Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will have premium currency/loot boxes

Well this just reinforces my prior decision to wait for a good sale before purchase. I bought the first game at launch and didn't get around to playing it until a year later so I think I'll wait until I get this for 50% off or more...

It will be half off or more by Thanksgiving weekend.

I'm out. I bought the first game at launch, it was mediocre with amazing potential for something really special. This is not what I meant when I thought that.

I really want this trend to stop, but people keep buying them when they're available, so of course everyone else will continue to copy this approach...

Gears 4 was ruined for me with all the loot box garbage.

People will buy it and this is the year when all AAA games have it. Except for Nintendo and some PC titles.

Fact of life. The era of gambling has begun.

On a even more serious note I really think government intervention is in order. This has gone too far and is out of control. These games are marketed towards kids and teens while avoiding all gambling regulation and law.

Seriously. It's time for some regulations.

I can't imagine this will have a huge impact on my experience with the game. Still, the sequel doesn't look improved enough to warrant money generating tactics like this.

Cancelling my preorder then. I'm not supporting this shit no matter how much I enjoyed the first one.

Developers who do these kinds of shit--purchasing stuff to obtain them faster--, I feel like they're spitting on their own handiwork, to be honest. It's like saying, oh these systems and gameplay that we made for you, they're worthless and time consuming so why not skip them and just buy the end reward with money to make you happier?

It feels like they have no pride in their own game.

For a single player game, this sort of stuff never really bothered me. But at the same time, I won't be touching any of it.

I'm excited for the game, but it'll be a solid summer sale game. October is the craziest month in a long while.
Same here, I don't like it but id rather have it in a single player game rather than an more game. I'd rather it didn't exist at all though. Maybe it will be like the mass effect 3 stuff? That wasn't too bad.

Will buy and play game without touching anything premium...

Anyone who's into this kind of thing... more power to ya...

Game looks badass... I'm not about to skip it over some optional purchases.

I will never understand the hate people have for optional in-game purchases.

Because their availability inevitably fucks over whatever progression system that exists outside of them. Sure you can earn in game currency for this, but it's going to be way slower than it would have without the microtransactions attached. They have no incentive to not fuck over progression in order to get you to pay money. We as consumers have no reason to trust them to make things fair when money is able to be exchanged for progress.

They need to announce free dlc. I hate the "have your cake and eat it too" mentality. A lot of games will have micros this year, but I believe this is the only one that will have a season pass on top of the micros. Except Destiny, but at least that's cosmetic micros. It's a disgusting practice.

Amiibo isn't gambling, minus maybe having to reset if you don't get the random Zelda item you want.

This is basically gambling. You pay money in the hopes you get items at or above the value (to you) of the money you just threw down. It is like throwing money down a bottomless hole.

Really, you have no idea how fast or slow the progression would have been sans-microtransactions.

The real question is- will players who dont buy MTs find the pacing enjoyable? The 'incentive' to not fuck over progression comes from a desire to sell the game to as many people as possible with full knowledge that most of them will NEVER even consider any in-game purchase.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
I was going to buy this.

Now it's a laugh and "pass".

It's fundamentally the same to me. It costs extra money and it alters gameplay.

The difference between loot boxes and typical DLC is that the former has a potential to become an ongoing cost on the gamers(depends on luck and whether new content is added), while the latter is simply people buying more content for their game, an one-time purchase to expand on the game that you like.

Amiibo belongs in the DLC category since it's an one-time purchase, even if you have to buy a whole bunch of them, they are still individually one-time purchase, I don't have to rebuy my inklings just because I scanned their NFC once.

Anyway, I assume you're one of those people who hated expansion packs back in the days those words still have meaning?

You all make me want to make DLC about complaining about DLC and the like.

I forgot that players can see the future when DLC or micros are involved.

I enjoyed the first game, will wait for deep discount on this one. $20 max.

I've been playing a bit of Phone Destroyer lately and I have a feeling loot crates will somehow make their way into Fractured but Whole. Not really related to this game, but I can see it happening more and more often with SP games.

Renting the shit out of this. It looks uninspired as hell and now loot boxes, maybe my least favorite game mechanic this generation.

On the flip side you can get all the content without paying real currency and we don't know much of grind it take at this point to do it in this game. We do know that you are locked out of Amiibo content forever unless you buy it. Both are bad.

Unless the execs are idiots this likely won't affect the progression of the game and is mainly targeted at impatient people with lots of disposable income.

Likely it will affect the progression. Of course hard to prove as we can only compare to games without but anyone assuming they don't design around their new revenue stream is incredibly naive. All f2p games do and mmo's fps games so why would they be any different. At the very least they put thought into it, first clue is that game probably doesn't allow cheats /console and spend time post launch patching exploits.

That's not typically a choice developers themselves make. It's often a publisher choice.

My experience with amiibo is brief, only Zelda and Splatoon 2, but in the former, I much prefer doing it without amiibo, while the items help, I feel they defeat the spirit of the game; while the latter, they aren't gears you can't get elsewhere, but I guess if you want them as fashion items, it could be annoying that they're locked behind amiibo.

They are still different from loot boxes though.

This whataboutism is just plain silly here.
