shit

I could see on TV it was bad, but goddamn. Also, note that it looks like over half the fans at StubHub's stadium are wearing turquoise.

Fuck the NFL and fuck Jerry Jones for blackballing San Antonio getting a team. Texas can support 3 pro football teams far better than LA has proven it can't, and even though Austin will never have a pro team due to UT's stranglehold on the city it would definitely support a San Antonio club.

Said it a decade ago, should've become the San Antonio Chargers.
LA is a fucking embarrassment and I just don't know how these owners don't remember that there was a reason that there was no LA NFL team for nearly 2 decades.

Looking at the schedule, oddly the Eagles have 3 home games in a row during a crucial stretch.

It is against the Skins, 49ers, and Broncos. If they are to make a run, they need to win all 3 of these.

If the Colts lose to the Browns next week, I get the feeling Andrew Luck will "regress" and be out for the season. And then we'll see just how many games the Colts can lose (all of them).

Which will make me sad as a season ticket holder, but I'll understand and look forward to 2018. Refreshed Andrew Luck, hopefully a bounty of draft picks, and a new head coach.

Luck needs to miss the season, can't keep saving Pagano's job.

Ahead of tonight's latest attempt by the Giants to get Eli Manning killed by criminal negligence, rambling thoughts...

I like to think of NFL rosters in terms of plus, zero, minus. A plus is a player/unit adding good value to your team (strength), a zero is a spot where you can upgrade but its a luxury more than necessity (middle), and a minus is a spot where your team enters the offseason actively looking to upgrade this to a plus or zero (weakness).

As an example, I'd give the Giants three minuses on the offensive line, a zero for Richberg, and a plus/zero for Pugh depending on my mood.
Hart, Flowers, and Jerry are all minus x infinity, but this is a purposefully simple view

Anyway, in the NFL today, how many plus defensive fronts are there, in terms of pass rush (primary consideration for sure) and stopping the run (i.e. discarding linebacker coverage)? You know, true team strengths.

Seattle
Arizona
LA Rams
Minnesota
Carolina
Tampa Bay
Atlanta
NY Giants
Philly
Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Cincinnati
Houston
Jacksonville (eh)
Denver
San Diego
Kansas City

This list leaves off a number of teams I probably should include, like Green Bay and Tennessee and Oakland (more of a one-man play with a lead show), but that's still over half the damn league.

How many plus offensive lines are there?
Dallas
Philly (eh)
Green Bay (eh)
New England (eh)
Buffalo
Baltimore (before Yanda)
Pittsburgh
Cleveland (eh)
Tennessee (eh)
Kansas City
Oakland

That's 11 teams, and the parentheticals reveal how I'm struggling to add to the list: Wentz got beat to shit yesterday by KC, GB has always struck me as lifted by Rodgers's release time and mobility, Baltimore admittedly more of a reputation inclusion, and Cleveland's about on-paper talent for now.

If you went through all 32 teams you'd probably have a lot more defensive fronts that were team strengths or on the road to becoming team strengths than offensive lines, and a shit ton more OLs that are clear team weaknesses than their defensive counterparts.

The trend of more, better athletes going over to the defensive side of the ball and college OL play getting more and more ridiculous has shown up strong to start this season, after several years in the making, and the trend isn't going to magically reverse.

This was a waste of lunch time, for sure.

All 3 of those are doable, and luckily right after that is our bye week. Skins are a divisional game so who knows what'll happen but I think we can win, especially since it's at home. The Eagles should handle the 9ers. The Broncos is the big toss up. Their defense is going to cause havoc for our OL, and on the flip side our DL has to dominate to slow down CJ, Sanders, and Thomas. However, given that it's in Philly I think the Eagles can pull it off. If it was in Mile High I'd give them no chance.

I actually think a big run is going to be the games before that. Giants, Chargers, Cards, Panthers. The Eagles can win all of those games and set themselves up well in those home games. The Chargers and Panthers are the two likely losses I see there. If the Giants OL doesn't get better and Old Man Palmer doesn't have a resurgence, the Eagles should take those games

Chargers, Vikings, Saints and Raiders what could have been. I was pulling hard for the raiders Shit would have been a match made in heaven with spurs colors. I've given up on NFL in SA, bring on MLS!

New strategy for the NFL: tell viewers that every Sunday Night game is the second coming of Brady and Manning.

Primetime football needs to go. Give the fans three additional 4:00 PM games so we don't have to watch west coast trash. We need more east coast trash football later in the day.

My god that Broncos game is going to be brutal. Watch it be like a 6-3 kind of game. I shudder at the thought of the Eagles OL trying to slow down Von.

They could win all those games but I can just as easily see two losses. The trips to LA and Carolina will be thought but I think the Chargers are bad and the Eagles should be able to beat them. They HAVE to beat the Giants if they wish to compete in the division and the Cardinals are a mystery still.

Give me 2-2 or 3-1 for those 4 and then win all 3 at home.

Great now more hot takes from both sides. The left will claim victory, influencing ratings because Kap doesn't have a job! The right will say this is a result of the liberal agenda and how ppl are fed up with the NFL.

Not surprising really

Football has started to lose its appeal to me. Feels like the games aren't as exciting as they used to be? I just don't feel compelled to watch 4 quarters of every game anymore

It was competing against the Emmys this year. The NFL's Week 2 SNF ratings have been shit ever since the Emmys moved to September 2 years ago.

It's why the Packers always get week 2 SNF: the NFL views them as the best chance to compete against the Emmys

Probably due to airing opposite the emmys.

The NFL has enough quality players to support about 2/3rds of the teams currently in the league.

Holy shit the hot takes in here from the low ratings. The emmys always take away a lot of SNF viewers. It will be back to normal next week.

Who will be playing QB for the Vikings next week?

They genuinely think all that's needed is for the swelling to go down and that Sam could play

Which of course should be answered with "if the only problem was his already-previously-torn-twice ACL got swollen during or after a game where he wasn't hit once, what's the plan for when he actually gets hit"

The Cardinals always play the Cowboys strong, especially in University of Phoenix Stadium. Dem Boyz better not think they are just going to roll in with an easy W. Cards have won the last 4 meetings.

Ravens are already beginning to break my heart. Another dominating defensive performance is balanced out by the loss of Yanda (arguably the best guard in the league), our 15th player on IR through 2 weeks. That makes 2 starters from our OL as well as our top 2 backups on the OL being out as well. The line play will likely go to shit, and make it even harder on Joe Flacco who does not have the skills or talent to make up for it.

What can make up for it? That defense. 10 points allowed and 10 takeaways so far, and they just got that look. The signings to the secondary (Jefferson and Carr) are not disappointing, old man Sizzle is beasting, and the rotation of pass rushers and linebackers is deep. Tyus Bowser and Tim Williams have looked good, as have a bunch of 2nd and 3rd year players on the defense.

Next week will be interesting, because no matter how bad Jacksonville is, they play the Ravens tough. Their pass rush will definitely test the depleted line right away. Having said that, the Ravens D against Bortles might yield another 10 takeaways. I expect a shit offensive game from both, but a Ravens victory.

Agreed completely. Really glad Twitter's no longer showing games so there's less opportunity to watch boring/bad games

That game could decide a wild card berth down the road. It's a big one.

Should be a good game, the teams feel pretty evenly matched. If Rhodes can handle Evans than we are in trouble.
