These would be cool cameo rare blades, along with Elma since she was great from X.

Though I guess TheMoon has a point that it's somewhat unlikely they'll license those two for this despite how great it would be.

Edit:

Ooh yeah 7th would be a nice one as well.

Yes to Elma for sure though

A little bit new things from famitsu, those two Torna guys' name. And type of some announced rare blades(attack/defense/heal).

Nintendo Dream magazine on Oct 21 will also have XB2 information.

I guess the "It looks like a Tales game" is intended to be a slight ("Tales is soooo Anime!"). For me it really isn't since Tales games are quite different from each other (just look at the contrast of the awful Zestiria to the decent Berseria), though recently I was not playing them since Vesperia because of how bad they'd gotten in terms of story.

But the Xeno games have always been "Anime" (whatever that means). I don't know why people keep bringing it up now as if Xeno 2 is doing something totally different.

Anything you can share? What are the Torna names? Are the RARE blades the same ones that have already been announced or new ones?

The simpler nature theme does look cleaner than the elemental one, but the dragon heads added a lot of character to the original design.

In any case, the more typical human face does look less awkward than the semi-furry one.

Tales of Symphonia also had hilarious wanted posters :p

That was mostly what I was getting at.

did Tales threads get a lot of anime hate?

I never really followed the series they did not come out often on platforms I owned at the time

New Famitsu scans are out, showing off artwork for the common Blades. Art for the Torna members we have seen so far can also be seen, along with their names.

The masked Torna member is "Shin" while the black-haired one is "Metsu," with both names potentially having some religious connotations to them.

(And in case anyone is interested, Shin is voiced by Sakurai Takahiro and Metsu is voiced by Nakamura Yuuichi)

Both those names were in a script page from the initial trailer, weren't they?

Based on those script we can expect the early plot is
Rex as a salvager joined Torna's plan to find Pyra under the sea, Nia also joined as a driver. Rex found Pyra and resonanced with her and then escaped(Maybe with Nia?). So they were wanted by Torna.

Super LTTP to this, so forgive my probably super obvious question. I saw the gifs for the Blade characters a page or so back. Are those recruitable side characters like from XBX? I can't remember if they were called Blade in that game.

Digging some of those designs more than the main cast, especially Azami.

This will be my winter game so I'll be following this more closely.

Basically in battle there are a multitude of blades you can use in battle, each with their own elements, attacks etc.

If I recall correctly you can switch them mid battle for more varied attacks.

You get them in a gacha-like form with orbs(?). There are generic blades and rare blades. These are the rare ones.

Pyra is likely this game's Xenoblade

My recollection wouldn't be accurate, but I don't recall the Symphonia/Abyss/Vesperia era Tales games getting a lot of "Anime!" hate. It seemed to be a scarlet letter that got applied to the series more frequently post-Vesperia. To me it just seems like a meaningless insult since what does "Anime" even mean? Practically every piece of animated media and gaming from Japan is Anime or influenced by Anime in some fashion.

Cool, thanks! I found the scans through a google search. I like Nomura's Torna character designs. Very reserved but intimidating. The Rare blades shown are the ones that have already been revealed.

I found non-scan art of Shin. Hopefully they'll release Metsu at some point:

One thing to keep in mind is that Blades are not the weapons themselves in a sense (ie. Pyra doesn't transform into the sword). It is the link between the Driver and the Blade that creates the physical form of the weapon.

In this case, Pyra is the Aegis, which is likely the "Monado" of this game.

I was more referring to the fact that every XB game has it's own "Xenoblade"

First game had
Alvis/Monado
X had
Elma

No, but admittedly I'm someone who thinks whining about others whining is a lot more annoying than the original whining. If people want to voice their opinions on the character designs, I really don't think you're the one to tell them not to, OP or not.

In the worst case, the back and forth bullshit would go on for much longer because of the disclaimer.

But if you want to, I guess you could add a "yes we know you probably dislike xyz, so let's try and focus on other things itt" disclaimer or something.

