Jimmy Kimmel on Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

It's even more sad when it's in a place you know and grow up in.

Kimmel has cried twice this year for his monologue, this year man.

Nothing will ever change until Fox News changes.

They have a stranglehold on the nation.

The bodies will pile up and it doesn't matter.

It never will.

It's not Fox News. You can see how people take up, spread, and believe false news on Facebook. The problem is that a large part of the nation wants to be lied to.

Jesus... the frustration in his voice, I feel just like him... nothing is going to happen until enough people want this change to happen.

When was the other time?

People are locked into a culture of anger.

Its why I've heard more talk about the CBS person getting fired than bodies of all of the victims.

It will never ever change. Go into a small rural town and you will see gun worship and the worship of conservative media. That's why the Flag shit with the NFL gets them riled up.

Entire towns could vanish from a mass murderer but if he was using a gun everyone looks the other way. You hear silence.

When was the other time?
The monologue about his son having open heart surgery/healthcare bill.

I share his frustration, yet also feel hopeless. The vile decisions by lawmakers will continue, no matter how much we try to stop them.

That silencer bill is fucking insanity.

You vastly overestimate how many people watch fox news.

Don't completely dismiss low youth turnout at elections. The young of America are tremendously stupid, and constantly spew garbage about "both" sides to the point where it is cool and trendy to sit out or throw away votes to third parties.

Don't blame the few million people that watch Fox News. Blame the 10s of millions of young folk that don't vote.

After his child was born.

It makes me feel guilty that I can't muster very much emotion over it; I'm completely numb to these incidents.

Of all the things I could have predicted about the late-night TV wars over the past couple years, Kimmel becoming possibly my favorite is the one I didn't see coming.

This is so hard for me to deal with. I spent my entire childhood, kindergarten to 6th grade, in Las Vegas, so this feels incredibly personal to me. I feel that same sadness and frustration I hear in his voice.

I've been in houses with senior citizens that have Fox News on 5 tvs and they vote every election and contribute. Have Limbaugh on the radio at the same time. Those are the people who claim that everyone needs to have a gun and they need to have one because of the people who are always ready to invade their house.

Its a culture issue. The people who vote on these issues think you are taking away their god given right to hunt or this would lead to a slippery slope t, or they would be punished with the paper work and hassle.

And it will happen again and again and again. I've seen the cycle and the talking points so many times already.

It will never change.

The NRA will always win. Their people vote and they always show up and they are constantly fed news that the world is after them. Any slowdown to somebody getting weapons that would mow down people in an instant would hinder their culture.

13th amendment would not have been written in today's world.

That's because its the narrative that TD and 4chan are pushing, and its getting further through bots. It's bullshit

That attitude needs to change. People have been doing the impossible for centuries.

I love the fact that Kimmel's continuing to use his platform to push for positive change. Hope he keeps it up.

Yup small town colorado here and man the NRA stickers and "Molon labe" stickers are fuckin all over. Drives me nuts because this is a fox news haven around here. Dude told me a few months ago that he was "waiting for the monkey to come on" and I thought he was talking about trump, I kinda laughed. Then I see the crawler was talking about Obama. Racism is just all over like it's no big deal.

Tons of hunters and straight up redneck assholes. I was lucky because my dad is union and thus democrat by nature. We ate at a small bar/grill shithole yesterday and my in laws asked if we could watch the broncos play. They said they are boycotting the NFL. The place was empty but they stuck by the boycott even though it lost them a ton of business. The ignorance runs so goddamn deep even talking about gun control has got me kicked out of peoples homes who I am working in. Even mentioning I was a middle of the road liberal democrat people acted like I said I was gay in 1950.

Rogan put it well on one of his last podcasts though. There is too much shit happening. I read about all this and that going on and get fuckin outraged but then I spin around in my chair or turn off my phone and I have a kid, a wife, a family and job. I don't have time to dedicate to being effective in a fight against these people or a good fight for the future of things from my position. Especially in a small town there is nothing going on to even join up with. No marches, no fundraisers, nothing but jackoffs that support the orange dipshit no matter what he does. Sometimes I find a cause I could maybe throw a dollar at and then research shows it is a bad place or a waste of money.

So at the end of the day I repost some twitter things or youtube clips shitting on the news I disagree with and my amazon smile donation goes to child's play because I like sick kids having a gaming experience to keep their mind off of the shit going on with them. After 10 years of amazon use I have donated $12 through amazon but it's better than nothing.

10 years ago, he was talking about fucking Matt Damon.

The last 5 years man...

Mass shooting bi monthly and it's fucking insane.

I don't think we need to outright ban "assault weapons". AR's have always been legal in Canada. But they have a vetting process to be able to purchase them. That sounds reasonable. As long as Republicans have control, I don't see that happening though.

We live in a world where we have to regularly say "I wish the President of the United States was as intelligent, thoughtful, and considerate as Jimmy Kimmel."

Things aren't going well.

I get where you're coming from, but the NRA's grip on America is relatively new. They shifted the discourse gradually over the last three decades, and the discourse can be shifted back. The tobacco industry used to be in their position, but years of activism have beaten them back.

It's not a given that things will get better. That requires work from well-meaning people. But the idea that we're locked into this fate is historically short-sighted - and honestly underselling the mutability of human life.

I just don't get the mindset, even if you walk around everywhere with a gun on your hip you still stand a chance(and not even that remote of a chance) of being shot dead by some nutcase before you even touch your gun. And people think this is an acceptable society to live in?

If a score of children killed at Sandy Hook couldn't get people to budge on gun control, then this won't either.

People like those of the NRA are just willing to accept a certain number of dead children and adults for the sake of their hobby.

The nation will never move on guns. Fires happen? We change the laws. Aircraft hijacked? We change the laws? Terrorists crash cars into pedestrians? We add barriers. Fucks shoot people with weapons designed for combat? Silence, prayers, talking points.

My great great grandkids will be dealing with mass shootings.

That is a genuinely terrifying photograph.

Jimmy really went out of his way and delivered all the info we need to know, who to not forget and what issues that we need to address, and most importantly did not forget about PR.
Great job man.

They.

Vote.

It isn't Fox News. It is the fact that they fucking vote, unlike the young dipshits of America.

Absolutely brilliant monologue. And he hits the nail on the head until the American people get angry and force change this will keep happening. The lawmakers will take their blood money from the NRA and nothing will change. Conservative propaganda will continue warp the minds of tens of millions and all of us will just go day to day numb to mass shooting after mass shooting.

They.

Vote.

It's not that simple. Winner takes all elections and gerrymandering make sane votes in red states completely meaningless. Without a complete overhaul of how democracy actual functions in the USA voting will never solve the failing government in this country.

And votes do nothing to stop the flow of lobbyist money. The GOP is corrupt and evil to it's core, but you don't get 56 senate votes to kill the bill Kimmel mentioned without Dems voting for it too. Lobbyist money changes votes on both sides of the aisle when it comes to guns.
