Senate healthcare repeal bill fails - Collins, Murkowski, and McCain voted no

My sides, they've exploded.

I live in an R state. My Governor, Senators, and House member all wanted this pass. We've had Christian retirement homes post op-eds about how they will no longer be able to function at capacity if this bill passed. The 2 medical companies that operate in state have come out against it. It still has support here. I have no clue how.

Because Obama. They hate anything with his name on it, same way they hate HIlary. Fox news and the right has acted like Obama, Hilary, Pelosi, and everybody else is a fucking super villain, and the GOP is trying to stop the Legion of Doom from ruining this country.

At what point is someone going to ask Trump about any healthcare specifics? I appreciate him rambling like a moron, but for crying out loud, it would be great to see him have to say something other than "Obamacare is bad"

You'll never get anything more than "we'll have a great healthcare bill. Tremendous bill. The best bill you've ever see" from him.

Holy shit that reddit comment.

Had no idea about the reconciliation stuff. McCain fucked them so bad.

Yup, McCain may have voted on the previous one when he knew his vote was not needed to keep McConnell comfortable enough to continue and save the no vote to kill this for the year.

I wonder if they'll just replace it with "the other care act" bill with all the same stuff just without Obamas name attached. That should make everyone happy

This happens all the time.

Right-wingers are fucking morons.

Chart list that is Catherine Cortez Masto (D) from NV

Nice catch on the thumbs up
Thank you very much. I was dying to know who it was! Pretty bad ass.

:lol I've been tapping back to see people's reactions and I just noticed my Senator, Joe Donnelly, was too busy chatting with Senator Hirono (?) to see it happen live lolololol.

I'm watching that C-SPAN video like I watched the buzzer beater at the IU/Kentucky game from a few years back. Find someone in the audience and watch their reaction. Rewind, find someone new, watch their reaction. Repeat.

Like, go straight up from McCain's head to the very top to the staffer in blue. She sits down and puts her face in her hands. THIS IS SO GREAT!

Damn McCain. Slay. If it's true that his yes vote to proceed was just so he could slay this and prevent another vote on healthcare this year, I sincerely regret the harsh words I threw his way recently. I never wished him ill, just for the record, but I did hope he wouldn't be able to make it for the vote but now it seems like it's a good thing he did make it.

If all the commentary is true, they failed reconciliation for this fiscal year (IE the current budget) which means all laws will now need 60 votes until the next budget is passed and it's reconciliation window.

They kept extending reconciliation because they didn't actually put it to vote apparently. Now they did and failed.

I think after this we can retire any notions of McConnell being a "master strategist". Dude is nothing but a shell full of dirty tricks and cheats, and has nothing when those fail.

he has no spine, even if he did vote NO on the final vote. he wanted to please everybody by voting YES the first time so it didn't die days ago. he put on a show to make a point and paint himself as a hero when he could've stood his ground prior to last night.

IIRC the reconciliation was on last year's budget. They still have this year's. Although I think they still need to pass a budget to get that.

Yes they have to first pass a budget for the new reconciliation window, which is another entirely different fight. And then GO back to healthcare after passing the budget. This will be well into the 2018 midterm campaign.

Who said anything about spine? I was pointing out a possible political maneuver. If McConnell got a whiff of McCain not standing with the Republicans in the end, he could have pulled the bill and we would still be in limbo.

I don't like most of McCain stances, but I can appreciate him playing both sides to put Freedom Bills out of their misery to force bipartisanship.

I'm not sure of the exact details but the obvious thing to do would be to just pass any budget for 2018, even Obama's last budget, and use reconciliation to shape it into whatever they want including tax reform. Then they could wrap it all up by this fall. But of course there are limitations there in scope and they can't increase the deficit, etc.
