Destiny 2 PC performance thread

Probably going to look into getting an 8700K and GTX 1080 Ti for this game (just sold my rig with a 6800K and GTX 1080). Is anyone running it at 4K with a 1080 Ti?

I am. I run the game maxed out except I traded MSAA for SMAA and 3DAO for HDAO.

It's not a locked 60 fps. I get fps drops to lower 50 fps during heavy fights but it doesn't happen frequently. In fact, it happens once during the entire strike. Most of the time, you end up with 58-60 fps during exploration and 55-60 fps during most fights. If someone can suggest reducing a setting that could make it a locked 60 fps while being imperceptible to the eyes, I would appreciate it.

Spec is the following:

Latest Nvidia drivers
Win 10 64 bits
3770K @ 4.7ghz
16GB RAM DDR3 @ 2002 mhz
EVGA 1080TI black edition OC core 2062 mhz mem 12050 mhz

Is it that much of a resource hog for little gain?

It's broken in this release, one of the notes before the beta started was that MSAA implementation isn't final and the current state is way more intensive than it will be at release.

Edit:

Any way to use PS4 controllers + gyro with the game? I usually use Steam but I can't figure out a way to launch the game with a steam controller config.

Something must be getting in the way. Your comment about Shadowplay had me thinking that maybe it'll also only work in a window mode, but the OSD displays for me when using exclusive fullscreen, too.

Nah RTSS still doesn't work in windowed.

I only have discord, steam and afterburner/rtss running. Same as always.

I deleted all profiles except "global" and every other game is working just fine with RTSS. It is only destiny that has issues.

No idea what is going on.

I guess I'll take some ss

Edit: After restarting my PC shadowplay works in fullscreen. RTSS still doesn't work.

i5-3570K/GTX 970/16 GB and the game is locked at 60 FPS at 1080p, with everything on High and FSAA. It looks glorious, especially with HDR enabled.

The problem I want to see if I can manage 1440p, but it's not working properly. I tested it out for a bit, and it seems to be handling it at 60 FPS, but HDR is disabled (even though it's on in the menu). Also, if I go to Fullscreen, it scales things down and the image doesn't take up the whole screen (black bars on all sides). When I do Windowed Fullscreen, it does go fullscreen, but HDR doesn't work. Any ideas? I'm using a 55" Samsung KS8000 set (4K) as my monitor.

FPS is 70-80, very rarely dipping just below 60. Very happy,

It's probably the high DPI scaling.

Right click the exe in the installation folder go to prpperties and click the ignore high dpi settings option or whatever it's called I think should do it.

Latest nvidia drivers.

I don't even have it on an SSD at the moment.

1440p 100% max settings except I turned AA down to FXAA because SMAA looks like oil was smudged on my screen and Bungie said MSAA isn't performing great at the moment. It is almost always above 60fps and whenever it does drop, my GSync monitor picks that up and makes it unnoticeable.

This is easily one of the best PC ports I have ever seen. I'm completely blown away at the quality of the port and all of the extra settings they gave us in the options.

This is absolutely the definitive way to play Destiny 2.

I don't see why a special setup would be necessary. Does the game disable controls for one or the other? It seems like this would work best with something like a Move controller.

Yeah, there is a delay whenever switching between inputs.

So, if I am using the mouse, the game sets to kb+m, then when I press a button on the controller there is 1-2 seconds of lag where it switches to a controller scheme.

That is the issue.

I have RTSS 7.0.0.19 and it worked okay.

And MSI Afterburner is 4.3.0.

That's actually the same version of RTSS I have I think, beta 19. Could be something to that. Only other thing I can think of is the detection level being above "Low"; my guess is the game is very sensitive to any form of hooks.

Some lower end report. Office rig is i5-4590 3.5GHz, GTX 960 4GB @ 1480MHz, 16GB DDR3 1600 RAM, getting locked 60fps at 1080p with medium settings, SMAA and high textures, GPU usage is almost always above 85% so don't think there is headroom for higher settings, might try pusing texture to highest since it only uses ~1.8GB at high.

I can't change the resolution or get my mouse to work. This is driving me crazy. I've never had so much trouble with a pc game and everyone else is talking about how great it is. So frustrating

Does the game not liking hooks mean that razer synapse doesn't work?

I usually turn the in game sensitivity as low as possible so that there aren't any software layers of interference so I can just fine tune everything with synapse. But when I did that here, the mouse turned into a sloth no matter how high I cranked the sensitivity in synapse.

Then when I turned up the sensitivity in game to 2 it seemed like I had gone straight to 10.

I cannot for the life of me get my TV to display this game in it's native 1080p resolution in exclusive fullscreen. I've tried both suggestions in the OP.
Find the exe in the game directory, right click and select properties, go to compatibility options, and uncheck the checkbox relating to High DPI scaling. Fixed it for me.
This doesn't work for me. No matter how many times I uncheck that box, it doesn't save. I boot up the game, it makes no difference, I close the game, check the properties again, and the box is back to being checked.

Thank you for the suggestion, didn't work for me unfortunately. However I figured out the problem or at least a workaround and part of the problem was probably me haha

I was mixing up the Borderless Windowed and Fullscreen Windowed options. I'm used to seeing "Borderless Fullscreen" so I assumed Borderless Windowed meant the usual. Nope, it seems to display the game in a smaller window without the border. Fullscreen Windowed does what I expected "Borderless Fullscreen" to do -- fill the screen with the window. Switching to Fullscreen Windowed forced 1080p for me regardless what resolution was selected. If unchecking the high contrast option in the .exe doesn't work I recommend trying this mode.

