Xenoblade 2 official Japanese twitter account and website thread

I haven't seen the videos (trying to be more or less blackout), but as long as it's closer to Xenoblade 1 (where characters talked TO EACH OTHER) vs X (where they just said random generic shit) I'll be happy.

There is more banter between Driver/Driver and Driver/Blade, yes.

They seem to be shouting pretty generic, random stuff to me, at least in the battle we're talking about.

Can't compare directly to the original, though, don't remember what sort of banter it had.

Damn this game looks amazing! I really need to get a Switch mostly for this game but i will have a shitload of expenses in the next 4-5 months...Hopefully i'll be able to get a Switch+XC2+Pro controller around spring next year.

From Gamescon and Milan games week's footage, Anchor shot is usable when battle started, but not in today's videos. Maybe Nintendo simply took away some equipments or let Rex and Pyra have less affinity from Gamescon's demo build.

The issue is that now there are 5 characters shouting at the same time.

5? That's 7 no?

3 main party members + 3 blades + Rex's cat titan?

I still don't cringe quite the same at XBC1's combat banter, but then again it might just be because I liked the characters and it did eventually blend in. Maybe it'll be the same this time around.

Oh, I forgot about the cat. But does Rex shout too? I didn't catch it.

Well, that was fun lol. But yeah, this definitely sounds much more personal than the banter I've heard in the clips I've seen. Too early to say for sure though, obviously.

Even after checking CGiRanger's links I still feel like XB2 has considerably more chatter, probably mainly because there are more people shouting whatever, like KingSnake pointed out above. But while I do think the chatter has always been somewhat obnoxious in these games and I have a feeling it's going to be at its most obnoxious in XB2, it really does become just background noise for me after the first few fights.

Wouldn't mind a volume slider for combat dialogue, though.

I actually like the combat dialogue. Not that I would use it, but I agree it'd be nice to have a volume slider for that sort of incidental dialogue for the people who dislike it.

Also, I see the VA growing on me. I've been very conservative about criticizing the VO work for unreleased games like this ever since I expected to hate both FFXV's and Persona 5's VA from those games' trailers and ended up loving them both.

Again, the party chatter is exactly how it was in previous games in terms of how much it is:

It sounds fine to me. As someone said, when you're actually playing the game and focusing on the battle, it sort of blends in quite nicely.

Yeah, the battle chatter in this game doesn't sound any different from the past Xenoblade games to me. It's never really bothered me, as my mind tends to get used to the voices & I'm too busy focusing on the combat and chaining things right to really notice it - it essentially becomes background noise along with the regular battle music.

I can see how the voices & the frequency with how much you hear them could be annoying to others though. It would be great if the game allowed you o tweak the volume for Music, Sound Effects & Speech/Voices like a lot of other JRPGs do. I always have a tendency to turn the music down a notch or two lower than the speech in JRPGs so that I can comfortably hear the music in the background & not have it compete with the voice acting.

They show off a couple new blade combos.

It's a bit silly to me that we're most likely gonna get a lot of videos like these that boil down to being the exact same thing which are all already very similar to what we've been seeing since Gamescom.

On one hand I appreciate how much of the game is being kept under wraps, but on the other I can only get so excited about watching the same sort of battle with the same party in the same environment and the same glimpses of the same town for the millionth time :p

I want new stuff!

The game is so close now and I know I am going to love it, so I actually don't want more than the drip feed they are giving us. I want to be amazed and surprised like I was the first time I played Xenoblade.

It looks like they are marking NPCs with stars if they have new dialogue. Berseria did the same thing for indicating new dialogue and it made it much easier to keep track of who to talk to and made me more inclined to make sure I talked with everyone. I hope this becomes a norm as it's a very nice QoL addition in RPGs.

One thing that I've noticed through these videos that I like is the Sound Effects of the weapon strikes against the enemies. They sound very impactful and satisfying to connect an attack, which I'm glad for since this game clearly is going for less quantity of actual strikes of attacks compared to its predecessor XenoX.

The main battle theme is very nice and catchy too. Still a bit bummed about the change of Unique Monster battle theme (unless it's a bug playing the wrong musical entry, I can hope, lol).
The Torna members are up.

Personally I think they are some of Nomura's best work in recent years.\

These look nice, buts it's so hard to capture how beautiful the game really is in a tiny gif.

What I actually like about this game is that the colors are much more "warm" and "saturated" than in XenoX, which had a colder and more desaturated palette. But it looks very pretty in motion that is for sure. Can't wait to make use of the new Video Capture on the Switch for this one (which hopefully Nintendo will add to the game)

Oh I hope that is true. That was another thing that I recall not liking about XenoX was that there was no way IIRC to know which NPC's had new dialogue (especially since dialogue could change after every chapter) and especially if you had to run around trying to talk to a specific character that you didn't know if you'd already talked to before or not.

