During photo with military leaders and spouses, Trump says this may be the "calm before the storm."

"You know what this represents?" Trump said. "Maybe it's the calm before the storm." Pressed on what "storm," Trump says, "You'll find out"

Just casually throwing war out there...

Yeah. Trump's approval is going to go down the drains if he starts a war. It's mostly stable due to the fact that we're at relative peace.

Yep--if it's non-provoked, we will see approval in the 20s.

I mean, expect a lot of the people currently supporting him to twist themselves into pretzel knots to justify a war, but the opposition would harden fast. To the point where there would basically be no difference between “disapprove” and “strongly disapprove” for polls that track those both.

Also all the alt right edgelords screaming that Hillary was a war hawk would probably flip over that.

The alt right wants wars against the right people.

As ACA enrollment nears, administration keeps cutting federal support of the law

Another story about Trump sabotaging the ACA. Let all blame fall on his head, and the heads of the entire Republican Party, for this.

Trump told HHS to deny request to fix Iowa ObamaCare market: report

Same story from The Hill. They are calling Trump out directly for this sabotage.

Trump's worship of the military has made it pretty clear he wants to start some sort of war. He's probably just been trying to get the proper reaction, so he can say he didn't start it.

Holy shit the video where he talks about "the calm before the storm" like he's getting fucking hard. Then that shit eating grin...how is this happening?

Because we had to choose between a bloodthirsty lying hawk and a savvy businessman. So many "ugh why do we have to choose?!" cartoons made during the debates last year.

GAF, I need help.

My mom is not a Trumpster at all, and yet she still buys into the Fake News phenomenon. I just had a decently-sized fight with her about this where such classic gems as "not everyone agrees with you on what is a fact" and "but Trump calls CNN Fake News, so who decides what is real news?" were thrown out.

Let me give a bit of context: my mom is one of those people that thinks, if you have an opinion, that's the end of the discussion.

How do I deal with this?

Ghost her.

Seriously tho, don’t talk politics with her. It’s the only way I get along with my parents. Some people simply will not listen to reason and they need to come around on this on their own. It’s not worth your energy and stress.

My mother had a similar "well it's his opinion" and "some people's role is to have views that are one day widely accepted" about my brother's rampant 9/11 trutherism. We're on the same page on most matters, but that's a position of willful overlooking that's hard to back down from.

That assumes people will come around on their own, is the thing. It's a fact of life (see what I did there? :p )... Sorry. It's a fact of life that critical thinking skills aren't what they used to be, which isn't necessarily the person involved's fault, but is a serious problem that affects everyone.

Assuming she's open to a discussion, try leading her on a bunch of logical assumptions/proofs, maybe? Like, "Not everyone agrees with you on what is a fact" = facts are objective pieces of information. Whilst facts can change (number of dead in the Vegas shooting, for example), they are always based on evidence at hand that is commonly held and rigourously analysed. In the context of fake news, CNN is a long-standing journalistic body that has a deep roster of intelligent people, and multiple layers of checking/substantiating stories. Whilst this may fail occassionally, they will always try and provide the truth as it is known.

Also, try making sure that she is aware of "correlation does not imply causation", which is a stumbling block in something like vaccinations. It's a little counter-intuitive to a lot of people, and laymen tend to just go for the simplest concept, even when it's incredibly wrong.

One thing that occurs to me is to question the veracity of a single source. Like, maybe say to her "When I was a kid and I kept on saying I didn't do [bad thing], yet multiple adults said I did, what made you believe them over me?". Then use that as an analogy for Trump vs Fake News.

She's not, she just has some serious issues with giving a shit about anything. She's expressed this to me many times.

My dad was, but now he's doing everything in his power to retcon history.

Take your mom's car, tell her it's your car.

When she says it's her car, tell her that not everyone agrees with her on what is her car.
