Golf Story coming exclusively to Switch September 2017

I don't know that I would call this a shitshow, it's just some excited people looking for a solid date

I mean no solid date like a week or two before it's supposed to happen is certainly odd. Not sure I'd call it a "shitshow" but it's unusual for sure.

Also have they announced the price yet? I searched a bit and didn't see anything.

Not actually that important
Calling a game a hoax is the stupidest thing I've seen people do on this forum lately

Seriously. "Hoax", do you guys even know what such word implies?
And in 12+ years as a member I've seen it all, yet somehow people here still manage to make me shake my fucking head on a daily basis.

Just recently played through Mario Golf for the GBA and got totally addicted to it.

I hate golf as a sport but it makes for great videogames.

Details from a Game Informer article cut + pasted from the Nintendo download thread. Hadn't seen these here and it's giving me much higher hopes for greatness.

- features a serious story that plays out over 8 different courses
- each environment features courses, towns, characters, and secrets
- you can drop a ball at any time and hit it
- towns have practice greens and challenges
- also play traditional golf and compete in tournaments
- your golfer is on a quest to go pro
- you need to level up to improve stats and equipment
- blades make your distances more consistent, but are more punishing on inaccurate hits
- digging wedge can be used to dig up treasures, old golf clubs, and more
- storytelling and challenges can play into your golf game
- saving a family of turtles at one point can have them turn up on a course to help you
- there will also be puzzle solving, drone fights, geocaching, mini-golf, and mowing
- mowing is done to fix up a course to make it tournament-ready
- the first chapter involves mowing, researching course maintenance, taking care of critters which might be possessed, and convincing a celebrity golfer to compete
- one part of the game has you dealing with ghosts haunting a course
- you take on a ghost challenge where you have to complete his course
- in this section, you have to find each tee to play the hole
- ghosts will try to use your golfing abilities to their benefit
- gators will try to steal your golf balls
- you'll have to light your golf ball on fire to melt ice blocks concealing some holes
- HD rumble used on and off the golf course
- will be releasing in "just a few weeks"

Agree with this. I was lucky enough that my mum got us Mario Golf on Game Boy when I was just a toddler and I put an unusual amount of time on both that and the NES golf game that released as an Ambassador 3DS title

Nice details but "just a few weeks" is literally the very tail end of September.

The marketing is very poor for a game that looks very interesting. It's supposedly out in 2-3 weeks yet we know almost nothing about how the game plays, no gameplay/video impressions, etc.

“Few” weeks makes me think it’ll be more than 2 away, so most likely mid-October.
Game Informer probably wrote the article last month, and September has been repeatedly stated in Nintendo's official streams.

But you are more than likely right in that it got pushed to October. Still a possibility for September, though.

It doesn't really make me think fondly of the game that they announced the release date (almost) within the same month it's supposed to release and we're more than halfway through and we don't have a date. All while showing us almost nothing of the game. Who does that?

The developers of Pocket Rumble.

Still can't believe that PR was meant to be released back in March on Switch.

Nintendo should've stepped in and helped these guys just like how Sony is helping the guy behind Lost Soul Aside.

Chucklefish with Stardew Valley:

As he said, they can either set a specific date and then it will release on that date even if it passes nintendos checks early, or they can have no date and then set it as ASAP as soon as the checks are passed. The second option is what stardew valley has gone with, and it seems pretty likely that thats what Golf Story has done too.

It's nothing new that eShop releases get solid release dates announced very late. Severed on Switch was announced the same day it was released. Overcooked! was released just a few days after the actual release date was known. And so on. It's no anomaly on the eShop.

Not showing footage is also nothing new (even though it probably doesn't do good for the game). For example, Robonauts (released last week) had extremely little footage available before release, and that was a solid game. That game had a developer web site, though.

I'm more concerned if review codes aren't sent out in time for reviews to appear when the game launches. Lack of reviews on release day might hurt a game release.

Thought this was bumped with a release date.

Sadness.

Game Informer has some new information, including the fact that the game will be at TGS. Summary via GoNintendo here.

This sounds like it's very near the end of September. Fair enough, SteamWorld Dig 2 is coming out the day after tomorrow anyway.

I wonder how huge Golf Story is though. Is it big enough to play it until Mario hits or do we have to pray for Stardew to come out and fill that October gap?

I remember reading on Reddit that it's out this week (Thu). Hope it's true.

Unless there´s brand new info it isn´t true. This was just a guy guessing that it will release this thursday since September only has two possible release Dates left. Somehow this guess made a round on reddit and other sites.

Not only that but we also have Steamworld Dig 2 and Thimbleweed Park releasing on the same day. I feel that would be unnecessary overkill (but I intend to buy both and am interested in Golf Story :D).

If it were to release in September, next week would be more likely with only the Mario Arcade Archives and Conga Master Party being scheduled for release on Thursday.

That was actually a speculative post from a private gaming server that someone on reddit thought meant a confirmation.

So we finally get to see gameplay of it soon, it's totally getting delayed (or surprise September 29th release) but I just hope it'll launch before Mario Odyssey.

It can't be considered a surprise release at September 29, when the Nintendo Direct just six days ago said "September".
