Goldeneye. The Dam >>> rest of the game combined.
Prey 2017
Dark Corners of the Earth
Bloodborne. If the other areas were as good, the game would easily be the GOAT.
Bloodborne
Demon's Souls 1-1. Not sure if it counts since it's after the tutorial level, but I consider it the "first level".
Every God of War game tbqh.
The hydra, the colossus, and Poseidon were the best parts of 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
I said Gow3 .... But looking at your post you might have a point.
-Awesome intro battle.
-Kratos loses his powers.
-Spend whole game getting his powers back and then fight a final boss that's just not as good as the first one.
Been playing the Soulsborne (excluding Demon's) slowly in order over the past three years. Just started Bloodborne and just finished Central Yarnham and wasn't blown away from a level design or gameplay standpoint (art direction is fantastic), and that's not to say it wasn't good either, it was good and I enjoyed it. I'm just surprised to hear many saying this is the best level. I haven't ventured into the next area yet, and I guess I'm curious to see how it might fall off now.
The one in Sonic Lost World, can't remember its name.
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Metal Gear Solid V
Not sure if this is relevant to OP or just stealth D2 shitting.
Metal Gear Solid V
YES !!
Central Yharnam is great because it's extremely open ended in how you can approach it once you go through the hallway with the mobs and the burning werewolf. You can run to Father Gascoigne or the Cleric Beast right away with no bullshit, you can meet Eileen, grab loot in the sewers, etc.Been playing the Soulsborne (excluding Demon's) slowly in order over the past three years. Can't really speak for the 3D titles but I disagree with the original games. For Sonic 2 Chemical Plant Zone is way more loved level than the first stage, same with Stardust Speedway in Sonic CD. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is up for debate but I think most people love the other stages in the game over Angel Island Zone.
Deus Ex: HR's first level is arguably the best one. It has all the multiple routes and goals of any good DX game, but with an additional level of polish and gameplay hooks that the rest of the game either didn't have or didn't implement with as much detail, like:
Getting punished if you screw around for too long before starting the mission.A bomb defusing situation that could be handled multiple ways.Being able to deal with a hostage situation that connects to the bomb situation, with your actions affecting what happens later in the game.
Sure, you have more powers to play with later in the game, but this level had features that the others didn't.

I don't know if I'd call it the best area in the game though, because there are some damn good ones like Cathedral Ward, the Forbidden Woods, Research Hall, and Fishing Hamlet. Hell, even the less liked areas (Yahar'gul) are really intricate and fun to explore.
Dark Corners of the Earth
Huh? Please dont... i dont know anything about D2...
FFS here http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=970133
The first mission doesnt feel at all like it was part of the rest of the game. Someone in that thread mentioned the laser beams you need to dodge... nothing like that again in the game...
Ah yah my wording was bad considering there is a Destiny 2. I was referring to the rest of D1.I...think I misunderstand your comment ? Are you talking purely about opening of D1 compared to the rest of the game? Because I get impression that you are referring to how D1 is better than D2 with the 'better than the game that followed' (which is not what OP is about).
If so, then I agree...just like D2, D1 opening level is the best part of the game.
Shadow of the Empire
Crawling around on a hospital floor is better than some of the best open-world gameplay available? I can't possibly understand.
So good they make you play it twice... It's so bad after the first time. It just feels like it drags forever.Metal Gear Solid V
the first tile set of Diablo 1 is also my favouriteThe first area in Diablo II and Diablo III are my favorite.
Dark Corners of the Earth
This as well
That hotel getaway gets me pumped up no matter how many times I play it.
HAWolfenstein: The New Order
