Well, he gets things done.
Final Fantasy XV would be a 2020 game if Nomura was still its director.

Is OP a "weeaboo"?

Word on the Internet, he's got a thing for yandere types fam.
Now that you mention it, its development was also a mess, in spite of that one being his baby from the start. Crisis Core, however, apparently didn't have any specific development issues (seemed divisive, but I do recall the player reception being more positive by comparison).Type-0 was free of dev issues?

The only reason this hack gets any praise is because people seems to have some irrational hate for Nomura, so they praise the guy who "finished" one of his games because he got something done. Talk about low standards.
The reality is that Tabata sucks. Type-0 and The 3rd Birthday are straight up trash.
Both of those games had fun gameplay, though...The reality is that Tabata sucks. Type-0 and The 3rd Birthday are straight up trash.
Nomura was the one who wanted to make The Third Birthday and Toriyama was also involved in the creation of the game, and the project itself originated as a mobile game just like Type-0. It was also a join collaboration between Hexadrive and Square Enix so strictly not an internal project.I keep forgetting he was involved with The 3rd Birthday. Yikes.

3rd Birthday is to PE what Metroid Other M is to the Metroid series.Type 0 is bad. Is 3rd Birthday much worse?

There is no reason to single out Tabata for the mess of Third Birthday.
He's a generally likable guy to be the face of the game but I don't like him where it counts, design and direction.
He's kinda opposite of Toriyama I think. You can hate that guy easily, he said a lot of shit publicly and in the end he was going crazy with his waifu but the games he put out were honestly way more fun than FF15 or any of Tabata's other games with their own unique identity and vision with much less stupid nonsensical design decisions.
Why couldn't the thread title have just been "Is Hajime Tabata a genius?"
Hajime Tabata: Takes a vaporware game that was stuck in development hell, whose public perception had gone from infinite hype to a neutral perception, and gets it out the door. Game reception is mixed, but overall positive. He manages to do the bare minimum: Not embarrass the Final Fantasy brand. He is also patching this game over time to resolve story issues... but most of those patches come in the form of paid DLC. He has nearly 12 years working on just the Final Fantasy series itself, and this includes big name titles known in the east and west like Crisis Core and Type-0.
Contrast this with
Naoki Yoshida: Is presented a game that went through not only development hell, but also launched to an embarrassing reception. A game that is also infinitely more complex to manage and develop than a single player RPG. He attempts to fix this game as is with patches. He actually manages to make a fairly decent game out of the literal pile of dung he was handed. Realizes that to make this game into a good one, he must destroy it first, something completely unprecedented in the gaming industry to this day. He does so. He then takes this game, which went through dev hell, failed at launch, and puts it through ANOTHER development hell, but also manages to get his product to launch. His product is so good that it manages to almost completely wipe away the failure it used to be. His product is in fact so good that even still, people are still calling it the best modern Final Fantasy. He has similar overall development experience to Tabata, but has only actually worked on Final Fantasy for 4 years.
The Final Fantasy MMO bias still lives on it appears.

His praiseworthy trait appears to be "releases games on budget and schedule." And I mean... you could say the same about Toriyama. On the strengths outlined in the OP, this thread could have just as easily been about him. Is he a divine genius too? Comparing him to Kojima, like what even is this? For real? Being more competent than Nomura is barely a claim to fame, let alone tensai.
Personal opinions below:
I have said it multiple times already but I'll say it again.
FFXV is the worst game of the main series.
Also, Tabata's previous work, FF Type-0 was terrible as well, mostly the last part.
I think that says enough and in my opinion he shouldn't be allowed to direct any other big entry, at least for the time being.
Points against FFXV:
-No story (also no character attachment). <- This is extremely big for me in any game, hence my dissatisfaction with FFXV.
-Bad graphics (including bad character movement).
-No cutscenes (or even lip sync like FFXIII).
-Awful battle system (including awful magic system design and Summons).
Also other stuff that I probably forgot since I last played it when it came out.
FF14 has its share of design issues that have frustratingly already been solved by other MMO's many years ago, and Yoshi-P shows a growing lack of knowledge of both the MMO sphere and his own game in almost every interview he does.
Currently he's ignored so many base issues with the game that Stormblood made the ARR grind somehow more bland and even more of a chore, we're getting less content per patch than Heavensward, and class balance/design is a total mess.
He can't be praised for ARR forever and keep getting a pass on dropping the ball on expansion rollouts and taking a year or more to get them back up to snuff.
