What's the speed of that emulation?

The same as WiiSXR on the original Wii, some games runs pretty much full speed: Mega Man X4, Mega Man X5, Castlevania SotN, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Xenogears, Metal Gear. The only problem I detected is that FMVs doesn't have audio in some games. Other games like Resident Evil, Tenchu don't boot. So either runs pretty well or doesn't boot at all :p

I have the WiiVC/Gamecube injection process locked down, however...

What do I need to do to my WiiU/vWii part and what do I need to put on my SD card and so on and so forth, to get this injected and now installed game to my usb drive actually running?

I already have Haxchi installed and fully working.

For both Wii and GCN VC you need download latest Wii VC injector, it will guide you through the whole process.

For GCN injection you also need to have latest version of nintendont in your SD.
sd:/apps/nintendont/boot.dol

Just rename the file from "loader.dol" to "boot.dol"

I created a thread to create the banners/icon for your injections, maybe there's one you like :)

Guess I DON'T have the injection part locked down... the 3 Wii games I've tried and installed so far, all just go to black screen. I assumed I had missed something on the actual WiiU or SD since they didn't work after starting them.

Will try some Gamecube games in the meanwhile

What version of the injector you used for Wii games?

The Wii injects were from the same region as your Wii U?

v2.1.2, and...... OH CRAP >_<

Completely forgot about PAL vs NTSC ^^

One of the games were OFC Fatal Frame 4 with the fanmade english patch added, NTSC Wii game on PAL Wii U/vWii mode, the other two were also NTSC >_<

Edit:
All my Wii consoles and games are NTSC, Wii U is PAL though...

Will a GameCube adapter work with injected GameCube games? Or are we stuck with the game pad for now?
Yes, it works :)

You just need disable gamepad mode before starting the game, gamepad will be always asigned to p1, you can use gcn controllers with the adapter while in gamepad mode, but you need connect them in p2, p3, p4.

Hey guys, I could use a little help with Gamecube injection; I've got it semi-working, which is somehow worse than it not working at all :p

I'd been using the inject script with autoboot enabled, and just got a black screen every time (with latest Nintendont loader and options set etc.). Decided to try it with autoboot disabled and it works fine - and after I launch and exit the inject without autoboot, suddenly the one with autoboot starts working too, which is confusing to say the least. Injects of other games with autoboot enabled work too as well.

It's the same image (1:1 of Super Mario Sunshine) in both cases, so that's not the problem - I'm guessing it's something to do on the Nintendont config end, and starting up the autoboot disabled inject modifies the settings so it works somehow. I'll be damned if I can figure out what though!

Cheers!

It's possible to patch NTSC games to run in PAL and vice versa for the most part. Though if you're playing on the TV it shouldn't matter , most PAL TVs from the last 15 years or so support NTSC mode.

Nintendont save the configuration in nincfg.bin file, the only way to edit this file is through nintendont menu itself.

Go to settings and disable "force widescreen" as this patch is known for brake some games, also disable "force progressive scan" just leave "wii u widescreen" on; if you want widescreen, after you are done with settings start whatever game you have, then exit, that's the only way to save the new settings.

Yeah, I know worked for the NTSC games I tried, but not Fatal Frame 4, must be my patching in the english stuff that breaks something, will have to try the iso out on a real Wii to see it it works at all.

Same thing happened to me today with the same game. Unfortunately, I'm in the process of moving all my games to a new HDD, so I can't try what TunaLover suggested at the moment.

I'll try with a different config and other games tomorrow and report back!

Damn, this thing move fast lol, now you can boot some vWii apps in overclock mode, it's practically the same clock speed as Wii U mode!

I ripped all my Wii games to wbfs over the weekend, just waiting for the dust to settle because yeah, things are progressing really fast. My Wii games are a mix of all 3 regions (I bought whatever was cheapest at the time) which seems to complicate things as Mithos found out.

Can't you just use "RegionFrii" and "Wii ISO Renamer" to patch the region of non-native games?

some big developments lately. i'll still wait until the dust settles a bit since things seem a bit fuzzy atm.

the one thing i'd really like is be able to inject Fortune Street to a Wii VC title so that i don't have to have the disc inserted all the time.
do these injects use their original respective Wii saves or do they need a new save? if the inject uses my existing save, i'd do it.

also, the boosted clock speeds thing is interesting. how does it work?

Yeah, the same save.

I see I can use this to have my Dual Shock 4 emulate the Wii U game pad and work on Wii U games. Is there any way to get it working as a classic Wii pad though? I'd love to be able to play games like DKC Returns and The Last Story with a simple USB controller and not have to get out the Wiimote.

the button mappings.

how do they work?

Do you patched it so gamepad recognize the wiimote as held horizontal? I don't remember what script version introduced that feature, you should download the latest one.

i had tried with vertical first but everything was reversed.

i tried with horizontal and the buttons match now. it's weird but they match when Fortune Street's options are set to vertical (the game lets you hold the remote horizontal or vertical normally).

Can someone point me to the right direction. I've searched youtube but I feel the videos aren't that clear. Any really good how-tos from the absolute bone stock Wii U 5.0.2? I have hombrew channel in an SD card but when I launch it through the website it's just blue with bubbles floating everywhere.

http://wiiu.guide/get-started

This guide is probably your best bet! I'm not sure if it'll work for 5.0.2, but you've already been able to get the homebrew channel launched so that should be good; if it's just blue you might not have any homebrew apps on your SD card, so you could try downloading one and putting it on it to see if that shows up!

Nope, no audio, seems the console just locks up; gamepad is still responsive butt he only way to get the console to shut off is by pulling the plug entirely. I think I've tried that already; deleted my previous nincfg and recreated it with mostly stock settings, and still got the same result. I'll give it another bash though, thanks!

