What's the "one new thing" Nintendo could add to the N64 Mini (like Star Fox 2) ?

I control+F "Robotech" as soon as I opened this topic, thank you for bringing this up. This game was promising to be the No Man's Sky of the N64 generation, it's a wonder it never came out. The bullshots were mindblowing at the time.

Dinosaur Planet

Dinosaur Planet and Earthbound 64

I'd love to see Dinosaur Planet. I thought that game looked stunning when I saw it in magazines way back when.

Is there any official word on how close to completion the N64 version was?

Dinosaur planet before it was degraded to starfox adventures.

In conclusion: Dinosaur Planet.

Pretty sure that Dinosaur Planet would be owned by Microsoft anyway.
Oh yeah. :(

I guess Playtonic could give us 'Ancient Reptile World' someday, but still.

Everything has to be reworked to run at a minimum 30fps. Zelda and Goldeneye running at 20fps is like getting stabbed in the eyes nowadays.

Zelda OoT master quest

64DD staff like F-zero exclusive courses, mario artist or simcity

western unrelease games like animal crossing 64

and very unlikely, unreleased/canceled games like Resident evil 0, mother 64 and dinasaur planet

and add mario 64DS extra content to original mario 64 would be awesome too

Mother 64 is the only thing that comes to mind. But this has never been finished.
Eternal Darkness would be interesting, but that has been released on GameCube.
Resident Evil 0 as well.

I'm drawing a blank.
Was there ever any game announced for the N64 that has basically been completed but was never released worldwide?

If it just had Banjo Kazooie and Tooie then I'd freak out.

But definitely one of the unreleased 64 games or (very small chance of this) online capabilities for a couple games.

Maybe you could play pokemon red/blue/yellow or gold/silver/Crystal from within Pokemon Stadium 1 or 2.

A mini 64DD packed in that contains english versions of F-Zero X Expansion Kit and Mario Artist.

If Nintendo has completed versions of Super Mario 64 2 and Ura Zelda lying around, I'll gladly take those instead.

Was Ura Zelda not just Master Quest?

I don't think Nintendo can put out a new improved version of PD without licensing it from MS. It was the same issue MS had trying to put out an HD version of Goldeneye. A port of the XBLA version would be amazing value though.

I meant improved performance due to better hardware, played via emulation. The OG 64 hardware struggled with framerate on such games, especially when you throw in split-screen multiplayer.

I think the Classic line is more concerned with hardware accuracy rather than improved gameplay. So, I would imagine they would want the clunky framerates intact for memories sake. Like the slowdown kept in SNES and NES games.

64DD F-Zero is the obvious choice.

First post nails it.

Personally, I don't think an N64 Mini is going to happen at all, but if it does, and if 64DD F-Zero was included, I would want one.

Online multiplayer would be awesome but let's face it, it's not going to happen. On top of having to modify the hardware, each game's ROM would also need to be modified to support the new feature. These games are 20 years old now and they're not going to be touched.

I can't think of any as significant as Star Fox 2 that were complete. Closets might be the 64DD version of F-Zero X that others have mentioned?

I think the biggest thing they could get for this would be Golden Eye. It's never seen a re-release and it is such an important, iconic game. Given all the licensing issues associated with that game, getting it would be as surprising as getting Star Fox 2 for the SNES Mini was for me.

If this even happens (Rare games on a hypothetical N64 Classic that is)—which would be a feat—and they kept the low framerates... whew boy... I mean, it's a tad different experiencing 2D slowdown vs 3D, especially with a console notorious for low fps, dropping to single digits at times. It's pretty much the main reason I often felt nauseated playing certain games on the system and where emulation helped greatly. Not sure I could go back to that performance for a new hardware purchase.

I guess the closest thing to Star Fox 2 would be Sin & Punishment, but that existed in Japan at least.

Better framerates.

Revise the emulation to boost internal resolution, texture quality and frame rate.

These really defeat the purpose of these classic mini things, like asking for a different controller.

Support all the good 64DD stuff. Otherwise I don’t care to return to most of those games and I’m not that interested in these mini consoles anyway. But I’d love to try that stuff in an official translation

In conclusion: Dinosaur Planet.

Addendum: Dinosaur Planet.

Last reports were that it was around 80% done, the plot was significantly different with split gameplay, and this time they wouldn't need to worry about the big expensive cart it would require.

They might need to work with Rare to actually get it finished, but this wouldn't be the first time Nintendo did that post-MS buyout, and Rare just recently dug into their archives to release a host of retro games, even porting some natively.

Regulus Tera

Romanes Eunt Domus
Sin and Punishment maybe but that got a VC release

Only other thing I can think of the Disk Drive add-ons for some of the games. Master Quest, too.

Thornado by Factor5, obviously.

I know I know :(

On a more serious note, I'd like a more consistent frame rate or at least improved resolution (720p minimum), but no changes to textures, no added AA, etc. - see poster above - because I think *that* would more significantly affect the point of "Classic" hardware.

The one thing that's kind of a cop out but I could realistically see happening since it would be easy is the version of Sin and Punishment with English menus that they released on the Wii VC.

Fzero X track editor would be cool. The only n64 game I can think of that fits the same as SF2 (in that it was basically done when canned) was Mini Racers, which looked kind of cool for the time, but I don't know that Nintendo had any kind of affiliation with it.

How would Rare/MS own anything of Dinosaur Planet? We know Nintendo owns all of Star Fox Adventures since they featured "Sauria" in Star Fox Assault after the buyout, and Krystal became a member of the Star Fox team, and they still have trophies of Krystal and Tricky in Smash to date.

Literally it'd be impossible for Rare or MS to have any rights, not even the name since SFA constantly used the name Dinosaur Planet as the name of the actual planet.

Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo owns the cut characters like Sabre.

Resident Evil 2 with DC quality assets (video and textures) but still have the N64 files and options to finally have an ultimate version.

Make an alternate reality Final Fantasy VII with actual 3D settings like Ocarina, and a single consistent 3D character model throughout, instead of pre-rendered and three separate art styles per character.

Finish the Earthbound 64 prototypes.

The Harry Potter prototype the made to try to convince J.K. Rowling to give them the license.

Or was that Gamecube?
