How many options for ISP do you think the average American has. Spoilers, it is like 2, maybe. This dogfight for customers that you imagine in the ISP space does not exist and will never exist.
I believe it would exist if the need was there.

It will almost be worth it to see the MAGA morons cry when Comcast starts charging them out the ass to watch crunchyroll or play overwatch.
Natural monopolies how do they work.
They don't even comprehend the benefits of net neutrality, they would just blame Obama when their anime fix runs out for the week.
Don't you have some kind of rally to attend?

Don't know what you mean, but if you're implying that I'm a nazi/kkk or some other bullshit label, then I'm sorry to disappoint you because I'm black. Black west african to be precise and I fuckin love America. Best place on earth for a black man.
Slower internet for the average American would probably be a good thing anyways.
America online becoming available to the masses pretty much ruined USENET.
Advocating that the internet should be available only to wealthy people is certainly a take!

Hahaha. There it is.
This is the core belief, the main tenet, the idea that fuels a leftist ideology. "I KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU".
This is why socialism/communism will always end in dictatorship. The same mentality all those leftist dictators had, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, Castro, etc. People are stupid, I know what's best for them.
You're a totalitarian and you don't even know it.
We all know businesses always look out for the consumer first. Name one time they haven't.Why does an unelected business know what's best for me instead?

Net neutrality regulation will not end the general problem of corporations bribing elected officials. You are correct.Lol some of you people are stupid as fuck. Comcast and Verizon already line city officials pockets to block other companies from starting their business there. Theyll continue to do that and charge more for services while throttling your internet.
Exact opposite happens.By forcing ISP to provide the exact same service, it will encourage them to merge and form a super corporation and mist importantly, it's eliminating competition. Without net neutrality, a small start up company can enter the business and say "hey, join us because we don't charge you more for connecting to this network, or we don't slow down your Internet speed unlike company X".
Outrage would be so big that Amazon would have to walk it back, or they would lose to a competitor who has fast netflix.
That's hilarious.Absolutely. Amazing how common sense eludes some people. They've been conditioned to believe that they need the government for everything, unaware that government is usually the problem and not the solution.
Deregulated electricity and extra money in the pockets of power company executives was a small price to pay for avoiding the next Pol Pot. You should be thankful.Exact opposite happens.
They deregulated the electricity in my state, CA, and power companies started pretending there were outages and too much demand, so we started having rolling black outs for months. This made them start increasing prices and made everyone think we need more power plants, which the state happily gave them money for.
Turns out that they were cutting down production of electricity across the state to pretend they couldn't manufacture enough electricity and also had out of state companies give us juice at higher rates because they're such buds. I don't think anyone got punished for this trickery.
My own area had way more communication companies in the 80s and 90s, with about 5 local cable companies. Cox slowly bought them up to the point there's only one left and that one has limited coverage in the metro area. Telephone companies did the same.
None of these buy outs decreased prices, and cost have only increased, despite the market being large enough to support 10 other companies.
Internet is pretty limited, so you either get T3 connections for megabucks or get it from the few cable/telephone companies left. None of them offer lower prices.
I don't get why people want to support such enterprises where it's all about taking features away and giving them back at inflated costs. DLC, console online play, etc.
With the internet giving people alternate sources of "TV media" and declining subscribers, the fact that company companies have already talked about giving tiered service for their internet service just shows how the consumer is only getting fucked by deregulation.
Yep, it is unheard of for someone to support groups directly opposed to their interests and well being. Why didn't I think of that.
Why does an unelected business know what's best for me instead?

Oh, so I don't what's good for me? Please tell me what's good for me, what groups do have my best interests?
Lol. You're totalitarian is showing.
No business or government or person knows what's best for you, only you know what's best for you. That's why government regulation is not good because it makes power away from people.
That's the problem.
So you're saying the electric companies who all fucked over the people, costing billions in jobs, loss of business/construction from lack of electricity, overcharging every single person in the state is the fault of the government for giving the electric companies who were LYING to maximize profits for giving what amounts to free money for more power stations? That's the problem.