Haha, glad to know I'm not alone! I'll play around with the config a bit more and update if I get it to work reliably :)

I just thought you wanted to back up the games. Backing up your NAND would probably be best.

If you want to take it a step further and have your ROMs in a playable state on the PC then you can use this:

https://github.com/Plombo/vcromclaim

My WiiWare games are on my UK Wii U and my Virtual Console games are on my American Wii. Ideally I want all my purchases on both systems and have them available for Dolphin usage and as functional backups in the event of hardware failure. Seems like I can copy across all my channels to the SD card then use YABDM to make WADs with a valid ticket so I will give that a go over the weekend.

Hey guys n gals

Just got a Wii U which is on 5.5.2E the main thing I wanna do is play some GameCube games! Need to play some Sunshine, Double Dash and Melee!

What’s the best guide out there to do this??

Thank you!

so, what do i need to do to enable the higher clock speed for a Wii U VC inject? does the script to do the injects do that or not?

I'm excited to see the Gamepad developments for Nintendont, but I've been looking around for a guide for a while now to find out a couple of pretty simple (or so I thought) questions:

Is it only possible to inject a single Nintendont emulated game at a time?

Or can you set it up to open the Nintendont application from the pad and select games via that?

I think you can create a channel to boot Nintendont without launching a game.
https://github.com/FIX94/nintendont-autoboot-forwarder/releases

The first one:
nintendont_forwarder - Just a forwarder to sd:/apps/nintendont/boot.dol, no autoboot

Use that DOL file to create a channel.
Install that channel and make sure you have the latest nintendont on that folder

Last time I checked, that was how it actually had to work, and you had to put the GC disc images on the SD card.

I don't think Nintendont developers are working right now on WFS HDD support. They didn't even want to support FAT32 HDD connected at once with a WFS one for some reason (I imagine a good one, actually).

No, the script doesn't work for it yet.
Grab these forwarders instead:
NOT64
WiiSXR

Install with wup installer to internal memory NOT hdd.

You need sign_c2w_patcher 0.3 to unlock 1.2ghz mode in vWii, just run it through HBL before start the forwarders.

And you also need the boot.dol for WiiSXR with gamepad support (sd:/apps/wiisxr/boot.dol) and the boot.dol for NOT64 (sd:/apps/not64/boot.dol)

Yes, it works :)

You just need disable gamepad mode before starting the game, gamepad will be always asigned to p1, you can use gcn controllers with the adapter while in gamepad mode, but you need connect them in p2, p3, p4.

I'm trying to figure this out as well. In order to off gamepad controls, I need to use a Wii Remote to select that option... right?

If that's so, this is really not for me. I want to play Super Mario Sunshine with my GC controller, but it seems that the only way to do that is to boot Nintendont in the regular way, not via an injected game or forwarder :/

Also, what's the difference between "Force widescreen" and "Use Wii U widescreen"?

If im not mistaken, it could corrupt the WFS HDD.

Installing the channels for each game, you can use either NAND or WFS memory which is great.

Yes, when it ask if you want to use Gamepad select no, then it will ask if want to display the game on the TV only, or TV and Gamepad, select whatever you like. Gamepad controls will be disabled from now, and GCN controller will be your P1.

Then it's for you xD, via inject you can play:
  • Gamepad in P1, GCN controller as P2, etc...
    OR
  • GCN (or other supported controllers) as P1, P2, P3, P4
Also, what's the difference between "Force widescreen" and "Use Wii U widescreen"?
Wii U widescreen is the Wii U system widescreen mode applied to the game, "force widescreen" is a hack patch that comes from the original Wii, but it would break things in the end, it's not really needed on Wii U.

No, I'm afraid it isn't for me. What I would like to do is to click on a GameCube game's icon (Super Mario Sunshine) and boot it directly, without having to go through menus or having to use the Wiimote, and use the GameCube controller to play it.

So far, none of the options available fully address my need:

  • Going to the vanilla vWii to load Nintendont forces me to use a Wiimote.
  • If I use a Wii U forwarder icon for USB Loader GX, I need to use a Wiimote or a Pro Controller to select the game. It's not compatible, nor will it ever be, with the GameCube controller (or any HID controller, it seems).
  • If I use a Wii VC channel to boot Nintendont, it forces the Gamepad to be Player 1. If I want to have my GameCube controller be Player 1, I need to disable that gamepad, but that means I have to use a Wiimote to proceed when the Wii U tells me to point it at the screen.

This method is awesome for people who want to play GC games on the Gamepad... but it unfortunately it doesn't do what I want it to do :( Unless there's a way to disable Gamepad input and make the game boot without the console asking for a Wiimote that I don't know of :/

Fair enough point :p, and if you don't use CBHC you need to boot sigpatches before launching a Wii VC inject so it adds the gamepad controller to the whole process (at least you set Haxchi CFW as default).

I prefer injection because it freed up space from my SD card, my GCN collection fits in a 64gb SD but it take me away the half of it, also have my Wii U hdd with 200gb free heh.

Oh, sure. Injection is great for Wii games! I'm going to convert my games into Wii U installables once I'm done re-setting up my GCN solution. I think I'll just set up a Haxchi shortcut to HBL2HBC that autoboots into Nintendont and be done with it. I don't know how the shutting down process will be with that, but at least I can boot directly into Nintendont (or a game, if I use autoboot inside Nintendont).

It's a damn pity that USB Loader GX never incorporated GameCube controller support. In the end you always need a secondary input method to do some part of the process...

Edit: This setup works OK. But I still need to use the Wiimote once I quit Nintedont. I was never bothered by it or its utility as an input method back in the Wii days... but nowadays I fucking loathe that stupid thing. What a cumbersome, bothersome Nintendon-like approach to gaming controllers.
