Saw this earlier today. What a great work they did with the patch! I wonder whats the size of the patch though

Another Native 4K game.
almost a complete match for the PC at max settings.

I wouldn't call half the frame rate 'almost a complete match for pc at max' that said the xbox version is definitive simply as it doesn't have anything to do with the windows store

Since we're swinging hardware dicks around here, who runs PC games at only 60fps in 2018? Even my crappy old PC plays this game at 72fps.

(Though not in 4K and max settings. It's not the greatest port, though the game itself is legendary.)

Most impressive. Kudos to the team at Playground Games. A 1080p 60fps/unlocked frame rate option would have been nice to have too though. Hopefully they can look at adding this option into FH4 later this year if it's feasible.

Eitherway, this update just sold me on a copy. I can't wait to dive in; FH1 was one of my fave games of last gen.

Edit: Why didn't DF compare the OG Xbox One to the X with the update? It'd be the more logical choice for a comparison IMO as it'd show off the improvements made.

Awesome work...

GTX 1070 TI cant do 60 fps they say in the video at max settings so really the amount of people who are doing that is very minimal .. you need a 1080 or 1080 ti to go from 30 fps to 60.

Xbox one x .. true 4k almost everything max 4xmsaa

Very cool!

I need to check that. I played this on my PC with a 1070 on Ultra and it was in the 80s except in some parts of the cities. I have a Xbox one X too so I'll download the patch tonight to try it out.

60 fps no drop means ... 60 fps no drop .. not was once 80 fps but other times 50 fps.

Unlocked just in time for the VRR sets from Samsung?

Looks pretty damn good to me, although I would have been surprised to see anything else from this team.

A far more competent X update than the Forza 7 update for me. I do agree with Digital Foundry's earlier comments though that the HDR implementation isn't really what it should be for some reason. It's certainly isn't bad but it doesn't really stand out as anything special either. I'm glad it's there but it is a shame they couldn't do more with it.

I do agree with others who say that it would have been nice to have seen a 60fps option but I do feel that they would have had to change so much of the game to achieve it that it could have ended up feeling like a very different game if they had done it. It;s probably for the best that they didn't do that.

I do this at 70+fps on my 980ti, (overclocked) and Kaby Lake (4.6)... granted I'm using a Gsync monitor so it's unlocked, but never does it ever drop down by more than a frame or two.

Wait, ignore me, I misunderstood. You guys are talking 4k, I'm only running 1440p. Never mind and my apologies! :D

I really don't understand why they never use the Xbox One S in any of these comparisons. The whole video they're talking about how much the X improves over the S and yet they don't show any footage of it.

Including PC in every Xbox conversation is the hotter, “click getting” thing to do...

Kudos to the devs that continue to use the X to its potential...and to MS for crushing it out of the park with the system!

DF have never heard of fps higher than 60fps

This game is very CPU dependent (in the city areas, at least). Even with settings toned down to compensate for the lack of VRAM in my 1060 3GB, the 6700HQ in my old laptop just couldn't keep up. 1080 and i5 6700k and the game plays like a dream at near max and 4k60 on my new desktop.

Not surprised they only targeted 30 for Horizon 3. A locked 30 is far better for fluidity in a game like this than what they could have gone for with an unlocked framerate. Not sure even a perfect 1080p60fps could have been possible, so probably the right call.

Played this a bit earlier today and it looks amazing, one of the more impressive Xbox One X patches(4x resolution with improved graphic settings) it's insane how clean the graphics are at native 4K with 4xMSAA.

Now they can get back to fixing Nordschliefe Hood cam shake in FM7 and restoring the rest of the Rivals mode for every track.

They talk about XBONEX vs XB-ONE-S, where is the S footage, where are the differences highlighted?? Why don't they show the aniso differences amongst other things.....Still, XBONEX Is not running max settings across the board like PC and it's still 30fps, strange that there's no unlocked mode at 1080p in the least. The 60fps PC footage was the most impressive thing in that whole video tbh...

Also, Tom Morgan is yet again surprised that a 1080p 30fps xbox one game is 4k 30fps on the XBONEX, or that a 1080p 60fps game in Forza 7 is 4k 60fps on XBONEX. What is surprising about any of that. The RX 480 runs Horizon at 4k 30fps easily with no settings turned down from max settings and it runs Forza 7 at 4k 60fps just the same....He also mentions that he's never seen a 4k native game that's running with 4xMSAA and deems it impressive, so again, why won't the 4xMSAA that was on XBOX-One carry over?......BTW Tom, there is a racer on these consoles with 4x8 EQAA, POM, lots of alpha, runs at 60fps with HDR at native 4k 60FPS without skipping a beat. Funny, when he made that statement, it's what I've been playing the last few days.

The only thing I'm surprised on is that there isn't a high framerate mode, 1080p/60fps.

Seems crazy to not include a 1080p60 mode. Framerate > image quality in a racing game. Well, any game really, but especially racing games.

Forza Horizon got enhanced for Xbox One X yesterday, along with two of its expansions! So happy :) https://news.microsoft.com/en-gb/20...3-gets-enhanced-xbox-one-x-never-looked-good/

I think, there should also be a better comparison of PC to XBOX-ONE X......DF said, that MB, Shadows and AA is better on PC, which is fair enough, but ultra in this game is not a world away from high, yet, some graphical settings like MB and Shadows does have a tangible GPU footprint.....By better comparison, I mean they should do a RX 580/1060 at 4k max settings vs XBONEX, show locked vs unlocked mode, show frametimes on the locked mode, test stutter, see how well it runs at 4k unlocked with vysync off...and then see how it runs by dumbing down settings to XBONEX levels etc....They should also show how well this game runs with the lowest end CPU they can, pegged with a RX480/580/1060. Test that at 1080p and aim for 60fps...

Go Go Neo Rangers!
What do you mean ? Quantum Break patch was 94 GB. RoTR was 31 GB. Ark was 30 GB. Gears was 26 GB. Halo Wars 2 was 17 GB. Forza 7 was 32 GB. How was this one so small?

Most of those games added new textures. FH3 did not.

It's too bad that in the absence of DF doing a proper comparison with a similar GPu, it's usually hard to find benchmark videos with settings similar to on console. I found one with a Gtx 1060 doing 4k Ultra (including 4x MSAA) for a bit (past 2:15 in video), and that seemed to keep over 30 fps, although did drop a bit once a cutscene kicked in.

I suppose it technically is at higher settings than X though, with shadows, MB, and I think DF said the X lacked FXAA, which can have a bit of performance impact.

Spent all yesterday evening enjoying FH3 on and offline. It is such a nice game to kick back and relax with.

A couple of observations though:

1) When racing along at full speed (usually down a long stretch of road) the game still freezes for a split second now and again. It was jarring before and its no different on the X.
2) Loading times are shorter however the scenery during the loading screen still seems to freeze and stutter. I presume this is caused by the fact that its loading in chunks of data at the same time but thought it was something that wouldn't be apparent on the X.

Overall though the game was always pure class, and now its even better. Also online is so much fun. Wont be touching any other games for a bit, maybe the next will be Doom Enhanced :)

The HDR on this game is messed up for me now it is really dark with super bright highlights on the edge of some buttons in menus. I have tried all the brightness settings in the menu. and even tried changing my TVs settings but it is only this game that is effected.

I noticed the freezes and scenery loading too, I thought it wouldn't be apparent on the X as it did on the One. Could it have something to do with the save file or how much of the world we explored? Or is this something that happens to everyone?