As for performance, after switching from MSAA to SMAA I got solid 60 on everything maxed. Feels amazing!

Running on:
980Ti 6GB
i7 6700K @ 4GHz
This "works," but the resolution is still listed incorrectly when using "Fullscreen Windowed" and that drives me up the wall. Borderless Windowed is the only setting I can get to display my TV's native resolution correctly.

No issues with my monitor though, it displays it's native resolution perfectly in Fullscreen or either Borderless setting, along with the DSR resolutions I have set up. My monitor is connected via DVI and my TV is by HDMI if that makes a difference.

For some reason I can't choose 3840 x 2160 only 2560 x 1600.

Got HDR working after messing around with Nvidia control panel and options a bit.

Oh... Is it because HDMI can't handle the bandwidth of 4k and HDR at 60fps?

Thanks but that didn't work, unfortunately. The same thing happens. I'll see what I can figure out.

For those with minimum specs on the fence:

i5-2400
8gb ram
GTX 760 2gb

Medium/mid-tier options everything, max fov, 1080p @60fps constant and smooth - looks very similar to the PS4 beat (actually crisper in terms of fidelity) and with that buttery smooth framerate.

Seems to be pretty well optimized, so really no reason not to get it on PC if you have a decent rig!

5820k No Overclock + GTX1060 6GB + 32GB ram = Locked 60fps @ 1080p with everything max. Haven't checked what it can do unlocked, I only have a 60hz monitor.

Just played through the intro levels and am very impressed with the performance.

Ran it at 3840 x 2160 with a mixture of Highest and High settings (shadows Medium) and FXAA and it held 60 FPS the majority of the time. FreeSync helped make the infrequent dips into the 50s unnoticeable.

Ryzen 7 1700x @ 3.4 Ghz (no overclock at the moment)
Radeon Vega 64
32GB DDR4 3000 RAM
Windows 10

I'm going to load up the game on my other rig with a 144 hz G-Sync monitor (1080p) and see if I can't max everything out and get 100+ FPS. It's running a i7 6700k and GTX 1080.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Hmm, even with HDR off I can't set the proper resolution.

I need to put it in windowed fullscreen.

Ah, yeah, the game not offering proper native resolution support on some displays is a known issue and using Windowed Fullscreen is one of the two possible workarounds that have been found thus far (both are in the OP if you want to try your luck with the other one).

Being able to play destiny on a laptop is crazy. The higher frame rates and responsiveness are awesome. Most of my friends will be on PS4 though :/

Decisions. Decisions.

Ah, so I can do 4K with HDR on (just as a test, too sluggish), and 1080p with HDR runs great, but 1440p will not work with HDR on. I have to disable HDR to get it to show as fullscreen. Sounds like a bug? From what I tried though, it was running well at 1440p (w/o HDR) even on a GTX 970, so looking forward to trying that out with HDR.

anyone know what time the open beta launches? Will we be able to download it right from the blizz launcher without signing up anywhere else or anything?

I've wanted Destiny on PC for years and glad it's finally here and running well. I'm getting between 70-90FPS on a 980ti at 1440p, mostly high settings with some tweaks. I was going to upgrade to a 1080ti for the full release but pleased with the performance as it is. I'll be playing tons of the console versions at their launch but I think PC looks too good not to switch.

Same problem with Hitman 2016... I think HDR need 1080 or 2160p in render to work ...

If yes , we really need a upscaling thing in PC ...

Why? Why does it just keep crashing on me? It seems to perform just fine and then just suddenly crashes just a couple minutes in every freaking time!

I really want to play this with you guys and I can't even get past the intro!

I've tried like 10 times now.

I think it is a bug. HDR on W10 is a real hit and miss affair. Certainly since the Creators Update. Some work, some don't. Some at all resolutions, some with only few. There's supposed to be a fix in the Fall Windows 10 update. Maybe things will improve and make HDR more stable and reliable.

Anti-aliasing and motion blur off, everything else is maxed out and I'm getting an average of around 80fps, dipped into 60 once or twice that I saw.

I can't believe how well it runs.

edit: 382.05 - I should probably update and play again.

Textures on the highest, fxaa, af16, everything else on high except for sun shafts and the one above it on med. Motion blur and chromatic bullshit off like a decent human being.

80-150fps...pc gaming is a fucking God send . this game at 30fps..why would you even.

I'm able to run 4k HDR with AA off and everything set to high except for texture quality. Vsync off as well

Getting 65-80 FPS

1700x
MSI 1080 TI gaming X
16GB RAM
SSD

Everything set to stock speeds.

The game seems to run more consistent in 4k than it does in 1440p

Those settings are way too aggressive. Read the tooltips, some of them explicitly state to not enable them unless you're having issues.

Disable Custom Direct3D support and lower Application Detection Level to Low.

Lowering the application detection level did the trick, working perfectly now. thx! :D

The AA level with a controller is hilarious.

Just tried on my other computer with a 6700k and GTX 1080 and easily got 120 ~ 144 FPS almost constantly through the strike with everything maxed out at 1080p except AA set to FXAA.

Definitely a really well optimized game here.

Anyone getting random lockups while playing? Game is seemingly running smooth and it will just freeze my whole PC for like 5 seconds at random intervals. Not even just the game either, as Discord freezes too.
