Man this game looks REAL good in HD. If you guys can dump your rom, I 100% recommend trying a run in Citra

So ready to double dip if ends up on switch someday, looks amazing in HD. Still looked great in 3d in spite of the 3ds low resolution even.

Yeah, I was kind of down on how the game looked at it's reveal, but that was solely due to all 3DS games looking terrible when they're shown on a large screen. When I started playing I was surprised at how good it looks and seriously, it has to be one of the prettiest games when played in 3D mode - it looks amazing. I seriously envy those who have no problem with longer sessions with 3D mode on.

The backgrounds in motion look much better than I expected and yeah, those screens in Citra are gorgeous. Art direction is great and gravity suit looks amazing.

God I just want to see this game with uncompressed textures...it looks soooooo good.

Here is the Citra version I am using if anyone else want's to play this way.

This looks great and the fact I find the 3ds incredibly uncomfortable to use for long sessions, I have been looking into Citra just a bit.

Is there an easy way to dump your carts to your pc or does the 3ds need some sort of homebrew installed to make it possible?

You will need homebrew to dump the roms

There are A LOT of background elements that I legit could not notice on my 3DS screen. A lot of work really went into these backgrounds.

Check out this lovely Samus art:

Wow looks amazing!

I started playing over the weekend. Just got the varia suit after having a little bit of trouble getting to it.

Entered the lava room not long after and being greeted by a familiar metroid theme, Nice!
Though those seem rare, going by impressions of the soundtrack being mediocre.

I really like the counter move and after a little bit of practice it comes of naturally.
Really liking it.

Has anyone else encountered a... glitch? where you can shoot into the 3D plane? For a second I was firing at my face and I only noticed because it was actually rendered in 3D.

Been enjoying this the past week after finishing Mario & Rabbids. About 5 hours in so far and haven't finished Area 3; sounds like I'm moving pretty slow, lol. I read there are
8
areas. Is that correct?

Just finished it. Fantastic game, kudos to Mercury Steam for a job well done.

Would love to see them work on a brand new 2D Metroid game on Switch now that they cut their teeth on the Metroid series.

Pros:

Combat is pretty fun, though the melee counter seems pretty useless halfway through the game.
Puzzles were good.
New suit abilities were fun and interesting.
New bosses were challenging.

Cons:

Music seemed a little underwhelming overall.
Controls once you had all the abilities was a bit hectic, I blame the 3DS layout though.

Finished this earlier, loved it. I refuse to buy any of the Amiibo DLC and the game would be better if it just unlocked all of those features without them but whatever.

I was pretty blown away by the additions, especially at the end. This is the definitive edition of Metroid 2 for sure.

The biggest shock for me was that Mercury Steam went from the utter dogshit Mirror of Fate to this, while still implementing parts of that game into this. They seem to have learned their lesson and it seems Alvarez's team (teams?) work best when collaborating with Nintendo staff.

Haven't beaten it yet, but totally agree. I was very on the fence once I heard they were behind the game due to Mirror of Fate, but colour me surprised. A good example in not writing someone/a team off due to a past project. I do agree that some of the controls are a bit awkward on the 3DS; perhaps button remapping would at least alleviate that slightly for some. Still, great game! Can't wait for Prime 4, whatever that may turn out to be.

First game I've dumped since installing cfw on my 3DS and forget the graphics, it plays so much damn better with a proper gamepad. I was using a 360 pad and the difference is amazing. Sadly I can't run Citra at full speed on my laptop so I guess I'll keep playing it on my 3DS.

Wow, looks awesome! If Nintendo do decide to eventually port it, they won't have any problems getting it to look great at a much higher rez.

Have there been any notable speedrunning attempts yet? Really curious what the biggest sequence breaks will be. Game seems a lot more sequential and harder to break wide open than Super Metroid.

That would have been nice - or even just a couple of alternate control schemes. Although the touchscreen morph ball activation and Aeion setup weren't too obstructive, it took a little while to get used to not being able to use X to fire and A to jump...

Alright, beat the game again. It better not crash lol

Edit: Phew. It didn't crash!!

was that
an x parasite in the post credits scene? Or a new parasite?

Overall, the game was simply fantastic. Mercury Steam did a phenomenal job with the gameplay and visuals. The music was great, but some of the sound mixing was off (some sounds didn't register when I hit some enemies).

This is only my second Metroid game. My first one was Metroid Fusion. I can't wait to play Super Metroid when I get my mini SNES

How do you get this to work with an Xbox controller? I tried following a guide where you post this info:

https://community.citra-emu.org/t/temporary-controller-configurations-for-citra/1061

into a config file but it didnt work, also what is the difference between citra-qt, citra-qt-AVX and citra-qt-AVX2?

X parasite. With the elimination of all metroids, they can roam free.

It kicked my ass for a solid 30 minutes while I waited inline at wal mart for my snes. I finally figured out his pattern and it was extremely satisfying to destroy him while he did little damage. The amount of satisfaction was dark souls esque.

I think we will probably get another 2D metroid soon. It wouldn't bother me that much if it was on 3DS but I'd like to play it with a more comfortable controller.

Not only was it an X parasite,
but
in Metroid Fusion
I believe that's the same enemy type that infects Samus at the beginning.

Yup, this one took me by surprise with how good it was, it's probably my favorite boss in the series. The build-up to it is also tremendous.

Really? I felt like it was way too scripted to be considered good, usually Metroid bosses let you brute force them if you can't figure out the "trick" or specific counters, but this one had very rigid phases, which means the player is forced to do exactly the same thing every time.

It's basically Mercury Steam injecting one of the shittier aspects of Mirror of Fate into Metroid and as expected it was spectacle over design.