I'm pretty sure there is a ton of battle themes and depending on the time/location/enemy itself, the encounter music may be different. Takahashi said so post-Nintendo Direct:

By the way, the song playing in the background of the battle explanation was “Fight!!”, by [Kenji] Hiramatsu, and it primarily plays in the early areas of the game. Different locations and situations will have different battle themes, so you can look forward to those too!

That's a good point, though I do find it interesting that they're still changing up which musical tracks play where at this point.

I'm very curious to see just how many tracks this game will have. XenoX had quite a lot, even though many were subtle variations.

At least in previous Xeno titles, there was only one specific "Unique Monster" theme: "You Will Know Our Names" and "Uncontrollable"

This brings up a question I have. I noticed in the Milan gameplay, When Fillipo triggers the side quest in Uraya the dialogue is different than Gamescom. Maybe I’m misremembering, but Nia and Rex spoke in the Gamescom footage and Tara spoke in the Milan footage. Wondering if that’s just an update to the game or what?

It's a bit disappointing that they don't want people poking around the towns since there seems to be a decent amount of stuff going on here.

Shin and Metsu look really good. Probably some of my favorite recent work of Nomura.

Yeah well, not long to go now. Kinda glad they're showing so little cause no way I'd have the self-control to not watch anything.

Ive just been checking this thread for Blade reveals. Thats as far as im going to spoil myself. Been avoiding all the vids and as many screens as i can. Looking forward to being surprised by a lot of stuff.

Nintendo seems very strict about this game and showing anything regarding the story or such, other than what they stitch together in their own videos. Even though we're a little over a month away, they still have been quite strict with their playable demos to show only combat and some exploration of Uriyah. It's also kind of odd that they've not gone back to show off Gormott (which was the E3 demo) playable either, even though that Titan is probably earlier in the actual game than Uriyah.

It is a contrast to XenoX where they were pretty open about showing the initial cutscenes of arriving at Mira in their show demos.

Shin and Metsu are my favorite character designs of the game so far, with M_Hakus' "Persona"-style Blades right behind. It is going to be interesting to see if Shin's mask has a special meaning or is just an affectation.

I think thats just due to the games being very different. In X you had the map from the begining and there was so much to explore and fight that it was the core gameplay loop and knowing/seeing things beforehand wasn't a huge deal.

With XC2 it seems like the game is much more tightly plotted and every new location is likely a minor story spoiler. With the game primarily being about Story, Nintendo want as many people going in blind as possible.

I noticed that as well. It's possible that it's random who responds during that particular quest, as it seems a bit nitpicky of a thing for them to change, but the only way we'll know for sure is when the game comes out.

That's true, and there's no way to compare it to the original Xenoblade since that game was never intended to even be released in the west, aside from that one trailer it got when it was called "Monado". But other than that I don't know how well it was advertised and promoted in Japan.

Gotta say, I'm really, really concerned about the huge HP monsters have. :(
The word is that in the demos the monster HP is artificially inflated and tuned high so the battles would last longer and thus the battle systems could be demonstrated better. That was what was the case for the Gamescom demo at least, and this demo seems to be an offshoot of that one.

Plus this is an area not at the start of the game as well. And with regard to the Cunning Saggie, that's a unique Monster so it of course has high HP to begin with.

In the first Xenoblade game character comments depended on who the party lead was and who else was in the party, this could be similar.

I just realized what "cancelling" is from that footage. Basically, it means that with proper timing any move that's not an Auto Attack can be seamlessly canceled into another non-auto attack move (including Switching Blades), boosting the level of specials, removing the end lag on moves and so on.

In addition, the Break and Topple Statuses augment the Special Art Status effects in addition to time and Party Gauge Bonuses, greatly enhancing them, with Topple, a Volcano's DoT goes up to 700 in total from around 120 per tick incentivizing having it stick around rather than moving on to the next step.

Plus the Cunning Saggie looks like a pretty good boss fight. The aesthetics are pretty strong overall. Really Excited :)

I'm not sure about canceling with blade switching, it looks like Rex use an art right after he switched to Hiden.

Hope there are more male rare Blades in the final product. There are like only 2 so far? 3 including Nia's tiger I guess.

I don't think I've ever seen any footage of any Xenoblade fight where enemies have less-than-ridiculous HP. The fights take way too long.

As has been mentioned, fairly sure the more recent demos have had that tinkered with - if you watch the E3 demo, fights were going much much faster and that was with presumably early game gear and abilities. I'm sure you'll eventually be able to do things like take down lv 100+ superbosses with lv 60 parties in less than a minute like in the first game haha. Don't think the super fast superboss kills from XCX will return though, what with Chain Attacks being in vs Overdrive. That and no super customizable mechs.