Nope.
The problem is that these companies basically already have monopolies by taking over the small companies or making licensing fees so high that the smaller companies have no chance of ever setting up shop, thus no need to ever lower prices as long as the next competitor (other pseudo-monopolies) doesn't offer better deals, which none of them do.
The market is larger than when there were multiple companies all trying to compete for our dollar, yet no one has tried in 20 years.
Every year i see fewer and fewer options in everything i see, do, and watch. Fewer restaurants. Fewer websites. Fewer grocery stores. Fewer game shops. Fewer toy stores. Fewer book stores. Fewer everything, because the biggest companies are making sure you have to go through them to get everything. Even fucking existing small stores have set up shops within amazon or ebay.
Everything has to go through them, pay a fee or else, in order to not disappear and that's how it will happen if net neutrality is messed with.
Paying extra fees to get the same exact experience i got last year is shit and you want to pretend the government is somehow behind these problems of us getting fucked over?
Yeah, i guess they are the problem if they're letting these companies fuck us over.
It's bad enough i have fewer options in everything i do.
No one is going to try and "do good" by offering what you argue, unless someone does something to break up the pseudo-monopolies. The free market doesn't exist, because the free market makes sure only the biggest are in charge.
I'm in no way arguing that the government should do everything it can to regulate everything down to the minute detail, because a middle ground does exist.
I think the problem is that you don't understand how anything works, where the government is needed, and where it is not. You have no idea about the governments role in any given market, global trade, basic standards, etc.
That's due to government regulations. Stuff like Obamacare prevents businesses from expanding because it requires that companies with 50 or more employees provide them with healthcare, something small businesses cant afford. Also expensive licences and regulations that require exorbitant cash to start a business and get it running makes it difficult for small businesses.
I hope you do know that it's big corporations that tell government to set up all these regulations to reduce competition. Big corporations love big government. They're siamese twins.
Government create monopolies. Monopolies can't exist in a free market.
It's you that has no idea. Government is only needed to ensure our freedom and liberty. Therefore, just police, army and court.

lol well how the system is supposed to work.
This couldnt happen because consumers, who use and love Netflix, wouldnt allow that to happen to a superior product.
Outrage would be so big that Amazon would have to walk it back, or they would lose to a competitor who has fast netflix.

I'm against net neutrality. Government needs to stop regulating everything.
Hilarious. Absolutely false.
Without net neutrality, a small start up company can enter the business and say "hey, join us because we don't charge you more for connecting to this network, or we don't slow down your Internet speed unlike company X". But with net neutrality, a small company can't distinguish themselves, only through price and they definitely can't compete with big corporations on price, so in other words, government has created a monopoly.
It will almost be worth it to see the MAGA morons cry when Comcast starts charging them out the ass to watch crunchyroll or play overwatch.
The need already exists, and there is none.
False.Sadly right-wing media is not going to be hit the way left-wing media will, since right-wing media is pro-corporation. See, as some evidence, the comments in this thread.
They'll be just fine with their media, and they know it. Hence why they DGAF.
Government don't create monopolies.
What are you talking about???
Once a company acquires enough wealth and enough share of the industry, they
determine supplier pricing, and can underbid their competitors until they run them out of business and buy out their tech/patents, and let's not forget price fixing.
Not all companies start on the same foot in free markets -- so companies are already ahead of the game.
Obamacare is not the problem -- high health costs are the problem.
Insurance companies are extremely profitables these days.
Go listen to CC of each insurance company.
Since obamacare has passed unemployment rates have keet coming down,
and tons of jobs were continuing to be created. Even now tons of jobs continue to be created, despite obamacare still around. We were in a recession when obamacare was
passed and still were able to come out of the recessions.
You are just making up bullshit correlations -- and just make making broad, sweeping generalizations. You are not even looking at the intricacies of how everything works.
I mean, yes. You obviously don't know what's good for you. A lot like how a child doesn't know that eating 50 cookies isn't good for them. Or how a child doesn't know putting their hand on the stove isn't good for them. Or how a child doesn't know eating the shit lobbyists are being paid to feed to them isn't good for them.
I think there might be a pattern emerging here...
Lol. I'm glad you admitted you're a totalitarian.
You're no different from a colonialist. The very same mentality, "these people are stupid, I will regulate them and make their lives better". I'm scared of leftists. Your moral superiority and certainty is too huge for you to even evaluate your ideology for a second.

Give me a real world example, an actual monopoly that was a result of the free market and little or no government regulation.
A good analogy I've heard and really like is capitalism is a river: you can't make it flow backwards (communism), but you need dams, dikes and levees (government regulations) to prevent it from destroying everything in its path when it gets out of control.Capitalism is a weird thing. To succeed in capitalism you need to dominate destroy the competition if you succeed you have a monopoly and can dictate the prices. Nolyw competition comes along and creates a better product but because you have a monopoly you use that to destroy that new competition, and basically killing capitalism.
Capitalism creates monopolies, monopolies kill capitalism. Capitalism is self destructive, thats why it needs regulation from preventing that.
False.
Apple, Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Wall Street, every other big banks and massive corporations are all democrats. Their CEOs are all democrats and make huge contribution to the party for obvious reasons.
The Hollywood, music and sports celebrities are all leftists. Most powerful and rich elites are democrats. Even rothschild are democrats.