OT's generally don't have that problem anyway.

Tell 'em we don't need to hear how someone won't buy the game because they don't like one character's cloths for the millionth time. We don't care.

Probably won't be worth it since few read the full OT's and especially those who aren't quite invested in the game. There's no doubt we'll get those kind of comments at the outset when the thread goes up, but they'll die down once the game gets into peoples hands.

I do find it interesting that Takahashi has made a pretty divisive call for the second time in a row for the Xenoblade sequels.

With Xenoblade X the division was primarily centered around the music choice of Sawano as composer. And here Xeno 2, it's the character art choice of Saito as lead artist that has caused it.

And in both cases, I could easily see this occurring because Takahashi saw/heard something he liked in an Anime and was all "gotta get that guy for my next game!"

No doubt he was a big Attack on Titan fan, or more likely Aldonah Zero, and heard the soundtrack and felt that would be great to have Sawano in X .

Then he must have watched Expelled from Paradise and really like the character of Angela Balzac (who looks so eerily identical to the Blade Hikari) and wanted Saito to do the art for 2.

Wonder what will inspire him next time?

I think Takahashi did talk about Rakuen Tsuihou/Expelled from Paradise and how Saito's art worked well with the 3D in that anime and that's why he chose him as the lead artist for Xeno 2 as he was trying to make more appealing 3D models.

Anyway, Sawano was perfect for Xeno X. His mecha stuff is simply top notch and was amazing in X. Nothing beats the feeling of using your overdrive and listening to wir fliegen.

Believe in Takahashi.

People are going to complain about these designs, regardless of what's in the OT, I suspect. I'm surprised so few read OTs though. I always do for games I'm interested in!

I'll try to get it out of my system now. Personally, the only design I like so far is the big white tiger character. But then I always want more animal characters in games....

And weird as double dragon furry girl is, I'll happily take her over MC. His giant pants/weird back pack combo are possibly the most offputting design I've seen in ages. Like, I'm trying to figure out what they're supposed to evoke, but I just don't get their functional or aesthetic provenance. But I'm still totally getting this now that I have my Switch.

He's a deep-sea diver/salvager. his design is supposed to show his trade:

Gonna quote Almond's post from a previous thread (maybe this should go in the OT, lol)
I still remain confused as to what issues people have with Rex's outfit. It's clearly meant to be a fantasy version of a diving suit. Mixed with modern day wetsuits...

New-1-5mm-Men-Women-Watersports-font-b-Scuba-b-font-Snorkeling-font-b-Dive-b.jpg

and old fashioned diving suits...

and maybe throw in some fishing waders....

and BAM.

Ah, the back pack is a helmet. So he's like a big brother from BioShock. And the giant pants are... metal diving chaps? What does the helmet/jacket connect to to make a seal when it's down? Why doesn't the air just come out by his mid-drift? Where is his air tank? Why don't the pants close? Why does he wear his clunky diving apparatus when he's not diving?

Now I think I find his design even more annoying, but at least it doesn't seem totally random I guess.

So these two Nomura characters have the same Japanese voice actor:

And the E3 trailer showed this scene with another one of Nomura's characters:

It was so nice of Takahashi to help Nomura ship Final Fantasy VII Remake this year.
Lol, so the same voice actor for Cloud voices Shin? That's a funny coincidence.

The comparison between Metsu and Sephiroth though is a bit harder for me to connect since the "evil character walks through flames" trope has been used everywhere.

You might be new to this whole Video Game business if you're wondering why characters seem to have limited selection in their wardrobes. But imagine aliens attacked on your way home from work at the local Renaissance Faire and you're still in your Henry VIII get up. First thought might not to be "Oh! I need to change into more appropriate combat attire just in case somebody at home is watching."

As for the rest...

Fall damage seems to be back. Music and environments are really nice too.
The town seems like it's pretty well done.

Seems like the characters might be a bit chatty. They ain't no Ryan time either
