible).

Their plan is to get 4k60 in the areas where it struggles the most and use this to get better IQ in the areas where there are resources left. I don't believe Titanfall 2 has dynamic, uh, graphics settings built into its engine (outside of textures ofc.)

right, so they claim. Destiny 2 is not a good looking game. Battlefield 1 looks MUCH better and runs at about 48-55 fps on xbox one.

not the same game style, engine, etc

ah yeah, i think i'm getting tripped up on the terminology here

The CPU is hot garbage, don't even try to refute that. 60fps will never become commonplace on consoles with that CPU.

Amazing & they seem to be future proofing this game because it should render even higher on the next Xbox even without any need for a patch.

I wonder if this is using sparse rendering.

True, but it's fair to ask whether the performance limitations are due to the style of game, an inefficient engine, or limited hardware.

It's almost like there is one piece of hardware that's causing a bottleneck that has nothing to do with the visual capabilities of the game.

Battlefield one on xbox one is 720p most of the time, and it's DICE. We already know those games take full advantage of the platform they're on. Bungie games haven't for a while and while D2 actually is a fairly pretty game with some updates that bring it into the realm of other modern shooters, it's visual appeal was always going to be more based on its art style than anything. 'Good lucking game' is highly subjective. IF TF2 is able to run at times in 6K when the Pro only renders it at 1440p, they obviously didn't take full advantage of the Pro because there's no way the GPU and CPU boost can account for that difference.

Tf2 on ps4 is uber crisp and clean. It will be better here but again I can't see a difference almost between CB and native so no chance I'll see any here
