OP I'm not buying your so called "experiment". If you really trying to do that you wouldn't choose HZD outside it's superficial similiarity.

I'm guessing this is a reactionary thread that backfired splendidly. You got inspiration to backtrack yourself from few earlier poster comnent...

As i sad it uses almost exactly the same in game mechanic. Except in AC Origins case people are already presuming that you will be able to buy it with real money.

All I'm getting out of this is that yet again Horizon Zero Dawn is way too good for us and I'm beyond happy their "loot boxes" are the OPPOSITE of the kind meant to exploit your wallet and screw you over on RNG.

I'm still shocked and elated the game is as good as it is and isn't saddled with all the exploitative "games as a service" crap most publishers force into their games.

By that metric old PC expansions were also games as a service.


They weren't, and that is a bastardization of the term to sully the fact that meaty DLC isn't part of the negative paradigm when people think of GaaS.

...so any game with an expansion pack is now a GaaS game? The Witcher 3, Morrowind, hell... All of the 3D Elder Scrolls games, Fallout: NV, Arkham Asylum... All of those would be considered to be GaaS, which is generally reserved for games that have microtransactions and a stream of content that lasts for longer than a normal title lifespan?

So most games ever are a GaaS in your opinion?

For me It's constant in-game events paid for mostly through MT. Usually for multiple years (though sports games kinda brake that mold). That makes something a GaaS. Not 1 or 2 expansions/DLCs.
GG are probably done with Horizon ZD after the first major additional content.

Regarding Deus Ex: MD, I think the game definitely had a big backlash regarding MT, funny thing is, I'm playing through the entire game and if it wasn't for the news at launch time I wouldn't even know it had MT.

A 1-off paid expansion isn't GAAS... Jesus, and vendors with randomised stock that you buy entirely with in-game currency and zero microtransactions isn't Lootboxes.

This whole thread is so bone-headed I feel I'm getting dumber by reading it.
