These generalizations are incredibly annoying and it is really difficult for me to resist the urge to quote your name for this post.

I supported Bernie and I would have no qualms doing so again, but I am also under no illusion that Nazis are absolutely unsympathetic scum, the worst of our society. It's incredibly irritating to be labeled a "Berniebro" when I'm not even a "bro" (I'm non-binary) nor white (I'm SE asian) and getting actions attributed to me that I never supported.

I might add, he is 100% one of their own. He was a member of a right wing hate group, he likely posted on the likes of the_donald or /pol/, or other trash sites, he spammed frog memes online like all of them.

Instantly they turn on him and try to disown him after first trying to falsely blame an innocent left leaning person, once there's no way to deny he did the crime they suddenly swarm him and claim he's not one of them. Now they're trying to claim he's a Jew and thus an "enemy", 24 hours after he was marching with their shitty shields yelling Nazi slogans.

They are fundamentally cowards who can't accept responsibility, and yet none of them will see the lesson. That could have been any one of them who was turned on, there is no loyalty there, they aren't allies or friends, to these people everyone is your enemy, including the guy next to you also in a white hood.
None of them will take any lesson that they are among toxic company.

Violence is absolutely necessary to promote and defend social causes. Everything grows from threat of force - it's the most imminent and most total motivation that "the average person" has at their disposal. When you reach this point, it's clear that nonviolence has failed.

Doesn't mean people have to be so excited about it. WWII was entirely right and necessary, but when you reach the point where picking up a rifle and gunning down human beings is the best of all possible choices? That's not a position you should want to be in. That's a position you should be lamenting. You shouldn't WANT to do it.

Now, I have the advantage of being able to keep the imminent threat of white supremacy at arm's length. I'm not black, I'm not Jewish, I'm not gay. So I can't really speak to the visceral emotional response of seeing an oppressor being immediately punished for their sins.

Sure, I've wanted to hurt people, and see people be hurt. But isn't that sort of satisfaction rooted more in sadism than anything else? Is that really a drive we should be embracing?

Violence should be treated as a necessary evil, not as a sport to cheer on.

You must have missed the part where we stated no one wants violence but it's the only way to stop this. No one is giddy about this and no one is cheering it on. It's the last thing anyone wants. If you don't believe me, the fact we haven't resorted to violence YET shows how reluctant we have been in addressing this issue.

You don't, and I don't, but I don't think either of us can say "we" and speak for the entire progressive movement. I don't think people are sitting on the sidelines waiting for things to go off the rails, then clapping when it does. Or that it's even a majority that I'm talking about. I just think a lot of people see violence against people they don't like - violence that is, like I said, probably necessary - and they enjoy it. And I just think we should be cautious about normalization.

Nobody is demanding that anybody join in on violence, but rather, people are understandably miffed at all the fence sitting high road moderate do nothings who preach that violence is never the answer, because historically violence works quite well against literal fucking nazis.

Also in the case of Nazis and the KKK they really should be illegal groups. Freedom of speech shohldn't ve a shield for these guys, as they're terrorist organizations.

Putting "neo" in front of the term Nazi shouldn't take away from the fact that this is the continuation of a genocidal organization that murdered millions of innocent people. The KKK commited numerous murders of black people, and killed civil rights workers. They still occasionaly commit acts of terror.

While I seriously doubt anyone in this thread will become violent vigilantes anytime soon, if the government doesn't deal with these domestic terrorists it's something that's going to become a thing.
