arvey Weinstein has been forced out of the independent film company he co-founded and catapulted to Oscar glory, felled by a mushrooming sexual harassment scandal that has hobbled his status as a media mogul and left his future in Hollywood in jeopardy. The Weinstein Company’s board of directors has voted to remove Weinstein from the studio, leaving control of the company in the hands of Weinstein’s brother, Bob Weinstein, and chief operating officer David Glasser, it was announced in a statement from the company Sunday.

“In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company – Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar – have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately.”

Weinstein has been rocked by a devastating New York Times report documenting decades of legal settlements stemming from sexual harassment allegations leveled by former employees and associates, as well as accusations of improper sexual advances from actress Ashley Judd. The allegations extend back to Weinstein’s days running Miramax, an independent film studio that was then owned by the Walt Disney Co.

As the crisis worsened, Weinstein has lost key allies. His attorney Lisa Bloom resigned on Saturday, as did his advisor Lanny Davis, a former White House hand to Bill Clinton. One third of the all-male board quit on Friday, including billionaire investors Marc Lasry and Dirk Ziff, and Technicolor executive Tim Sarnoff. Weinstein was said to be furiously resisting efforts to force him out permanently.

Honestly, this is a surprise; I wonder if he was doing well financially if they would have forced him out. So much horrible behavior in Hollywood goes unpunished.

Karma's a real bastard. Good riddance, I say. Hopefully the Weinstein Company shakes this off and stops manhandling its projects the way Harvey did.

And yeah, I didn't expect a response this acute either. He's a snake in that business, so he should know how to dodge this kind of damage.

Wasn’t there rumours his brother leaked all this stuff?

Not sure if his bro is squeaky clean himself.

But good riddance.

Rumor has it that Bob has been trying to get rid of Harvey for years.

Good question.

He will probably end up going to France and be a truly beloved producer. Team up with Polanski.

This isn't karma, it's just people in 2017 realizing what they should have in 1980 because we're slow as fuck to progress.

Less a rumor and more conspiracy theory. This stuff has been floating around for years. More than likely there's finally enough people willing to collaborate it

Yeah, I remember reading all sorts of stuff about how Harvey was using the casting couch method for hiring young actresses.

Well, yeah. I'm not trying to downplay the decision the board of directors made to get rid of their co-founder. Right now I'm glad this seems to be happening.

It's been a longstanding rumour that he would basically prey on young actresses begging for a chance. The sex stuff on his plane is apparently a Hollywood legend.

Is he not an owner of the company?

A board of directors is basically a safeguard against an owner/CEO having absolute power over a company because sometimes, such as in situations like this, company heads need to be held responsible for their actions and not be allowed to tank the company in their efforts to save their own ass.

Ugh, Im glad hes out but this sounds very much like a “were kicking you out because its public knowledge now”. People knew about this shit since the Miramax days and they enabled this behavior

"He's out" is a fucking PR move meant to save The Weinstein Company from complete disaster. He's not going to jail, he's wealthy, he's powerful.

The sentiment is nice, but Weinstein was still able to amass wealth and power for a long time that this seems like a move done for the sake of posterity rather than actually caring about the abuses of power Weinstein has committed.

Yeah, it really feels like this is his brother's opportunity to kick him out and take over the company, as well as saving the company from complete failure. Not some moral action against his behavior.

I'm wondering how Quentin Tarantino feels about all of this. He seems close to Harvey. Has he said anything publicly?

No one said anything publicly.... No jimmy Kimmel, no SNL sketch, no celebrity outrage, no nothing!!

Hollywood protect their own!

In a world where another asshole became US-President, its atleast something.

He'll make a comeback in 5-10 years after he produces Passion of Muhammad, a gritty telling of the tale of the prophet Muhammad that wins all the Oscars and gets everyone in Hollywood (at the Oscars) to give a standing ovation.

Now if only we can do this with Trump and have him impeached from office. We elected basically the same guy. Plus he admitted doing it.

Ok, so he still profits from the company, just isn't part of running it anymore?

Sounds like he finally just ran out of political capital in his own company and his rivals finally took action. There's no way it would get this far otherwise.

Yes. He owns part of the company, but less than a majority. So, he doesn’t have control and there is a Board that can fire him. The Board can’t take away his equity ownership, though.
