Roman Polanski Accused of Sexual Abuse by Another Woman

A third woman came forward Tuesday to accuse Roman Polanski of sexual assault when she was a minor, 40 years after he went on the run for raping another girl.

The woman, identified only as Robin, told a news conference in Los Angeles she was “sexually victimized” by the legendary French-Polish film director when she was 16, in 1973.

“The day after it happened, I did tell one friend that Mr Polanski had done that to me,” she said, reading from a prepared statement.

“The reason, with this exception, that I kept it to myself is that I didn’t want my father to do something that might cause him to go to prison for the rest of his life.”

Robin said she was prompted to come forward after the victim at the center of a rape case against the famed director recently urged authorities to put the case to rest.

What is the statute of limitations on rape charges anyways? Its probably passed at this point.

Come on guys, you need to separate the art from the artist.
fuck him and anyone who supports him knowing what he did and how he has avoided responsibility ever since

But his films tho!

Real talk: the only piece of footage I've ever given this stain is 'Macbeth' - because I was 14, in school, being forced to watch for SATs. Only afterwards did I learn what a piece of shit he is. Based on that film, is he really even worth the praise he gets for his actual craft?

How is this guy still walking around? Didn't he just recently release a film?

He lives in a non-extradition country (he has dual citizenship in Poland and France), and despite the controversy that's dogged him since the trial, he is still a well respected director that actors like to work with, even if his general qualities as a human being are, and I'm being as nice as I can be, a bit fucking suspect.

He's not in the US. And I think has avoided extradition too over the years

And yeah I think his last movie came out earlier this year in Cannes

Uh...yeah? His Macbeth could arguably be the best Shakespeare movie. Rosemarys Baby and Chinatown are masterpieces, Repulsion, the Pianist, Ghost Writer etc.

He's certainly a piece of crap but considering your question about his craft he's unfortunately one of the GOATs

I remember listening to Tarantino defend him once. Didn't deny he did it. Chalked it up to a difference in cultures. Its still there in the back of my mind any time I enjoy a Tarantino flick.

I don't get the defense of him by Hollywood. I mean he made some good movies, no argument there, but as a person you cannot defend him.

Yeah, some of his films are masterpieces. He's a horrible human being, but he made fantastic cinema in his prime.

It irks me that this is the response; not in that you guys see how good his films are, but that masterpieces come from a guy like that. If I were a lesser man I'd try and separate art from artist and finally watch one, but not something I can. Usually, I'd argue no loss as entertainment and art can be found all over the place from people who aren't paedophiles or any other type of scum, but it does sting a bit more to know his prestige in film-making isn't hyperbole.

As always now is a good time to post a list of all the celebrities that signed a petition urging for his release after he was arrested in Switzerland

Woody Allen
Wes Anderson
Asia Argento
Darren Aronofsky
Monica Bellucci
Terry Gilliam
Wong Kar Waï
David Lynch
Michael Mann

Lots more there, but those are some of the more prominent name. Also, special shout out to scumbag extraordinaire Johnny Depp who defended him on video

Damn, I didn't know that. Yeah, it's remarkable that actors are comfortable around him. I think I saw pictures of him with Eva Green (don't know what the film was, but it must have been his latest).

Edit: That list above...I didn't know so many prominent figures supported him.

On top of Hollywood's own problematic history with sexual abuse that gets thrown to the margins, he's got two major sources of goodwill that can't be "taken away from him":

-he was a Holocaust survivor and lost his mother at Auschwitz

-his second wife was Sharon Tate, who was viciously murdered by the Manson Family while pregnant with his child

I am not going to be the guy to say that his rape of Samantha Gailey overrides what he's gone through in his life, but I will take him for what he is: a man who had to overcome some of the most horrific things that can happen to a human being, only to succumb and commit one himself. He is a brilliant artist, and he is also a bad person.

At this rate I need a list of celebrities and filmmakers who don't support his release. Christ.

Yeah, his life, probably to the misfortune of singular categorization, has... many angles.

With that said, all the best for the victim.

The only smallest speck of defense i can understand is the judge changing his mind on the plea deal after accepting it. But you know, maybe you don't rape a kid and you don't have to deal with that shit?
